I don't know if this one counts, but Mary Kelly, the fifth and final murder victim of Jack the Ripper. What he did takes hours with perfect surgical tools under bright lights with a team of surgeons and great skill, and he did it in 15 f***ing minutes with practically no light.And then there's the missing kidney and the letter. It's more of an iconic murder, but it might be one worth looking at as an iconic corpse.

Wasn't the kidney that was sent to the police found out to be from some animal? Of course they doesn't take away from his near impossible surgical skills but I thought it was worth questioning. I am slightly disappointed that this iconic Iconic Corpse episode did not go into the BONKERS details of Lady Dai's official autopsy by the Chinese government in 1972. They had a difficult time finding anyone willing to risk it, because if anything went wrong during the autopsy and she was damaged, it was generally understood to be career-ending at best and life-ending at worst. A younger, junior scientist in the pathology and teaching department eventually was like "fuck it, hold my beer" but, you know, respectfully and in Hunan Chinese. The Absolute History RU-vid channel has a pretty good video on it but I would have loved to watch the story told with the wit (and sass)(and shade)(and judgmental eyebrows) that I love from Caitlin. 🤣

I don’t care so much that they moved her because ?? It’s an amazing discovery and we learned a lot from her body- especially about the customs and burial rituals of people in that region at the time of her death, as well as biological ones regarding the condition of her remains. I’d like it if her body could be returned eventually when they’re done examining it and have the burial chamber ‘refurbished’ and put back the way it was when it was discovered, but that probably won’t happen.

Question: how long do you have to be put in a tomb before grave robbing becomes archeology?
@aimeeinkling
@aimeeinkling 6 лет назад
The answer is 50 years. "Historic archaeological sites are defined in the same way as prehistoric sites. They need to be comprised of ten or more artifacts likely to have been generated by a patterned cultural activity within a surface area reasonable to that activity, or a feature, that is older than 50 years for projects where federal laws apply or older than 75 years where state or local laws apply."

@Arualiaa
@Arualiaa 6 лет назад
The answer from an actual archaeologist: it’s ALWAYS grave robbing unless you’re qualified and have permission from the authorities. Once that is out of the way, it’s either archaeology or a crime investigation. It can also be both: I’ve been in excavations for war crime victims, and once the archaeology is done, the police is called so they can lift the body and do their own thing.

Valérie Bélair actually digested seeds are mostly viable. It's how most seeds are planted in nature. However the fact that they r two thousand years old concerns me more as u may have heard they were "moist". Lol

Yeah, but like, it's been sitting in dead people juice for over 2000 years old. Imagine it actually grew and produced fruit :s And people actually ate it? *shudders* Like I know that the soil we grow food in now also has who-knows-how-many decomposed beings in it but just the fact that they were taken out of a corpse is just..ugh.. e_e;;

i found a dead guy floating in the river, in 2007 i was walking down the railroad tracks taking a short cut and saw a big white rock that wasn't there the day before on my way to work, the closer i got the more i could see, then i spotted the big brown levi's jeans tag pulled out my phone called my boss and told him i was gonna be a little late then i called the police told them what i found, funny thing is the channel 8 helicopter got there first from 30 miles away and the cops had a motorboat and got there maybe 5 minutes after the news, they wanted to know what i was doing down there i said i walk to work this way daily, the guy was floating face down with a black and grey flannel shirt up over his head and it looked like all the flesh on his back was picked away by crabs or something. weird i dreamed about it a few times after that day and i still remember it like it was yesterday

I don't think she's very "iconic" - just another corpse. As far as I know, she was embalmed in the traditional way, and will decay in the standard fashion. Nothing special or particularly interesting about it.

Maybe not an “iconic corpse”, but an iconic death. TONS of things happened within England 8 in the seven days following her death. Tons of shit I️ really think Caitlin could spin in so many ways. From the cultural mourning, the intensity of it, to the protocol and the rules that were broken in those seven days.

+criticalhard - Not at all; she lingered for several days in the hospital before finally dying. Her body was beat up some, but the main damage was head trauma. It would have been perfectly possible to do an open casket if the family wanted (I don't recall for sure but I think they didn't want to).

Five years on and I would still love a video dedicated to the funeral of Lady Di/Princess Diana tbh. I have no doubt Caitlin would be immensely respectful, compassionate, and empathetic about it like she is with her other mini death documentaries, and after getting a glimpse of what Prince Philip's and Queen Elizabeth's funerals would entail, I'm curious to know more about what they did for Diana. I was only 10 when she died (I still remember clear as day the night I learned she had passed - My family were driving home from a vacation we had just gone on to Mammoth Mountain in California, it was late at night and we had the radio on when a broadcast suddenly interrupted the music to announce that Princess Di had passed in a car crash) so I only have vague fragments of memory of what had happened in the time leading up to her funeral and memorial service.
