We recently purchased a portable lift and here is our review on it, WE LOVE IT! iDEAL MSC-6KLP 6,000 lb Single Post Portable Lift #autorepair #portablelift #autorepairlift #idealportablelift
Two questions. In the lowest setting, with a car on it, could you move it? And, can you park a car under it assuming high enough? Getting over the base could be a challenge I suppose... thanks for the video.
i would put 5/8 plywood under it if on blacktop, those rollers may slowly sink just enough to throw balance off and would put those tall screw adjust posts under front and rear of heavy vehicles
@@jonkastanek7367 Yes works pretty good, if I had more room I would have bought a 4 post lift. For what I like to do I also have sidexside and tractors. Mine is rated for 7,000lbs. I put a Ford f150 4x4 supercrew on it.
We all have our opinions and that’s fine. This thing has been great for us and our size shop. We were a little sketched about it at first but if you practice safety this thing is just about as good as any 2 or 4 post lift.
I am considering this lift for our shop. We have a small lip in our garage entrance about 1-1/2" tall. If you raise this up like a pallet jack, will it clear that big of a lip without scratching the crap out of the bottom?
my garage is not tall enough so I wonder if i can keep it outside? is there any way to be able to kinds lay it down so i can at least store it and pop it outside to work?
@jerseyshoreautorepair1727 they said they will void the 5 yr warranty if it's outside. How long have you kept it outside? Also could 3 guys tilt the top to clear a residential garage door ? My garage is tall enough just not the door. Thoughts???
Concept is good, reality is R&R tranny would be a real pain in the a$$.Those legs extending under the car make excellent trippers ,would be handy for brake work and some suspension jobs I am still a 4 poster.
My question is how difficult it would be to get lowered cars onto this lift? Looks like you would have to build some wooden stepped ramps to clear both sides. Especially the side without the ramp.
@@Orange14444 It was $2,000 delivered to the shop. As long as you have the ceiling height it can go high enough for you to stand underneath it no problem.
@@jerseyshoreautorepair1727 wow! You got a deal on that thing! They are selling for over $5,000 nowadays! And that is good to know that I am able to stand under it like a traditional lift. Thank you for taking the time to respond!
It looks like the base should be wider in the car length direction? What if you guess the center of gravity wrong? I've worked as a mechanic with hoists for 35 years, and I want one of these for at home in my garage. I'm imagining building some hold down brackets to bolt it to the concrete for heavier vehicles though!
There is a marker on the lift that shows the center of gravity that the vehicle must be over. This is a great investment for your home shop no doubt. And yes you can make any brackets and bolt them down, we have thought about doing that.
yes you can do that. But, if you have the room, pull in your vehicle and then push the lift under it. We don't have the room in the shop so every time we have to drive over the lift and have someone guide in.
@@gordonhampton3429 not sure of the weight, but one person can move it around on a smooth surface. If there are any lips of the garages, or dents in the floor you will need more than one person to get it over that type stuff.
@@jerseyshoreautorepair1727 that's awesome to hear, one of my project vehicles weigh 5800lbs and was skeptical of getting close to that max weight rating. Great looking piece. I have 4 post lifts currently and they are great for storage but suck for working on vehicles with (no access to the wheels, brakes, suspension without further using a bridge jack on top of the 4 post. I think this single post may be the best solution. Cheers!
Luis Almeida we have not done any transmission replacements on this lift yet. The bar could be in the way depending on what vehicle it is. Smaller cars with the transmissions on the side (like civics) wouldn’t be a problem. Others could.
It’s been great, still going strong! Yes you can do that on here but you do have the bottom support that could possibly be in the way. The front of the vehicle should hang over far enough to get it done.
@@jerseyshoreautorepair1727 Awesome. Thanks. I was looking at my cars. Looked like it should work. Been doing alot of reaserch. I have a "kwiklift ramp" and quickacks and want somthing that can go higher and make life alot easier and possibly replace the kwiklift ramp. Few more questions! Could you put the lift against a wall? I know you need space to pull the pallet handle but how much? Also my mustang is real low (autocross car) similar to corvette height, can you drive over this with low cars? I see you guys are moving it around. I want to leave it on one side of my garage. Sorry for the long message. MUCH APPRECIATE THE RESPONSE!
@@SenpaiMC7 That’s no problem at all! The low vehicle will most likely not be able to drive over it. If you have enough space in the garage, (like a two car garage) pull the lift to one side, drive the car in then slide the lift under the vehicle.
Why is that? Because of lift arm adjustability? Just curious because I’ve been thinking about getting one and I have a 2022 Silverado 1500. Curb weight is 5100lbs or so, so it’s under max capacity. If the arms reached the frame, I’d just use some tall safety stands if I needed to raise it up high.
@@joem4746 it will be very wobbly with a long truck on it and will feel unsafe, trust me we tried that on a few trucks and we have had hundreds of different vehicles on the lift.
They are alot better looking in person, we reviewed the entire thing before assembling. If it looked bad/broken we would have not trusted it and returned it. But it’s been fine after 2 years of use.
That depends on where the tank is located. If it is more in the middle of the vehicle then yes this bar will be in the way, but more further in the back you will have no problems.
From the video it does look too narrow but it's really not when you see it in person. We have had trucks that weight just about 6,000 and even one that was 6,100 lb.
