As a Trauma RN x 15 years…I believe she saw a heck of a lot more than even she may know. I think her brain seized up and she became “catatonic”, and it was a time unknown before she fully comprehended what happened. I have seen victims of severe fright and trauma behave in so many different ways that you can’t use predictive values. Seriously can’t comprehend how you think in such actions.

Naw. I disagree. How did he get in the house. Seems like roommate set them up for some unknown reason. People use knifes for vendetta like oj Simpson. Some type of dispute.

From my personal experience, extreme fear /shock can make a person ‘like catatonic’, immobilized, brain-confounded or even shut down. People on talk radio and social media, even opinion reporters on tv questioned as to why she didn’t call police immediately- which infuriated me as people just don’t understand ,as they fortunately have not been through domestic violence, stranger violence/stalking/kidnapping...every person might respond differently- go into denial and solitude,get major panic attack and be in bathroom or cover up in bed , hide in closet, seek safety in bed and brain puts you to sleep to calm the trauma. This case will always be in my mind from my past situation-it was a trigger for my brain of things I felt I had worked through- so much prayers for the survivor who saw the man, for all the parents,family and friends ; more prayers to ask for strength, discernment, awareness, composure, calm.

Hubby and I had to share a house with co-workers for a 3 month period for a contract that we had to oversee in a town with limited housing. They were lovely people and our friends. Fridays they used to go to the bar and bring people they met back to the house and barbecue 11pm at night and visit. They would not be loud but there's nothing like opening the door to go to the kitchen and come face to face with a complete stranger in the passage. That made me go back in our room and lock the door. I would never have imagined that my friends would be murdered because normal people don't think something like that could ever happen because the average person is not evil and don't go to those thoughts immediately. You get a fright and think tommorow I will ask that they don't bring strangers home and then you go to sleep behind a locked door.

@ECBH understandably so but covid masks has made that an everyday occurrence to see people in masks and if I read it correctly it states that the mask covered his mouthand nose, so I'm waiting to hear if it was a balaclava type mask or covid type mask. We only came off mandated mask wearing in September 2022 in Botswana, and still some people feel comfortable to still wear masks.

@Barry Suss No its just a very small farming community that still greets and meets everybody like they are friends. In south africa it is how it used to be and no it was husband and wife that went out. I know I'm a city girl and inherently more aware of the stranger danger, but country folks (which they were) see everyone as a new friend and believe in old fashioned hospitality. But I digress, all I want to say is that people are different and they react and act different and we should keep that in mind when hearing the prob cause affidavit which only contains the bare necessary points, and all the witness testimonies and explanations will still come out in the trial. we can at best speculate and draw from our own experiences to try and understand but we still have not walked a mile in anyone shoes so it is at best speculation.

If not for her, no one would be any the wiser there was someone she didn't know in the home and was able to give a description that it was a man and what he looked like. Why don't any of these people in the media come to her defense & talk about the invaluable information she was able to provide as opposed to wasting their time speculating away about her It's irresponsible and is what is contributing to those who want to find fault w/her.

I think it is very unfair and inaccurate to say that DM “made eye contact” that’s not what it says. It says she saw someone walking towards her and froze. Doesn’t say if she shut the door before he got closer. Doesn’t say he saw her. Doesn’t say how wide open her door was. Doesn’t say if she was inside her room just putting her head out. So everyone asking why he didn’t hurt her.. it’s very possible he didn’t see her. Also, seeing a man in my house is going to scare me. But then I’m going to talk myself down. He’s wearing all black, cool lots of people do. He’s got a mask covering the lower half of his face. Okay? That’s fairly common since the last few years cause he basically has a c-vid mask on. He left out of a door. He didn’t come back for her. From this document it doesn’t say what else she heard or saw. It’s very possible she talked herself out of being terrified and went back to sleep. Perfectly rational thing so people claiming anything about this poor traumatized girl need to leave it til more information is released.

