Loved battling tops! We used to have tournaments, still would and I'm 63!😂

This game was brilliant

This was one of those toys that I actually never really got tired of. I got it when I was about 8 and at 10 I still played with it regularly...

This was one of my favorite toys from my childhood!

It's in the wrist action......I bet that haunted him for the rest of his life.

That day before beyblade existed

I wrote to Santa in our newspaper.I was straight to the point . Santa I want Battling Tips ! Loved it riven using dental floss as the original pulls, they got lost over the years. Twirling Tim. Smarty Smitty. Super Sam.

Good memories of playing this at our neighbors house after church eating a small KFC meal....oh the great times we had battling each other....circa 1974...age 10...

I remember this back in '69. In fact, I played a variation on the game once with my buddy Andrew. But I could never get my top to spin for very long, because I wound the string too tightly, and I didn't have the "wrist action" the Champ had in the commercial. My favorite line in it was, "Watson's top is down...but it's up again! Anything can happen in Battling Tops." In that way I've come to regard Battling Tops as a metaphor for life - ups and downs, anything can happen, success as well as failure. So how goes the battle?

The red top reverses the spinning direction (what you can see as it also reverses the circles it makes, technically called precession). That proves that they played the film backwards to make it rise. ta0

Still got mine in the loft, along with action man (2 infact) a toy spifire /hawker harrier and a toy sports car with a connecting cable which you pressed and it moved with the front lights coming on... didn't get much there was 6 of us...thought ide share it with you all...it's all in the detail.

Anyone remember Beyblade? This is the same idea...

You had a sheet of stickers whot you put on the tops

Used to cheat at that game using a pseudo dremel fashioned out of hobby-kit AC motor and flywheel to get the top up to 'less than regulation speeds' against the string powered opponents. The cheat didn't work that well, since most often it would just fly out of the ring on the first collision with an opponent - arc across the room, often ending up under a couch.

This was Gen X's beyblades

In conclusion, Battling Tops was single and simple, but it was easier and funnier than Beyblade.
