Ideal Gear Shifting Technique for CB350 | CB350 Gear Shifting
#cb350gearratio

To achieve maximum mileage on the Honda CB350, it's crucial to adopt a smooth and efficient gear shifting technique. Here's a guide to the perfect gear shifting technique for optimal fuel efficiency:
Begin by smoothly engaging first gear when starting from a standstill. Avoid excessive revving of the engine, as it wastes fuel unnecessarily.
Progressive Acceleration: Gradually increase throttle input as you accelerate, allowing the engine to build momentum smoothly. Avoid sudden bursts of acceleration, as they consume more fuel.
Shift Early: Upshift to higher gears at lower engine RPMs to maintain a relaxed cruising speed. The CB350's torquey engine allows for early upshifting without sacrificing performance.
Maintain Consistent Speed: Once you reach your desired cruising speed, maintain a steady throttle position and gear selection. Avoid unnecessary gear changes or fluctuations in speed, as they can decrease fuel efficiency.
Anticipate Deceleration: When approaching a stop or slowing down, anticipate the need to downshift by gradually releasing the throttle and engaging lower gears. This allows for engine braking to assist in slowing down the motorcycle without relying solely on the brakes.
Avoid Over-Revving: Refrain from over-revving the engine in lower gears, especially during aggressive acceleration. This not only wastes fuel but also puts unnecessary strain on the engine components.
Use Engine Braking: When descending hills or coming to a stop, utilize engine braking by downshifting to lower gears instead of solely relying on the brakes. This helps in conserving fuel and prolonging brake life.
By following these guidelines and maintaining a smooth, conservative riding style, you can maximize the fuel efficiency of your Honda CB350 without compromising on performance or enjoyment.

I think long gearing is the reason why mileage is good in comparison to others😅
@rideForFun66
@rideForFun66 Месяц назад
@piyushahuja03, Piyush Ji, the RE Classic 350 also features a similar type of long gearing engine. Having ridden the RE Classic for over 1000 km, I've noticed that its 5th gear also underperforms below 60 km/h. However, the main difference in mileage can be attributed to the superior refinement of the engine and Honda's world-class technology, befitting its status as an age-old automobile company.

1st gear up to 15 to 20, 2nd gear 20 to 35, 3rd gear 35 to 45, 4th gear 45 to 60, 5th gear 60 to 70 if pillion is available you need to add 5 more Km. totally depends on traffic conditions road conditions I am getting 39 to 40 kmpl on highway in 80 km speed
@rideForFun66
@rideForFun66 5 месяцев назад
Sanjay ji, 39-40 is also a good mileage. The speed limit shown by you for shifting gears is actually for ride with pillion itself. You can engage 4th gear below 50 with ease and if you engage 5th gear at 60 without going further, I'm sure you would get 2-4 km more mileage. I engage gears at minimum required throttle and that's why I have achieved 46 kmpl. I use of bike's weight and road conditions to maximize my mileage. How I do this, I have explained it in this video.

Great video!..Gear shifting in my highness feels hard and noisy, especally in lower gears. Did you face such issue?
@rideForFun66
@rideForFun66 Месяц назад
Thank you, Rohit Ji, for your appreciation. I haven't encountered any issues with gear hardness so far. However, I do notice a 'khat' sound while shifting between 1st and 2nd gear, which I believe is normal since the bike is at low RPM. The higher gears shift very smoothly. If there are any unusual sounds, I would recommend getting them checked at the service center. During this monsoon, I experienced an issue with the handle of my H'ness, it was getting stuck and not moving smoothly sometimes. When I took it to the service center, he slightly loosened the bearing nut. However, this caused play in the handle shaft and cone. As a result, the handlebar's center shaft started shaking back and forth while applying front brake, which damaged the steel balls (chcharre) underneath. A local mechanic temporarily fixed the issue by applying grease and slightly tightening the bearing nut. Tomorrow, my 3rd free service is due, and I will get it fixed. Aside from this, my H'ness is as good as new, having clocked 10,500 km.