@amandaturner7682
@amandaturner7682 Год назад
@@rationalskeptic1 for me personally? No. Have you never been terrified of something before? Or had severe anxiety over something? In this case, IF any of this were even true about her thought process at the time. This is just my personal theory and nothing I know for fact. But part of my personal logic would be not only explaining away his appearance but also justify who and why he was there. I’d tell myself he was with one of my roommates, maybe I didn’t hear what I thought I heard. Or maybe this guy was with one of your roommates and they got in a fight causing the girl to cry. (remember DM was asleep and I don’t think she knew who came back when or with who. Totally normal for a college house like this. Also, there were parties at this house with none of the people who lived there even being present) I didn’t always know who my roommates had in their personal room with them. And if I looked out in the hall in the middle of the night, in the dark, and saw a figure I would have frozen also which is my personal stress response. But once the person left and the adrenaline left I’d explain to myself that he was coming out of my roommates bedroom and walking, not running, to an exterior door. Is that really that odd of an occurrence when you think about the few facts we do know at this time? Again, it’s all just my personal theory and something I think could explain the time difference.
@amandaturner7682
@amandaturner7682 Год назад
@@rationalskeptic1 sorry for all my rambling. But also to point out, we all know what this guy did. And yah if you look at the situation with what we know he did, it’s explained as a violent murderer walking toward you. That’s terrifying and logically brings up the question of why wouldn’t you call 911. We critique her actions with knowledge that she did not have at the time this happened. She didn’t know it was a killer coming at her. It was just a college aged guy in her house. So, I think the initial shock is going to cause a second of panic and initiate your fight flight or freeze response. Which that shock explains her initial fear that explains her locking herself in her room. But panic does not stay with us. Fight flight or freeze is a short instinctual response and can not be sustained by the human body or mind. This was a small college town. They hadn’t had a murder in this county in multiple years. They probably didn’t even have much crime. So I just don’t think that’s where your mind initially goes if you have no real reason to believe that it’s a murderer in your house. You believe you are safe because the town is safe, you live with a bunch of people, there is a dog in the house. It would not have stopped barking if there was an intruder, at least that’s kind of a logical thought even if it isn’t true. Also, when you are young and in college you think you are invisible. Personal safety or the safety of other people is not always at the forefront of your mind. I put myself in multiple scenarios that could have turned out horrifically for me when I was in college. And had something happen it would have been very easy for people to think “why did she decide to do that? That’s obviously not a smart idea. I would have never put myself in a position like that.” Cause it is easy to look at a situation in hindsight and point out what people should have or shouldn’t have done.

How was Bryan able to kill 2 people sleeping next to each other? ESPECIALLY athletic people like xana and Ethan? You're telling me there was no fight or altercation that occurred between Ethan and Bryan? And roommate D didn't hear any of this commotion? I just have sooooooo many questions. Like how did he not leave a blood trail behind? After brutally murdering FOUR people with ONE KNIFE, how was he not absolutely COVERED in blood? How did his skinny body have the stamina and strength to viciously murder 4 people with that 1 knife? It's been said by people very knowledgeable about knives that once a knife is bluntly forced into skin, blood, bone, cartilage etc, it gets blunt at the tip. So meaning each murder had to be done harder than the one before it because of how much "work" the knife had to do on each person. How was he so confident that the back sliding door would be unlocked? What were his plans had that door been locked? These were all young, beautiful, and active young adults in their prime. Morals aside, I just can't wrap my head around how he was able to do this?

To me, thats not in anyway a normal interaction with someone a person thinks is a casual friend or frat boy lol. People react to horrifying situations differently. While I find it very odd that she waited 8 hours to call police, it doesnt mean she thought the situation wasnt a serious one. I honestly feel awful for her, because she has to live with her decision for the rest of her life, not knowing if one or more of the victims may have been saved. He may have been studying criminology etc. (although it mentioned he was actually more interested in IT forensics based on his application to work for the local police in that capacity), but he most likely had never committed a crime before and this was his first attempt. It seems that he made a lot of mistakes that would be due to his "inexperience". Studying crime and killers, isn't the same as actually being one.... he was arrogantly over-confident thankfully. That makes perfect sense. Once she knew the end result she realized the significance of everything, but it makes perfect sense that in the moment her brain dismissed most of the sounds as relatively normal for the craziness that regularly went on in that house. Plus, if she was also drunk, which considering it was the weekend and the people in the house clearly regularly included a certain amount of drinking as part of their normal weekend routine, it's also possible there's a part of her that wondered if she was hallucinating, heard something later that made her think she could explain everything that calmed her down again, or even that she fell asleep immediately and even completely forgot what had happened the night before until she found out what had happened and the memory suddenly came back to her. As others have mentioned, on top of being potentially drunk or high and living in a party house that regularly had strangers coming in and out, it's also possible she was experiencing a certain level of trauma, and the brain can do some incredibly strange things in trauma that it would never do logically. I strongly suspect part of the reason a single killer was able to overpower a total of 4 people was because they were all drunk and mostly asleep at the beginning of the attack as well. That may have been part of his planning. Perhaps something they posted online combined with his previous surveillance told him they were drunk and asleep and were thus vulnerable even though from a pure numbers analysis he was certainly outnumbered. Whatever happened, I'm sure the explanation is legit. There's no way the two roommates who lived were in on this. I can't imagine the horror of waking up to find 4 of your 5 roommates have been murdered in the night. On one hand, you have to mourn the loss of your roommates. On the other hand, I bet you would also be constantly replaying the scene over and over in your head and would find it difficult to sleep for a very long time wondering why you survived and if the killer plans to come back and finish what he started. Then on top of that you have everyone online questioning your actions even though they are only getting part of it because the police are keeping your whole story quiet to make sure they don't compromise the investigation or trial, and some of those people are willing to dox you and even stalk you and your families. Just because a written explanation of an event seems confusing, it doesn't automatically follow that the explanation isn't completely true. Blood often isn't as obvious as people expect it to be. The sound of someone screaming or crying in a party house isn't that suspicious. In hindsight, it sounds incredibly suspicious, but these people weren't experiencing the live events with the benefit of hindsight. And a combination of trauma and potential drinking can explain all of the unusual questions that everyone seems to have in this case.

