Love it. I lived in a luxury German campervan for 2.5 years and love the idea of movable homes. I actually think the price is very reasonable considering the design and features that have gone into this home.
House is not just a "box". It`s a complicated structure. Try building simple garden shed - that will not be as easy as it seems, but it will teach you a lot of things, before starting to build a house to actually spend your whole life in. Compromises in design and price is also a hard one. It`s usually hard to achieve both. But I would advise cordwood or strawbale for DIY house as cheap and atractive alternative. Also depending where you live you have to stick to building codes.
Reinis Miks I got lucky with the building codes, and bought land in an area that is very lenient. I wanted to build a container home, however the more research I do, the more I found out that it is much more expensive to build.
Wendy Stedman Yeah, and there are always extra costs you can`t predict. Try to stick with natural materials - containers ain`t gona breathe. Or check out some really cool double deckers transformed into house - not a permanent solution probably, but still an option if you are into that living style.
I can just see these houses being moved from city to city with their owners. This stuff has been around sine the 50s and has never taken off with the public.
@alternativepnk What we're talking about, in toilet terms, is the very latest in front-wall, fresh-air orifices, combined with a wide-capacity gutter installation below.
I collect retro video games, I have a Sega Genesis, a Super Nintendo, Atari 2600, N64, and a PS3. I collect because I want to own the systems. Nobody as a child said "mommy, mommy! I want to rent this game for Christmas!!". I like what I collect because it's my own personal collection, which I can share with others as I please. I collect because of the thrill of finding something rare. If it rented my classic games it wouldn't be the same.
One winter morning, don't walk down the icy stairs. Because the handrail was never installed yet, for the reason of " less is more" ! George Wu, AIA 2012-4-5
The architects always create housing with magnificent architectures, but at the level feature, it is the absolute vacuum! No place of arrangement, or then little, just of which to tidy up 1 pullover, 2 shirts and 1 pants, in cooking(in the kitchen), a pan, 1 plate, and two glasses! Of pat in the eye, nothing more!
The mobile home is not a modern concept and there are many modern designs. I'm not surprised he has only sold three of them. Calling a mobile home by a different name does not create a new market. However, it is still cool looking.
And how does it move?? Is there a lorry wide enough to carry it? Can it circulate on the road with such dimensions??? As far as I know the maximum wide to circulate is 2,60 mts... and it seems to be much wider...
I have often wondered why affordable housing could not be obtained by using old army barracks style systems. they were certanly big enough to house at least 20 men at one time, they could be air conditioned and heated , up dated with the times and think of the affordablity, entire low income housing, they could include front porch, a carport, and could painted any color to suit the home owners style.
Pat Boone's hair plugs and honey blonde dye job looking so natural, no? I've never trusted that "Safe Step" tub he's selling. The seal on that little swinging door thingy has got leak big time at some point ...
glad I'm from Zimbabwe and land is so cheap, I can get 1000 square metres for US$5000 in middle density, US$10000 in low density suburbs, US$500 in rural areas. On top of it we do not have to pay mortgage and the property will remain in my name and does not belong to the government. On top of that my children will be entitled to the property even if I die. Water and electricity rates will be my only expenses averaging US$500.
First time i hear (read) about him. But i guess being the billions of human beings, its impossible for 2 people to thing the exact same thing, even if its like 50 years apart
"Natural", making a box have curved corners does not constitute "natural" or "organic" in any vernacular that I am aware of. I don't see any greater appeal with this design than using a ship cargo box and at least the second mentioned is in general recycled.
Hi hi, Have you looked at "Crosperia Shipping Container Home Plans" (search this term on google) ? I've heard it is an awesome guide on building shipping container home.
In the Western world homes must be reduced to no more than $50,000 for approximately 1100 square feet. They must also generate their own power and collect and recycle their own water. They must be very low maintenance, simple to repair or modify, embody the passive haus standard, and have a life expectancy of no less than 100 years. If you cannot achieve this with your design you need to modify it.
No Doubt when you see the price tag you will look elsewhere!! More than 100,000 US dollars now. It would be cheaper to build your own with a similar design. It is a Neat Idea though not cost effective.
Wouldn't you people rather rent all the crap in your house than to continue to collect more and more? Ya' know! Like the library works. You borrow, then return when you are sick of it. Then others can use it. If this sounds great, check out THE VENUS PROJECT (By Jacque Fresco)
I hate things that are designed that number 1, look bad, number 2, no one can afford. It is very impracticable, not what we need from these smart minds.
You call something of that size "mobile"? Really? And you think a young professional would go into all the trouble of dismantling it, transporting it somehow, and installing at the new location?
Maybe they aren't schizophrenic enough? 99.999% of 'designers' are mere stylists, when they really need to be engineers, psychologists *and* economists as well : )))
People--especially fancy architects--seem to hear the phrase "less is more", and equate that to "smaller yet more expensive". It defeats the purpose of living smaller and simpler when I can buy a standard stick-built house for less than that but yet is bigger.... Maybe when these pretentious architects create something more affordable, then perhaps people will buy.