Congratulations Braj Kiran Ji for your new CB350. The first service of your bike will be done within one month or 1000 km whichever is earlier. I would request you to see this video in which I have explained how to ride new bike. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NrFVSbqwcH4.htmlsi=-DoyPSoyZk5VHlUi The main points to be remembered are :- 1) When you cold start the bike in morning , let it idle at least for 2 minutes for proper circulation of oil in every part of engine. 2) Try to ride mostly in city so that you can use all the gears. Keep the speed minimum in every gear. Don't throttle hard. 3) Don't exceed 70 kmph till first service. 4) Don't ride in one gear continuously. Use gears frequently. Try to ride 800-1000 km before first service. Don't undertake long rides to complete 1000 km. Instead go for small rides everyday. I did the same thing for my first service. This is called engine break-in. 5) Don't apply breaks with too much force. Only rear break can't stop the bike in time, apply both the breaks. 6) Ride in 8 figure (like RTO Test) for 5-6 minutes to make the tyres rough so that bike don't slip on corners. 7) Install handlebar risers for comfortable riding. 8) Headlight is not good. Install good auxiliary lights for night riding. Fog light video is on my channel. 9) Install back rest of Honda. It enhances the look of bike and useful for pillion rider. If any doubt, I'm there to assist you. Congratulations again. All the best, Sir.

Riding lower speeds at higher gears will strain the engine a lot. It's better to downshift and rev the engine a little bit instead of straining it at higher higher gears.
@rideForFun66
@rideForFun66 4 месяца назад
Riding higher gear in lower speed is also fine, just need to ensure that engine don't knock and run smoothly. I Ride in the city in this manner. I ensure that engine don't feel stressed as you mentioned. Every time I check my Trip A Avg which regularly shows it between 46-50 kmpl. I have already tested Trip A Avg as well as Real average with full tank. The difference in Trip A Avg and Real mileage is only 3-4 km. Means in actual, I get 43+ mileage regularly.

You are right brother,he will end up damaging crank bearing fast.Also low RPM continuously ,will generate deposits on piston and valves.
@rideForFun66
@rideForFun66 4 месяца назад
Sir, I agree with your perspective. However, the risk of crank bearing damage arises when a rider consistently pushes the engine in a knocking condition for several kilometers during each ride. When I recommend riding in a higher gear at a lowest speed, it doesn’t imply that the rider should avoid revving the engine altogether. Instead, the rider should maintain the necessary RPM to ensure smooth engine operation without reaching the knocking stage. However, thanks for pointing out the issue though.

In city conditions it's normal to get 25-28 kmpl It will improve after 1st and 2nd service and If your riding style is high revving then this mileage is still very good. After 2nd service I'm getting 28.5 in high revving in city traffic and 32-35 on highway, still high speed riding. My gear changing method: 1st gear: 0-30 kph 2nd gear: 30-55 kph 3rd gear: 55-80 kph 4th gear: 80-100 kph 5th gear: 100+

@rideForFun66 Месяц назад
Many many Congratulations Sir on having new H'ness. Don't worry sir, my first vehicle was also a scooter, LML Vespa T5. Very soon you will get used to it. Now the bike is new. First service will be done within a month or 1000 km whichever is earlier. I would advise you to ride the bike in the city as much as possible to complete engine break-in process. Use all the gears. Don't try to complete 1000km in log stretched where only top gear is used. Avoid continuous ride in top gear, use all gears. That's why I recommend ride in city area only for best engine break-in process. You should ride at least 800 km before first service. Simply start the bike, let it idle for 2 minutes, engage 1st gear, and begin the ride. Shift to 2nd gear at around 30 kmph, 3rd at 45 kmph, 4th at 55 kmph, and 5th at above 65 kmph. As you gain confidence, you'll naturally start shifting at slightly lower speeds. Right now, your primary focus should be on the engine break-in process until the first service. This period is crucial for smoothing out the tiny rough spots on the cylinder, piston, gears, and other moving parts. These small particles will be captured by the oil, which will be replaced during your first service. When you approach an incline and your speed is at 60 kmph, quickly downshift to 4th gear. If your speed drops below 50 kmph, shift to 3rd gear; if it falls below 30 kmph, shift to 2nd gear; and if it goes below 20 kmph, engage 1st gear. For acceleration, follow this shifting pattern . The key is to shift to higher gears gradually while downshifting quickly. This should help you avoid any knocking issue. Lastly, keep in mind that eco mode is primarily for 5th gear, designed to help maintain a speed between 75-85 kmph for better fuel efficiency. However, you don’t need to worry about it right now. Focus on getting comfortable with the bike and the break-in process. Best of luck!

