I have a Yeasu FT-60. I bought it to learn before I take my exam I am not licensed yet and I do not TX I know that I shouldn't do that. I have the RT system and I works very well. Then here comes your video. I don't know when I will take the exam but I sure would like to. I don't have the funds get an ICOM 9700 do when I do get licensed know what repeaters look like on this Yaesu. I have heard people through the repeaters here in Virginia from Florida. I slowed the video down around the 12:50 mark and he says when youre done you can save it , export it , and send to radio. but the video shows the save and send greyed out where you cannot click on it. So how do you send to radio?
I wonder what's going to happen if and when we lose the 144_146 and the 23cms bands. to the aeronautical service. if you think this is made up please read the article put out by the RSGB in the UK.
12:50 mark your save , export, and send are not available to you to carry out what you said in the video. I slowed the video down and they are greyed out. And with only 99 mem slots for vhf and 99 for uhf, all those files would not transfer anyway. Im on day 3 of not understanding this software, it does not work.
The 9700 will be my next radio I have a 991A and a 7300, I got the 7300 first and love the layout and controls and then got the 991A and almost instantly hated it, its only saving grace is the lighted buttons that I wish icom did.
I buy every RT Systems software for every radio I buy... generally. (id-51, id-5100, id-880h, th-d74, ic-7300 and ic-9700.) But I am becoming unsatisfied with my latest purchase... the ic-9700 from rt systems. Why in the world......????? can't they program a specific power setting for a stored memory channel? What in the world? Looking forward for an update.
I've had a 9700 since last fall. Looking for instruction on doing RTTY. It's barely mentioned n the manual. I can hear digital activity, I guess it's RTTY, around 147.555. But all the display shows is alphabet soup. Just strings of random characters. Thanks Dave W9DLP
I am trying to set up my IC9700 and am smashing my head off the wall in frustration. I cannot find a simple, step by step guide any where that explains exactly what to do. I have registered my callsign for DSTAR with ICOM UK and have downloaded the UK repeaters file and copied it to my SD card. Now that card is in the radio, how do I import the repeaters list to it?Once that's done, how do I then access D-Star? And am I supposed to be using a horizontal or vertical polarised antenna for this? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. John M7JHA
HA! I can't remember numbers for SQUAT! A Traumatic Brain Injury gave me major short term memory problems, so all my numbers are linked to my google account. Surprised I was able to even pass my license testing, but it took me two months of cramming.
Thank you for the video… I love my ICOM 9700… Great radio. However, I find that RT Systems leaves a LOT to be desired. I bought their software for four different radios and have had problems with their software for the 9100, 7100 and now the 9700. (The one for the D74 was without issues.) The problems vary but the issue I had with the 9700 software was that it actually did not even work. I submitted the issues to technical support and they agreed that I had spotted some catastrophic errors. They eventually fixed the issues - but my issue is that they rushed a product to market without even alpha testing the software - depending upon the users to do their testing for them after they paid money for it. I keep buying their software for the functionality since there is nothing else close - but I cringe every time I have to give them wallet share. Again, great video as always! 73 de Robert K3RRR

Every now and then, a real super radio comes out like the Yaesu FT - 857 and now the Icom IC-9700. I have the 857 in my Silverado, but the 9700 will have to wait a while as I save up for it - can't wait though! I believe that in five or more years from now, both radios will still be "modern," especially the 9700 which is futuristic today. Thanks for the video and 73!
Hi Eric, that was a great video. Would you consider a tutorial on attaching a gps to the IC-9700? I cannot get mine to work regardless of what I try. I've never seen the gps icon. I'm still not convinced the radio has a defect, and it's probably something that I'm doing wrong. Thanks Mike K8MB
