AMAZING interview! Super interesting and never boring! Very good job of both, Frederik who was able to ask good questions and never trivial, and Paul who always answered with many arguments and examples. Personally one of my favorite photobooks is "Minutes to midnight" by Trent Parke, a truly poetic masterpiece in my opinion.

What a nice introduction into this project (which i didn't knew before). Thank you Frederik :) I instantly ordered Annie Leibovitz's "At Work". One of my favorite photo books of the last years where Darcy Padilla "Family Love" (the book is only available in french, but it is one of the most impressive long-term projects i have ever seen) and the "Days with my Father" from Philip Toledano, telling an intimate story of the last days of Philip and his father. Also in conjunction with Philips Book, i can recommend "Life before Death" of Walter Schels, which inspired me to my own photo(book) work where i accompany dying people in a hospice. P.S. I really like your channel for being down to earth, positive and always inspiring.

The focus is off putting but that aside this is a fantastic video, watched the whole thing which is very rare for me on RU-vid :) oh, and I love and collect photobooks, have so many. My favs are Beneath the Roses by Gregory Crewdson, 20 by Marc Lagrange and A Shadow Falls by Nick Brandt. All different and all superb in their field with stunning images. Can spend hours looking through them :)

It’s always amused me that the ‘Decisive Moment’ notion was not a Cartier-Bresson, notion and was imply the title thought up by the editor who brought out the English language edition of his book ‘Images à la Sauvette’. It’s a bit like Lost in Translation, or perhaps more accurately ‘Found’ kin translation, as this phrase defined how many see Cartier-Bresson. Images à la Sauvette is more a notion of stealing the picture… “Vendeurs à la Sauvette” are illegal street hawkers, who run off when the police show up… So you get a notion of illicit or candid pictures. Pictures taken without the knowledge or consent of the subject. I can understand why Cartier-Bresson may not have liked the title given to his book, as it was not at all how he had seen his work. His was more fly on the wall documentary pictures, rather than capturing a specific moment that defined the image. I guess one does not necessarily exclude the other..

You're assuming that most "photographers" are curious like yourself. I have my library of books on photography and art as well as countless folders of photos I download, almost daily. But my experience as a photographer and instructor is that the "average" person who claims to be passionate about photography couldn't name five photographers that they admire. That's like saying I love impressionism but have no idea Degas or Renoir is that example can be expanded to sports, music greats. physis, inventors... If you're not interested enough to make the EFFORT to learn more about your "passion" then it's not your passion. Meanwhile, enjoy taking pictures. In all likelihood, your photos at best might be appealing on a pop-culture, Instagram level.... but that's all you probably wanted anyway... and that's fine.