Ritik Bhai, lagbhag sabhi bikes me 1st gear dalte samay thoda jor se awaj hota hi hai. Kyoki, cold start karte samay engine ka rpm jyada hota hai aur bike static (khadi) position me hoti hai. Jab bike chalti halat me hoti hai, tab rear wheel ka gear (jis par chain chadhi hoti hai) wo bhi ghumata rehata hai, isliye running position me gear jyada awaj nahi karte.

Nikhil ji, 32 is also ok for your riding style. Actually, mileage totally depends upon the individual's riding style. Most of the riders prefer mileage over power due to the rising fuel price. If we want mileage, then we need to be very gentle on the throttle.

Yah, little lag will be there If we want to pull the bike in suddenly in 4th gear below 50. Downshift is must or pull it linearly. Actually this method is for city ride to obtain max fuel efficiency. As all of us know we don't ride below 80 on Highways.

Yes Ansh Bhai, it's same for CB RS also as it has same engine. The Honda has offered it with Toe shifter because foot pegs are placed few inches backward as compared to H'ness to achieve aggressive riding posture. Now about mileage. There are many factors affecting city mileage like low tire pressure, bad fuel, chain without lube, big rear Tyre etc. But main factor is your riding style and improper gear ratio. If you remain gentle on throttle and use gear as I have explained, I'm sure your mileage will definitely increase. To check this, see your "Trip A Avg" reading now, which must be around 30 kmpl. Now make it Zero, (need to zero 'Trip A' first for that). Adopt my riding method and see the difference in 10 km city ride. I'm sure you will be surprised !!

Yes Subarna Ji, you can try if you have done at least 1000 km after 1st service. I hope you must have done at least 600-700 km in first service. Getting mileage of 35 in the city is not that bad before 2nd service. I'm sure it would increase after 5000 km. While Riding this way, maintain minimum RPM so that engine runs smoothly and don't reach at knocking stage. While increasing speed, increase speed linearly, don't pull accelerator. Fill only 5 Ltr petrol, never fill full tank. It would reduce 10 kg weight. Clear and lube chain at every 300 km. Maintain tyre pressure. All these small things help a lot in getting more mileage. I have achieved 45+ kmpl in 100 km at 70-80 speed. You will also get it if you ride like a gentleman. All the best Bro.

Shenoy Ji, I respect your opinion, but my comparison of the Unicorn and H'ness is based on my experience of 22-25 non-stop rides of 300 km each way from Mumbai to my farmhouse over the past two years. I had a Unicorn 160 before getting the H'ness. I noticed a similarity in the top gear of both bikes: it's not easy to accelerate in the top gear at minimum speed on either bike. In both cases, you need to downshift to 4th gear for sudden acceleration. That's why I mentioned that if someone has ridden a Unicorn, the H'ness will feel familiar. Of course, we can't directly compare the Unicorn 160 with the H'ness, as the former has a square engine of 162cc while the latter has a long-stroke engine of 348cc. Anyway, thanks for the appreciation.

