Thanks, Edmond, for reviewing this Barbie doll. I especially appreciate your "answering" the new face sculpt matter; it's annoying that Mattel should claim the face sculpt as new, original. The doll is lovely. I don't care for baby hairs, but if they are done, they should resemble hair - as another commenter mentions. The dress looks dark navy to me.
The website's a liar. Still, I like this doll. It's nice to see them style textured hair for once. I don't know that I'd call it baby hair in front. It's more of a cheap attempt to give her a proper hairline. It's fine from a distance but a little weird up close.
I agree with you. After filming the video, a non collector friend hit me up about this doll and said "I like her, but that hairline..." lol. So I went looking at more photos of Ida B Wells and I think they could have easily just given her a rooted widow's peak and not have done any painting at all. Seems like that would have been better IMO. Not sure why they decided to go with paint instead of a few more plugs of hair.
Thank you for a great review of one of Mattel's Barbie Signature Inspiring Women. I love Alysa's 12 Oaks dress, and I do think Alysa looks cute wearing it!
This was a great review, I’m not a big fan of the printed hair on the front every thing else is spot on. She would make a great grandmother doll or something like that. 🥰❤️
I'm not much of a complainer ... but indulge me ... I generally like the baby hair when it looks like hair! My goodness Mattel painted muck on her head! Mattel needs to ROOT the baby hairs going forward on collector dolls. Otherwise I like her!
I agree with you. I think a few more hairplugs for a widow's peak would have been perfect for this doll. I don't mind the occasional "baby hair" but someone called it a beard on her forehead, lolololol, and I must say, i kinda see it lolol
That doll is a hot mess. That hair line, and hair is horrible. That blob of baby hairs looks like they literally took a marker, and ugh. Add to that they lied about the body, no, no, no.
I am so glad that I didn't press that arm any further, I would have broken it. I learned a huge lesson from this doll. Don't believe what you read. You have to see for yourself these days.
A non collector friend looked at her and shook her head and said to me, "They were wrong for giving her that hairline...." LOLOLOLOL. Yes, a widow's peak would have solved this easily instead of paining on hair.