These college kids were social and may have had visitors regularly after hours. At that young age, the roomie may not be suspicious enough to expect real danger let alone murder. With so many in house, there may have been disruptions regularly enough to cause her to assume it was just another roommate visitor or ruckus. They also would not want to awaken fellow roomies who had been up late. This could be the reason for the late morning 911 call. These survivors already have guilt. Let’s not add to it until there is a proven reason. After all, we all have had spidey senses we’ve ignored. At a young age, due to innocence, ignoring those is even more common.

The amount of sadness I feel about these murders is almost unbearable. These kids had so much left of their lives to live, they were just doing their thing like typical twenty-somethings do. To be viciously taken away from everything they've worked for and from anyone who's ever loved them is just cruel. People noticed that Kohberger seemed to be trying to keep his hands hidden when he was pulled over by 2 cops in Indiana. I noticed on one of the incidences when the cop handed him his driver's license back he reached to get them with his LEFT hand when his right hand would have been closer and easier to use. Even if he is left handed it still seems to me he would have reached to get them with the right hand.

Interesting point. I also would like to know more about what he threw out in the neighbors trash bin, as police say they saw under surveillance. Unless it was an honest mistake, which seems unlikely, whatever he was throwing out that night had to be something he was worried about. Hes not going to that trouble if its a garbage bag full of potato peels and empty egg shells. Although as arrogant as this guy seems to be, maybe he was just messing with police if he knew they were watching him. Idk. Im pretty sure it wasnt the knife, because that would have probably been released in the affidavit, or leaked. What I do think is a possibility, and im totally speculating here, is maybe a pair of shoes with the diamond on the bottom was found, that matches a footprint at the crime scene. Now, maybe they would have released that info as well, but he seemed to not want police looking at his trash for some reason. I guess we will see.

I think the boyfriend on the 2nd floor probably said “I’m going to help you” after hearing one of the girls crying. He was probably attacked immediately after saying that. The attacker may not have gone after the couple at all! Maybe they tried to help the two girls upstairs and that’s why they died? Dm probably left alone for many reasons. She wasn’t threatening the attacker, he may not have seen her, may have been in some psych state etc. sounds like he went to the top floor purposefully. The couple in the second floor tried to intervene and that’s why they were brought in to it! It’s a shame the cops weren’t called sooner because they could have lived, but who’s to say what was happening in the mind of DM? She may have went in to shock, or thought she dreamt it all

They keep asking why she didnt call the cops. Look at it from her perspective. She has 5 roommates and lives in a party house. People come and go at all hours. People often drink there and its probably not uncommon to hear crying, dogs playing, people saying "someones here" and "its ok im going to help you" at 4 a.m. If DM was also drunk and had been asleep she could have just thought some drama was happening, never put the pieces together and never saw E and X until noon. Perhaps from her perspective at the time she just heard some noises saw a random person in her house with a mask on and got creeped out a bit so she locked her door and went back to bed. If people come and go at super early hours it wouldnt always be cause for alarm to see a random person, but kinda creepy to see them in the dark with a mask on. In the haze of waking up from a dead (or drunken) sleep and no other context i can absolutely see her just thinking its like any other night with random party noises and people they dont know at the house. When you take away the entire context we have and view them as unrelated to eachother it would be a bit much to just jump to the conclusion that a brutal mass murder just happened.