Yah, due to the rear brod tyre, RS may not match the mileage of H'ness, but mileage of RS would definitely increase. If you want to test it, set your Trip A Avg meter to Zero and take a highway ride of 20-30 km at 75 speed. Sir, 44+ is a wonderful mileage by cb350. But why aren't you using 5th gear, Sir? If you use 5th at constant speed of 70. I'm sure your Trip-A Avg meter would show 47 kmpl. You won't believe but I have seen my Trip A showing 48 Avg at 70 speed and 43+ at 80-90 speed many times. As long as city mileage is concerned, if you follow my riding method, you would get 38 for sure. Actually we shouldn't mind city mileage becoz we travel short distances but cold start the bike several times. This consumes more fuel than highways run as we travel non stop and don't have to cold start bike so often. We need to know the difference between mileage and Average. Mileage is achieved in one stretch non stop travel, whereas average is of mix road condition rides in many stretches involving so many starts and stops.

Meet ji, is tarike se gear shifting apko 35 bhi avg nahi milega. Aap 25 par 2nd gear, 35 par 3rd, 50 par 4th aur 65 par 5th gear dalenge to apko Trip A Avg meter apko 44-46 avg show karega, jo 42 real mileage hoga. Heating issue sirf city traffic me hoga kyonki 350cc ka air cooled engine hai, highway par koi issue nahi hota. Wobbling high speed me suna tha, slow speed par 1st time suna maine. Agar pillion seat par 30-40 kg boja rakhenge to bhi handle wobble karega, lekin 50 kg ka aadmi baithne se nahi hota, practical karke dekna. Baki chije jo affect karti hai, wo front wheel ka alignment ma hona, balancing weight kar gir Jana, tyre ka manufacturing defect, dono mirror sahi se adjust na hona, bike ka crash noha, front wheel jor se gadde me girna, bearing worn out hona ye sab wobbling ke karan ho sakte hai. Isme tyre ka defective hona kabhi pakad me nahi ata hai, new tyre lena uska solution hai. Aap check karke dekhna.

@@meetbrahmbhatt8524 I agree with your concern. However, the risk of engine damage arises when a rider consistently pushes the engine in a knocking condition for several kilometers during each ride. When I recommend riding in a higher gear at a lowest speed, it doesn’t mean that the rider should avoid revving the engine totally. Instead, the rider should maintain the necessary RPM to ensure smooth engine operation without reaching the knocking stage. Then there is no risk of causing damage to the engine and this is applicable to every vehicle whether its a car of bike or even a big truck. So try to follow my method of gear shifting to achieve higher mileage in city. On highwys, if you maintain 70-75 speed, Hness gives 42-44 kmpl mileage very easily. You can take test drive of 25-30 km and check the mileage.

@rideForFun66
@rideForFun66 3 месяца назад
Hello Rakshit ji !! I doubt anyone would take the initiative to translate this video in English for you, so let me do it for those who don't understand Hindi. In this video, I explain the optimal way to shift gears to achieve maximum mileage. When starting the Honda H'ness, it initially runs at a high RPM and takes 3 to 4 minutes to reach complete idle. Instead of waiting for it to idle completely, switch off the engine after a couple of minutes, engage 1st gear and start the ride straight way. Thus, you can save 80-100 ml of fuel at every cold start. This is first part of the video. The second part is about speed to gear ratio. After starting as described above, shift to 2nd gear between 25-30 km/h, 3rd gear between 35-40, 4th gear between 45-55 and 5th gear at 60-65 km/h. Always aim to ride at the lowest speed within each higher gear to ensure smooth engine operation without reaching the knocking stage. Thus, you can achieve mileage of 38-40 kmpl in the city if you maintain a gentle throttle. Some RU-vidrs suggests you can engage 4th gear only after 60-70 km/h and 5th gear after 80-90 km/h. One can do so but it's not the right way of shifting gears. I've practically shown that you can easily engage 3rd gear at 35 km/h, 4th gear at 45 km/h, and 5th gear at 60 km/h. It work perfectly without any issues. I've ridden my H'ness for over 9000 km using this method. When encountering slight slopes, shift to a higher gear. On flyovers, I engage 5th gear at even 45-50 km/h and release the throttle to coast, then downshift to 4th gear to increase speed gradually for to get max mileage. My bike's Trip A Average consistently shows 48-50 kmpl in the city, which is equivalent to 42 kmph of regular mileage, because I always try to engage 4th and 5th gears even in the city. When approaching a signal about 200 meters away, I shift to a higher gear, release the throttle to coast to the signal, and switch off the engine. Turn it back on just before the signal turns green, even if the wait is 30 seconds. In heavy traffic, quickly switch off the engine if a stalled; it takes only 2 seconds to restart. On highways, aim for a steady increase to 75-80 km/h rather than rushing to achieve 80 km/h, which can yield real-world mileage of 42-44 kmpl, showing an average of 46-48 kmpl on the Trip A Average meter. I've achieved 45 kmph mileage in a 100 km tank-to-tank test at 75-80 km/h speeds; you can watch the video of this on my channel. Maintain tire pressure, clean and lubricate the chain every 300 km for optimal performance. Ensure regular servicing for better mileage. Best of luck!

