You know, honestly it’s hard not to feel depressed about gaming and media in general lately. Baldur’s Gate 3 was a breath of fresh air, but watching AAA devs panick and shit on Larian Studios made it seem like games couldn’t be like what they once were. Then along came HellDivers 2 and restored my faith that games can be fun again, for the sake of being fun, and not about the money. Thank you Arrowhead. I hope companies like you and Larian continue to think of your communities first, because you’ll always make money from me at least Edit: Holy Cow y’all thank you for all the love, I’ve never had this many likes on a comment and it’s super humbling. I’m also really happy that my comment sparked a conversation free of debate and arguments. I’m so tired of seeing hate in the comments. ✌️
Game dev purely as a business can never match Larian, sadly. All these great franchises we grew up playing came from nerds who really wanted cool games. Now that the industry is about extracting money from customers, their design goals get in the way of passion projects. They are always chasing the get rich quick idea and not focusing on making a simple, honest and fun experience. Larian succeeded because they built an engine and a team up over decades and leveraged that foundation to put so much extra time and effort into Baldur's Gate 3 because they wanted to go as far as they could with it. AAA can't achieve this because they ditch staff between releases, put money extraction in the way of good design like creating a problem for monetization to solve or they get lazy like Bethesda cutting away so much of what made their experience unique to play, so they can appeal to wider audiences instead of making a core, specific experience really thorough. It's why indie games that focus on one gameplay theme do so well nowadays. Kenshi, Sons of the Forest, Palworld, Helldivers 2 and so many other great games. The only depressing thing about AAA is that they the own cool IPs, so we'll never get truly interesting Star Wars or Marvel games ever.
Could be wrong here, but I feel like there wasn’t as much developer backlash for helldivers 2 as there was for boulders gate partly because Sony published this game.
That's because BG2 did it better overall. There's so much depth to the characters. And so many. And the world was designed in a very sandbox way with Baldurs Gate being a big whole city. BG3 is missing half of the city for a start. The games does well with what it does. But it's flaws also show. Ending was rushed/forced too. Helldivers 2 at least focuses on the action. So it's not got lore to worry about so much.
@@thevoid511 Baldur's Gate 3 just had such a breadth of really high quality content, AAA is looking at that and complaining because they aren't allowed to match it. Too much bullshit goes on with AAA games for them to really focus on adding so much extra fat to their game. Helldivers 2 is a really simple game, they could be doing that if they'd let their studios run with ideas that aren't industry meta money makers. To that other guy's comment, I don't think anyone compares BG2 and BG3 because they are from completely different studios, from a different era of games. It's a bad comparison even if they share the franchise name.
The ODST music at the beginning. But no xbox version. Yet. When the day comes we can finally join you have an army of helljumpers waiting to join the fight and spread democracy
This game has rejuvenated me and my friends love for gaming. Before we were mindlessly playing Seige and complaining. But this game has genuinely been the most fun I’ve had in a while. Thank you Arrowhead, one of the last bastions of goodness in the gaming world. All I ask is Xbox get a shot too.
Where everyone else failed, the Helldivers succeeded. This game is honestly a breath of fresh air. It's game play is pretty unique and I haven't been this hyped about a game in so long
I've never been one to take playing games seriously, it's for recreation. I personally avoid the try hards and sweats online. Recently I've jumped on the lower difficulties to help and play with lower levels on Helldivers 2. There's something about giving the new players heavy weapons and a mech that brings levels of joy to the game haha. I'm level 45 playing with level 10-20s and I'm having fun. That's the whole point.
NEVER FORGET THE SPARTANS AND PILOTS THAT DIED SO THAT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO SPREAD DEMOCRACY! fr tho without those games the influence may not have been there for this masterpiece of a game
If only some place would give me a job I could get this game. Gaming is in a strange place right now, and new games made me go back to the classics more, bring back old nostalgia
_The leaves of the trees rustled, and on the wind, I heard one more question…_ "What the Hell are you?" 😨 《I'M WHAT INSPIRED THE FAIRY TALE, YOU SOULLESS SHISNO!》
Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what my experience with this game has been since my buddy convinced me to try it after I spent like 2 hours ranting about how much I missed 2007 gaming.
I keep telling myself it's time to play something else and shrink my backlog of other games, but then I wind up playing Helldivers 2 for the next three hours.
The fucking Halo ODST soundtrack is peak. Guys, no joke, mute your in game music and play Marty O Donnels master class Halo ODST soundtrack while kicking ass in Hell divers feels insanely good. Really recommend you guys try it out some time. If Halo and Helldivers ever do a colab I'd lose my mind and my wallet
0:33 That almost looks like a dwarven scout miner... But. Dwarves don't operate above ground and they dont really need to bend a knee to pet a lootbug. So... impostor maybe?
the current standing of the games industry AAA games are made to be sold indie devs mostly make games that are made to be played and then there is the mobile games industry (we dont talk about them) whos only goal is to shovel as much shit into the market as they can. regardless of what quality control may say to them.
TTS is classic and i am glad people are using them in 2024, don't give in to the crappy AI junk that are against the Voice Actors consent if you want voice actors, Casting Call Club is a hub for aspiring and upstart voice actors and want to be voice actors
Its funny how so many AAA devs and publishers fail to make a fun game these days and then an indie dev with enough funding comes around and shows how its done.