In my early 20’s I woke up to my boyfriend yelling “get out” I had just fallen asleep but he was still awake & eyes adjusted to the dark. He heard a creak & then saw a gloved hand reach around my bedroom door frame & a head peering in…then he yelled @ the intruder “get out” and for me to call 911. I was in shock d/t seeing a gloved hand on my door frame, having locked the doors/windows before bed & that shock prevented me from immediately dialing 911…but within 5mins I had. He’d broken in after picking back door lock but was never caught, I don’t think he expected my bf to be there. However it took me 5mins to move & find a phone, not 7hrs. I would guess the reason they were trying to see his hands in the traffic stops was because murderers who stab their victims often cut themselves in the process of the act. As far as the roommate goes it sounded to me like perhaps the murderer didn’t see her as he was focused on leaving the scene. She may have just been peeking out from behind the door. I’m not flinging my door open if I think something sketchy is happening outside my room. Perhaps in her state of shock she couldn’t call police. I’ve seen people who have experienced trauma go catatonic for hours unable to move or speak. Or maybe her phone was in the living room or kitchen and she was too afraid to leave her room to go get it and call. We have no idea. I think it unfair to judge the roommate without more details. I agree. It seems to me that between all the police departments involved and the FBI they knew exactly how to get this suspect by following every step of the investigation right down to the smallest detail. I applauded this dedicated men and women for finding a suspect when it seemed to be an impossible task

THE AFFIDAVIT BEGINS WITH THE OFFICER SAYING(QUOTE) WE ARRIVED APPROXIMATELY 4AM ...??? LATER IT SAYS THE CALL DIDNT COME IN AND POLICE DIDNT ARRIVE UNTIL AFTER 11AM ??? SO WHAT IS IT OFFICER ???? DID YOU ARRIVE AT 4AM OR SOME 7 HOURS LATER .... THIS STINKS FROM THE OPENING AND ALL THE WAY THROUGH...DNA OF A MALE IN GENERAL... YOU CAN NOT DO DNA TESTING AND BREAK DOWN IN HOURS OR A DAY OR 2 ... IT IS VERY SENSITIVE AND MUST SIT IN A CONTROLED TEMP AND LIGHTING FOR SOME TIME LONG BEFORE BEGINING TO DO THE BREAK DOWN...IT TAKES WEEKS AT BEST TO COMPLETE ALTHOUGH YOU CAN TELL IF IT IN GENERAL IS MALE OR FEMALE QUICKLY ... THEN THE CAR ON VIDEOS SHOWS IT IN THE 700 BLOCK OF THE ROAD OF WHICH THE HOUSE IS IN THE 1100 BLOCK WHICH IS SOME 4 BLOCKS AWAY AND THE OTHER VIDEO SHOWS IT NEAR A HIGHWAY WE DONT KNOW HOW FAR THAT IS BUT TO SAY THIS IS SOME KIND OF EVIDENCE IS BOGUS AT BEST AND THEY DID NOT IDENTIFY THE EXACT MAKE OF THE CAR FROM THE VIDEOS AND YET NOW ITS THE ACCUSED MANS CAR EXACTLY.... THE CELL PHONE TRACKING HIS PHONE DAYS PRIOR IN THE AREA IS A BROAD STATEMENT AND??? As a 30yr federal litigator and expert in many fields related and evidence collection and processing... i find a general car identity and DNA not given in any kind of detail says to me that it is possible they have the wrong man... being in the area other nights says little to nothing ... I'm not on the side of the alleged perp but i seen nothing that even remotely can be enough to even charge without a good defense attorneys ability in a probable cause hearing to challenge and dismiss this or begin destroying this inexperienced police departments process that initiated this case ...its weak at best as far as this video shows... the knife sheath DNA after being said they dont know the weapon and therefore also implied it was a large knife but this sheath average to small and not even the actual sheath just makes many commenting here a mans guilt remind me of Christ and judging and yet dont know ,,, people should be careful judging ... i have been involved in 1000s of cases of wrongful arrest and 100s of over turned convictions which is my area of work in the high courts... it could be you or your family some day so be careful and remember ... by the measure you judge you also shall be judged... my heart breaks for these children and the families,,,the deserve justice done right... 4 people stabbed leaves me wondering why the roommates didn't call police for almost 7 hours and there had to be some screams beyond hearing a few words... eye witness who sees bushy eye brows and a height 7 hours??? somethings wrong here ??? especially when a roommate says she locked herself in her room knowing something bad was happening

When I was a kid someone entered through the window of the first fllor apartment we were living back then. They window was left opened that night, the guy went all over the house collecting stuff... I remember I felt him and I pretended to be sleeping and 'prayed' my family and my brother who was in the same room as me, would not suddenly wake up. I was 11 years old and the guy got out through the window leaving some things behind when someone discovered him on the window and ran away. Never thought I was in danger but had I woken up I guess he would have all ended differently. I can never forget that night. Now I am 52.