Yes, you are right Suraj Bhau. Instead of stiffness, we may say that the suspension is slightly harder on the higher side due to the weight of the motorcycle. Agar ise thoda soft banaya hota to urgent front brake lagane ke waqt bike jhatkese ekdum age ki aur dub jati. Us jhatke ko slow karne ke liye heavy bikes ka suspension thoda hard hota hai.

Ashwin ji, aap ne jaise bataya waise bhi dhakka dekar 1st gear dal sakte hai. Par 2 minute engine heat hona bhi jaruri hai taki oil heat hokar engine me proper circulate hokar lubricate kar sake. Otherwise hum bike ko sidhe l 1st gear dalkar bike switch on karke 2 second me bhi nikal sakte hai, par aisa karna engine ko damage karega aur environment ke bhi thik nahi hai. (Maine yaha fir se bike start karne se pehale ko gear me dalne ke baat ki, kyonki high RPM me gear dalne se jor se "khaattaak" ki awaj hogi). As per honda, the reason for High RPM at cold start is that the catalytic converter will filter the exhaust gases properly only when engine temperature reaches at optimal level so as to meet the BS6 norms. So let the engine aquire required temperature for 2 minute and then start the journey. Regards.

Anurag ji, jab hum bike ko cold start karte hai, to woh ded 2 minute bahut high RPM par chalta hai, uske baad agle ded 2 minute RPM thoda low hai aur takriban 3-4 minute me RPM normal hota hai. Is process ko pura hone me hamara kafi petrol burn hota hai. Isliye jab gadi high RPM se thoda low RPM par aati hai, tab yane 1-ded minute me gadi thoda heat hone ke bad switch off karke 1st gear me dalna hai aur chal dena hai. Is se apko petrol bachega. Gadi switch off kiye bagair agar gear dalenge to RPM jyda hone se gear box se "khhataak" aisi jor se awaj hoti hai. Bus yeh kehana chahta hu video me. Aur Honda ko maine high RPM ka timing kum karne ke liye bola to unka kehna hai ki ye ECU ka setting hai, BS6 norms meet karne ke liye Kiya hai.

Tall gearing ka matlab gadi ka ek gear se dusare gear mangne me jyada samay lena. Agar aap 100cc bike ka example le, to use hum 30-35 ke speed par hi top gear tak pahuncha dete hai. Unicorn ko mai 40 tak hi 5th gear me dal tea tha aur wo us speed me 5th gear me Bina jhatke mare maje se chalti thi. 350cc ki bikes me long stroke engine hone ki wajah se inme ek gear se dusare gear me Jane ke liye jyada speed ki jarurat hoti hai. Kyonki jitne time me unicorn ka piston 2 bar ghumta hai, utane time me 350cc bike ka piston sirf ek bar ghumta hai. Isliye 350cc ko top gear yane 5va dalne ke liye lagbhag 60 ke speed ki jarurat padti hai. Isme hua ye ki kuchh Yutubers batate the Highness ka 5va gear 80-90 ke baad hi Kam karta hai. Usi baat ko maine is video me bataya ki aap 55-60 speed par bhi 5th gear kis tarah laga sakte hai. Bus yehi story hai. I hope ki aap samajh gaye honge.
