The Humble Pie version is actually a completely different song both musically and lyrically. They just decided to credit Ida Cox and give it the same title. Not sure why really, great song though.
Oh take me back....would love a woman to come into my parlor and sing like this! We would sit around while I serve cocktails......no TV or cell phones !
I should add that Jesse and Ida were married at one time, though I'm not sure they were still married when they made this movie short :P He accompanies her on many of her recordings in the 1920's.
Great viid but not what i expected. Tune's title goes back to '71 and Humble Pie's "Rockin' The Fillmore" for me. Here, i see where EC got "OutSide Woman Blues" for Disraeli Gears. Still great history and Ida was beautiful in every way.
This is interesting. Ida is definable singing what Cream did as "Outside Woman Blues". Humble Pie's "Four day creep" is credited to "Ida Cox"?? ..I'm confused
The Carnegie Hall Performance (Spirituals to Swing)-1938, was far superior. Her pianist, Jesse Crump, who I think is playing on this clip, was brilliant, but also sounds somewhat cramped here. This is also an abridged version of this song.
Yes... and playing some terrific piano too! [though Ida is certainly no slouch... she's not a theatrical belter but an honest singer, a real straight-shooter, solid-sender.] Jesse Crump made some excellent piano solo recordings which should be put on RU-vid sometime!
Part of this version has been edited out unfortunately... see this version (apparently from a movie). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z5sEaqgdWQ0.html "I may be old, and up in years, but I can still climb a hill without shifting my gears. And I'm a big fat mama, got some meat shaking on my bones. And every time I shake, some skinny gal loses her home."
The title Four DayCreep sounds strange; remember having seen it spelt 'Fore Day Creep (a Claire Austin recording with Kid Ory and Don Ewell). Jørgen Møller CPH DK