You never know how one will respond in these situations. I walked in on a burglar when I was 19 years old. I didn't see them but they closed my bedroom door in my face. I just stood there blank minded for a few seconds before walking back into the kitchen. Then, decided to leave to call police. I can't believe I was in disbelief, but I was. Poor girl could have been in denial (was I dreaming) or maybe thought he was a guest who was leaving. Any number of understandable reasons...especially being so young and inexperienced.

What I would like to know is why such a reaction to seeing someone in the home? I mean,..it's mentioned that they constantly had visitors. Also he WALKED past the witness and left. Any logical person might just believe that the stranger is a visitor. So why the shock and fear of the witness if the witness had no idea what had just happened. Somehow, none of it makes sense.

The cops worked backwards to frame the accused instead of proceeding in a linear fashion from the start of the investigation to come up with a suspect who actually should be indicted.

I am glad that those other 2 survived. Possibly the one who saw him went into shock. Fear can do some really strange things to a person or maybe he didn’t see her. It was reallly really late. That poor girl is now messed up for life and she should not feel guilt of any kind but yet she will

I fallowed this from the beginning and I grew up 1.5 miles from desales university. I tried to look up unsolved murders from the time frame he was here but the internet sucks for that kind of thing now. It’s extremely hard to look up any factual or official information on line. It was getting difficult gradually until 2016. After 2016 the internet was ruined you can’t even do research on your self with out 4 pages of advertising and celebrity bull.

Josh you can’t assume or take the comments in the report literally. For example you say she heard the roommate awake playing with the dog. It said she heard “what sounded like” playing with the dog. That very well could have been the intruder in the upstairs room, and it was DM’s interpretation of why the dog was running around barking. For all we know he killed the girl’s upstairs before running into Xana and Ethan on the main level. They also said in some articles that the voice she heard saying “there’s someone here” might have actually been Xana not Kaylee as there is evidence that Xana was awake at the time. I think it likely that Kaylee and Morgan were attacked in their sleep given both were in bed.

Knife holsters usually snap over a belt. Just maybe one of his victims pulled it off or he forgot to pick it up! A friend of mine was riding in the car with her boyfriend and someone stopped them and when her friend rolled down the window a man shot him to death and my friend was so terrified she couldn't tell the cops anything. I went with her when the cops took her to be hypnotized and she remembered everything under hypnosis.

@mark r. Devereux I've read our subconscious mind holds memories in a series of pictures. I understand that the sketch artist walks you through every minute detail of the face, unless traumatized and blocking it out, IMO most of us could pull up that memory to describe a person in detail.

@@beetlejette I know I'm not one those..... intruder was big and had bushy hair..types however lips and nose and eyes I really don't think so at least not if it's a short glance. Might depend on the sketch artist I know they sometimes they try to eliminate features that they did not have by that process get quickly to the most probable ones.

It’s not obvious to call the police just because you see a strange man in your house especially during Covid with a mask on… especially on a late party night. Further, women are often told that we are over reacting when we have actual fear… And then there is the real freeze response. We need to stop re-victimizing this roommate. I’m sure she feels a lot of guilt and shame already.

I feel the exact same way. Roommate crying and someone saying I’m going to take care of you? I’d probably just assume they drank too much and are sick. A thud? I mean that’s pretty common in any college house. Dog barking? Dogs bark. A stranger in your house and it freaks you out? You probably don’t assume the worst and just think your roommates have a weird friend that scared you in the middle of the night. My mind wouldn’t go to call 911, in a half asleep state I’m sure I’d also think oh it’s nothing just go to bed. I just can’t cast judgement on this girl without hearing her whole story. The affidavit is only pieces of the puzzle

My gut tells me that the "tenant" that witnessed the "intruder" is hiding something. For one she went unharmed by this person who murdered 4 others in that home. Secondly, she looked straight into his eyes & closed her door as if it wasn't "strange" that an intruder was in her home & at that hour, to not immediately notify the police. I would truly interrogate this person extensively because many things don't sit right 🤔

"There is someone here". Honestly: It was a blood bath, dripping outside of the house. A total mess. No one said "There is someone here." They must have all been screaming like hell, when he killed them with a knife. Maybe she remembers "There is someone here" and then the mess started and her brain collapsed. It tried to protect this young lady and that made her do weird things like posting pictures on the VSCO app, because she wanted back to normality as she was trying to stay alive.
