Great build - combining the weld table and brake is sure an original idea. Love the video format - all action and no chatter!

Hey, thanks for watching! The brake/table combo has been super handy in saving space. I don't know how I'd fit it in my little shop if it weren't combined. It's definitely in need of a cover to keep it clean though.

This design and walk through including that cut off saw is one the best videos on RU-vid. BTW I appreciate how you used the design on paper then made that a template. But when you started using the tig I started to get very unhappy because I have never tried to tig weld. That’s it I’m now going to get a tig. Once again this is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen as I have learnt a better way to design my welding table
@PunkerBuilds

Thank you for the kind words! It would have been a lot faster to MIG the table together, but I'd like to weld more stainless in the future so I bought a TIG/stick machine. Even stick welding would have been faster, but it makes too much smoke for my little shop.

Really like it! I think I would make a few changes based off my needs, but I can certainly appreciate the work and thought that went into this build. I LOVE the use of torsion box framing for a dead flat surface. I'm glad Im not the only one that sits there and labels each part even with my own designs. LOVE IT!!!!!
@PunkerBuilds
@PunkerBuilds Год назад
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Sadly it didn't come out flat. I think it's a combination of... 1. I welded the vertical fillets at the intersections of the slats and they shrunk a lot, bending the table and making it convex, and 2. I used twice as many stitches as I probably needed. I still use it all the time but eventually, I'll get the top laser cut with the fixture holes and try again. When I have the extra money that is lol.

@PunkerBuilds woodworking types are using a Parf guide for their dog hole bench tops. If you used the jig and maybe an annular cutter, you could skip the whole laser step.

@@PunkerBuilds Thank you for your reply. Did you make the cutting patterns with this software? because it's really interesting
@PunkerBuilds
@PunkerBuilds 2 года назад
Yup! I try to get all the problems sorted out in CAD before I begin to build anything. The software can make technical/dimensional drawings to work from but its all pretty manual and tedious. For those cope patterns, I was able to 'unroll' the outside surface so it was flat, then printed in 1:1 scale to wrap around the tube. It saves me tons of time. Rhino can make models for 3d printing and files for cnc cutting. It's not cheap but i like it because its a one-time purchase with no monthly subscriptions. I took a class to learn it. The prints to build this table are on my patreon.
@Jump18120

@PunkerBuilds
@PunkerBuilds Год назад
Thanks Timmy! I initially learned Rhino 3D about 10 years ago by taking a class in college. I learned it because it's a common CAD program for jewelers and that's what i went to school for. I carried it over after I became a welder and it has served me well since. It probably took 3 or 4 months to be comfortable in but I'm still learning new tricks. I would reccomended trying fusion 360 or google sketchup - both are either free or have free versions. I haven't used them much/at all but i know people talk highly of them for getting started.

@@PunkerBuilds Thanks for your reply ill be sure to check them out. Learning how to use these programs will take my business to the next level. Are you aware of any programs where you can take a photo, then do some technical drawings on? Like taking a picture of a space then drawing a rudimentary staircase on for your measurements, then going into Cad to design the staircase.
@PunkerBuilds
@PunkerBuilds Год назад
I think the short answer is yes lol. In Rhino, the program i use, its just a command called "picture" and it imports any picture that i can set in the virtual space, manipulate, change the transparency and draw on top of it. The trick is making sure the picture is taken relatively square to thing you're trying to reference. I use it all the time to transfer my pencil sketches into the program, then draw the curves on top. It will be different for each program but i believe it is fairly common.

I assumed it took a while! Nice work. I have no software experience and am a noob at welding but I admire your effort into showing/editing the design/prep/layout, as well as the build. There’re lot of guys & gals doing incredible work out there, off the cuff so-to-speak, but your actual build shows how much time you probably saved not d’ing around with designing on the fly. Nothing more then constructive criticism to say you’d probably find a niche market explaining the design software/prep significance, since your fab is clearly professional. You may help those who actually want to be more then hobbyists by demonstrating how much time is saved ($$$ made) by investing in the prep? Just a stranger’s 2cents! Nice job on the entire video/build. I hope the table serves you well! E-

I appreciate that! I would definitely like to get into the more DIY/explanation type videos in the future - Especially on the design methodology side of things. My background is as a jewellery designer and I've been a full-time fabricator for years now. So PunkerBuilds combines my design background with industrial fabrication experience. As for the software/welding experience, it's all about patience and persistence. When I actually get around to building things, it's usually the 3rd, 4th or 5th iteration of a design. Whether its welding or a new program, it comes down to picking up little tricks, bit by bit, untill you have an arsenal to work with. Thanks for watching! More cool stuff to come! Cheers.

I really messed up when building my table .. I used a wire feed 😳 Hope it holds

There's nothing wrong with wire feed! A good weld is a good weld with any process. I only own a TIG/stick machine and didn't want to deal with all the smoke/soot from stick. TIG was really slow though.

I do intend to post them on my patreon, yes, but I haven't had the chance to revise them yet.

Hi! I have build plans available over on my patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/56084453 This build cost me about $2,200 in material and hardware (including the brake) but prices have gone up since Covid.

Not really, it's dry where I live. I'll get it sand blasted and painted some day but its been a year and it's fine.

Yeah! It's insane. I'm glad I built it when I did because it practically doubled.

Sure, It would have been easy to get these parts cut, but It's also not hard to just zip disc down a plate and blast out some brackets. I'd rather do it myself than pay someone else to.

As soon as I hear all that trade show background noise, I click off. Why anyone would think that this type of noise is exactly what the viewers want to hear?

I might turn down the volume but I tend to WATCH RU-vid for the videos. Thanks for the time and effort put into your content.
