Absolutely brilliant results from following this video. The explanation is precise and easy to follow. i could not believe the amount of truly compacted dust in the blades. Cannot recommend highly enough.
To reduce noise by dampening the vibration. Sandwich rubber washers between the 2 bolts holding the motor and the plastic casing together found at the back of the motor. Bolt size is M4 but I use M3 neoprene washers. 3.3mm ID 7mm OD. Thanks for the great tutorial.
After removing the cover I found my version (wall mounted) has the fan blades on the outside of the motor so I needed to disconnect the power supply and take the whole unit of the wall to access them. This did mean I could clean out the complete air pathway. The upholstery brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner was really useful for this.
Mines in the kitchen. So it didn't need dusting out! It needed all the greasy gunge scrubbed out !! But not just the fan blades, but inside the moving plastic blade mechanism. I would have liked instructions on how to take this apart as well for cleaning. I've not been able to do this properly for fear of not being able reassemble it again !!
My Icon Airflow fan in my bathroom is connected to my two ceiling mounted LED lights. One of my ceiling lights went out, so I tried removing the faulty LED light and I removed the other LED light that was working to put in its place to make sure it was a faulty LED light and not an electrical problem. When I did that Icon fan came on and I can’t switch it off. I tried putting the LED lights back as they were but both lights won’t come on and the fan is still on. Perhaps the LED light isn’t plugged in enough, into its socket but the LED light is flush with my ceiling, so it looks like its in place.
Will the fan blades of all models of this fan come away as easily? Actually took the fan out of the ceiling to clean the baldes but didnt realise the blades will come away from the motor, mine looks like a solid unit!
Any ideas where to get a replacement white actuator clip? Mine fell apart/snapped when I took it out. Google just shows you timing modules & covers when you search
I have the same fan in my new build house. I don’t think the shutters have ever closed fully since I moved in. They’re now permanently open and won’t even slightly close like they used to and i think that it may now be causing a bit of a smell. Any ideas?
I had exactly the same problem. I removed the cover as shown after isolating the power and there are two Philips screws, which when removed allow you to disassemble the cover. My opening blades were stuck with a build up of dirt. I washed them off in hot soapy water, put it back together and it is working normally again. I did initially have a problem twisting the cover off, it was stuck with gunge, a gentle thump upwards loosened it.

Unfortunately the inner white plastic cover appears to be now glued in place on the Icon 60, although the solenoid now doesn't appear to need removed before you find this out. Means taking the whole installation apart which makes me think of just binning it and putting an inline system in......
@@qbranchrg I also have the model with plastic cowling partially glued in. The actuator tab thing is held in by a screw and I thinking this may be an earlier model. Has had very little use in a holiday house. Trouble with mine is the rotor drifts down on the shaft and hits the cowling. I'm attempting a fix using a plastics-specific 2-part superglue if I can get to the spindle and rotor bushing. Trying to cut through the 'welded' edge of the cowling to access the rotor. Will report progress in due course.
Further to above, I cut/melted through the glued part of the cowling with a hot serrated knife made from a ground hacksaw blade. This enabled me to withdraw the rotor. The ~6 mm diameter motor shaft is quite smooth, with one flat to provide torque to the rotor. The inner part of plastic rotor boss is held in place by a thin steel crimp which is obviously not up to the job; a fatal flaw of this fan design. After grinding multiple small angular grooves on the motor shaft, the rotor was re-attached with a 2-part plastics-specific superglue. I attached the cowling with tabs of 'primate' tape and reinstalled the fan. It seems to be holding up ok. Time will tell. Multiple reports by others of the motors coming loose may just be fan drifting down and striking the cowling. The moulded motor mounts on mine appeared quite substantial.
These are very expensive and rubbish. Have fitted three over the last few years and unfortunately cleaning them does not make them less noisy. Some of those fitted have had parts missing, eg, one has a screw holding the small actuator in place, others don't. One does not have the internal white shroud shown in this video needing removal before the impeller can be reached. Servicing these units should also refer to the need to remove the unit completely in order to check the security of the two bolts holding the fan motor in place. I've found that these can work loose and need tightening otherwise the motor and impeller will not run smoothly, which they never do anyway. The adjuster on the timing module is a further weak point, they break off very easily. You can get a much better quality fan unit for the half the price of these.
