Thank you for this great video! I've just got all of my parts ordered and hope to assemble soon once they arrive. Hardest thing to find was the relay! 73, K8JLW
I don't remember the brand of the rails, but they are from DX Engineering. I installed them a week after getting the radio and a day later the radio fell out of my truck. The radio was in a backpack and landed directly on the left rail. It hit the ground hard enough to bend the attaching screws. Also made a hole in the backpack. Completely saved the radio, not a single scratch or damage at all (only a small mark on the rail). Highly recommend them if you're taking the radio in the field. The ones I have are stamped steel, not sure if aluminum rails would have saved my radio.
@pmoore4321 Hi, at min 1:35 I see a silver colored box. Is that a DC-DC converter from 12V to 13.8V? How does the part work and does it cause interference on shortwave? I have a similar part and that makes disturbances without end. Do you have a link for that. Thank you and 73 DL1STJ
Yes, it is a 12v to 13.8v converter. These converters are very noisy and not usable unless activated only on transmit. Here is a link to the video about the transmit switching: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nzPSCRZOLeI.html
cool. i purchased a 12vdc japanese coax switch relay and use acc plug to provide dc ground and 12vdc positive. and just hook up when needed and have the common coax lead to switch and the 2 antennas and put what antenna is nc and what is no and its done.
Sounds good. I thought about using two of the relays externally mounted in an enclosure bolted to the radio. With two relays, you could switch not only the RX side, but the TX side also. Would be useful to add external filters, preamps, etc. 73
@@n5yiz In your manual it tells you how to use the internal transistors from the accessory jack to switch things like amplifiers and things. You could use one of them to switch your receive antenna and other things. You will have to drive the relay with a 2N2222 transistor. You can find the info on RU-vid and other places...
