There are so many ways to indulge in car culture. Some people are about amassing a collection. Others tuck into the details of matching numbers and period correctness. Some restore, some tune. Different strokes for different folks and all avenues are correct. At Classic Car Club, we don’t get too bothered about the provenance or rarity. We’re in it for the experience. Our cars are a gateway to an adventure, a road trip or a weekend that would have been ordinary without the accompaniment of a spectacular car. Our cars shape the arc of our story. This is why we were truly honored to have Bob Lutz share his stories and insights with us for an evening. Bob is the man behind so many cars that we love and that have played a chapter in the stories we write. Without him, our automotive epochs would be short stories.
Thank you Bob.

I was an age 24 engineer at Chrysler in 1988 when I wrote a personal letter to Bob Lutz begging him to figure out a way to let us build the Viper. He wrote me back! What a true and honest leader and car guy he was for us, and all the other companies he worked for. I went on to be the Chief Engineer of the last Dodge Viper, the 'Gen 5', 2013-2017. Bob and I both had a lot of fun!

When they first came out, I wasn't a tremendous fan. Seeing them on Friday at CCC, the first generation models, gosh. they are so cool.

Bob said that the Viper was the first American car that had 400HP, Any car guy know that’s not true. In the late 60’s many cars came from the factory with 400 plus , ex. Chevys 427 w/435HP.

Back in the '60 years, car companies were economical with the truth.

I grew up i Michigan so a love for General Motors began at birth, but boy do they make some monumental screwups. Take the EV-1 for example, if GM would have stuck it out with that program they would they be the Tesla's of today and dominate EV production, technology, and profitability. So not only did they axe the program, but they lost 1.5 billion on a car that never came close to going into production, and then they destroyed all but a couple of the test vehicles they did make. Talk about stupid.
