Those U-dinettes with twin knee-knocker posts make it look so difficult to get in and out or really seat more than 2 people. We may need you to demonstrate if they actually fit people well (for seating / getting in and out), similar to the great demos you do on the beds, showing how easy they are to fold/set-up. Square sink would be my vote, but they did a good job of maximizing the counter space. Totally agree - would prefer flip up cargo bunks - such great use of space in a smaller trailer.
Uncle Josh, this one should appeal to many families who are first time RV`ers / campers. My only critique is to swap locations between the sink and cook top. It utilizes the limited amount of space very well. Is it right for me, not really ( but it`s close ) however I`m not the target customer either. Great offering from Salem.
WOW! talk about a major update to a great but compact floor plan. We have the 2021 Platinum Salem FSX and the updated cabinet/bed (now north/south) configuration and new slide design (no more Schwintek) is HUGE!!!! When the 2022 came out with the jackknife I didn't like decreased road mode access but those two bed/cabinet and slide updates make it worth it. Its also clear that the folks at FR are lurking on the various FB groups for this model because the slide is always a big topic of discussion. The updated configuration of the outside kitchen is also something that alot of us have done. Makes it a much more useful space. Kudos to FR for making this great camper even better. Josh, thank you for doing this video. I'm glad and a bit bitter at the same time... LOL...
Well for a couple and a couple of fur babies, this is just perfect. I kinda like that little fridge tucked away, gives room for bowls and plates when cooking. Good for thought.... Pun intended haha
It's okay for a small, lightweight camper. Not perfect for us but I'm sure it's perfect for someone. That's what I like about all the different types out there. Everyone has different needs and wants and those change through life. It's wonderful to have so many options. This seems to be pretty short on storage but that keeps the weight down. The one thing I really like about this one is the cabinet color.
Just discovered your channel as I search for a travel trailer for me and my daughter. I LOVE your reviews!! Your sense of humor makes a walk throughs so entertaining! Thank you! New subscriber!
Happy they put a window in the door, I added one and it makes a huge difference especially if you only have the window over the sink on camp side. One thing I think is good to note especially on the FSX (non-toyhaulers) is how much weight the fiberglass sides and solar panel adds. It really cuts into the cargo capacity, but no regrets for what you get.
I think this is one of the nicest single axle bunkhouses with double bunks. Nicely done. I agree with you on a bunch of things. I like the color scheme on the cabinets. It could use a countertop extension. I think the round sink really maximizes the countertop prep space. The only that stands out to me that I would change is I’d put on a power tongue jack. Other than that, I think it’s good to go.
Just bought one of these a few months ago. Love most everything about it. I honestly think I want a murphy bed in every rv that I get from now on. Fantastic use of space. I will say the slide on this leaked like crazy. The dealer had to replace the whole rubber surround.
I'm sorry to hear you had a leak. Unless it was damaged I'm not sure how simply replacing a rubber bulb and wiper seal system with another copy of the same thing would change the equation but I'm glad you were able to get it resolved
What you described is what we have in our 2021 178BHSKX. That was the original configuration. The E/W configuration is awful. My biggest gripe with the camper. The N/S configuration is much better in my opinion.
I dont mind this round sink because it is plenty deep and the faucet is separate. This is what I want Grand Design to put in the AIM series. I really like the outdoor kitchen area. I would probably remove everything in there and use it for storage. Really dislike the murphy bed BUT thank you for showing how it obstructs the entry to the camper. Full window in door- YES!!! No shade ... Come on... That should be included
Technically they can be with some carpentry and demo work but my main fear is reducing the structural integrity of the rear of the trailer. I can't but help thinking the bunks provide side to side stability for the walls. I've seen people remove them but I'm not going to in ours.
Josh how do we get hold of you? 2d love how honest you are we are looking at one of these. Would you still say it's a good rv? An how far is closet place of your to Biloxi Mississippi
I’m not in sales or currently available for direct consultation with my schedule. I still enjoy FSX models. They are smart in their execution of concepts but I won’t say they’re the finest in terms of fit and finish
So the 2023 models have the the north/south sleeping configuration on the murphy bed? I thought it was a model change for 2024. Just asking. Great review by the way and awesome little camper.
Great videos as always and I love your humor....Does anyone know the differences between the Salem and Wildwood models of this unit, or is it just the color scheme?
I have this unit but 2022 without the slide. Had hail and the roof is terrible. They used thin plywood under the rubber and many of the hail stones penetrated. Going to try to pdr the aluminum on the front. Should have been fiberglass like the sides and back, which held up great. I can rebuild her. We have the technology. Better than new.
Yes. Though this late 23 footage was actually kind of prototype early 24 footage. They’ve changed up their tables and gone to things like north south beds.
Ok... I'll say it... Not a fan of everyone going to the murphy beds... I get it, it gives any trailer more room for seating... But just feels like so many are using them, with some sort of bendy mattress... Just not a fan...
Just answered my own question. Why they didn’t adopt the same Murphy bed set up as the 167RBK. The slide would get in the way of the Murphy bed platform. The 167RBK knocks it out of the park in that respect.
We can't find this floor plan anywhere!! All of the ones we find have that queen Murphy bed going the other direction, and no double wardrobe on each side. Help!
Love the fact that there are multiple seating areas👍but the total lack of storage is a real dealbreaker as there isn’t even enough room in the kitchen for dishes, cups, and pots and pans, and I certainly don’t want to keep my food under my bed in a storage bin😢
Yeah there’s this: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b7-WWQfo0VM.html And then there’s kicking it up a notch m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SnrcBjUD_EM.html
Nice floor plan. I'm hoping you get a chance to review a Kodiac Cub 177RB. Very nice and I can actually fit in the shower. Being 6 foot 8 has certain drawbacks 😆
This would have been a nice camper for when I was in my twenties and my kids were small though I think it is on the expensive side for someone in the same situation. The weights should be ok for a number of SUVs and mid size pickups. The weights are even within the the specs for older body on frame SUVs like my old Explorer. The shower is better than a radius but it is still a 24" one which those of us in the towable market dislike. They need to move the soap shelf to the end or by the shower controls. You should stop wearing white socks unless you want folks to start thinking you never wash them. 😁
It would be nice but the outdoor shower is where the rear door would be. Having the outdoor shower is nice but a rear toy load door would be better. Maybe that's an update they'll do in the future.
