So, I like this episode because it adds Kunikida's character a lot of depth. He is no longer just the strict guy with a moral code and set of ideals. It shows his weaknesses too and how he was completely distraught when somebody died because of him. It is an image of how a lot of "shonen protagonists" can grow up to be. BSD Fun facts: 1. This arc was adapted from a prequel light novel that covers Dazai's entrance exam (similar to the terrorist bomber exam for Atsushi in episode 2) to the armed detective agency. 2. You might not have noticed but whenever they showed the Azure Messanger, he had physical traits which were very similar to Kunikida. The blonde hair sticking out from his mask, and his eyes too. Sakaki does say that Kunikida resembles the Azure king a bit. But the fact that Azure king was voiced by the same actor who is playing Kunikida, I think it is symbolism for Kunikida feeling he was himself Azure King and he was responsible for the death of those officers. 3. Apparently in the book, Nobuko Sakaki is close to the ideal woman in Kunikida's book. And in real life, she was Doppo Kunikida's first wife, marrying him despite her parents' rejection.
Kunikida is written so well. It's such a deep character. He's both super realistic and super idealistic and this paradox brings him on a series of difficult situations. Yep, never as deep as Dazai, but you can't read Dazai at all.
The morality of this show is fascinating because it goes further than 'black and white' ideals. Kunikida and Dazai are the prime examples of this. They seem to be so opposite yet at the same time a lot of their morality blurs together during certain things. The talk of good vs. evil is so well done in this show. I'm glad you're enjoying this show!!!
Bungo Stray Dogs really pushes the lines of justice and puts it into a morally gray area. Just because someone else took a different path doesn't necessarily make them evil, because what they believe what they are doing is good and what you believe they are doing is evil, in reverse but you believe your path is correct and theirs is not, who is really correct? In the end, it sometimes is a fight of good vs good. Ideals and morals are a big part of this story, especially for the growth of Kunikida, whos life revolves around such things. Keep up the great reactions man! You're extremely entertaining to watch and in my opinion, one of the best reactors to this series I've ever seen!
Its one of those things where an idea, in this case ideals, is always a gray area. You have a certain set of ideals that you live by, but when a moment comes that puts your ideals to the utmost test, and you have to choose between sticking to your ideals and sacrificing others vs betraying your ideals for the "right" or "just" action. In both cases, you lose something, whether it be others or yourself. Dazai is trying to save Kunikida by telling him to be more flexible with his ideals, but Kunikida is saying that no matter what happens, as long as he sticks to his ideals, everything will be okay. In a resolution where no one was wrong and yet everything went wrong, you really get stuck
As far as identifying someone recording a video based on reflections I don't know whether that's ever happened. However, supposedly there was some guy who stalked and attacked some idol after identifying a train station they used through the reflections in their eyes in a selfie. Which is pretty close to the same, but so much worse.
I literally just liked all of the comments here hahaha it's really fascinating and fun to see people giving their insights and/or expounding what happened right there. Even for someone who have seen something more than 5 times, it still helps to see things in different perspective and in much deeper wag. You'll never run out of things to know. "what went wrong. Who was wrong?"... bsd is really really definitely among that "something". Also, 7:06same. And not just Kunikida, I've been curious with the nature of the characters' abilities. There's a lot to know about it. Like for the initial part... Heck where did the names of their abilities come from, did they named it themselves or what? HAHAHA nd so on. Altho yeah, its not very much the main point of the story. Still... Very curious :3
I don't remember the first season a lot. All I remember was that s2>s1>s3. But now that I'm rewatching your reactions damn this first season was really deep. Season 2 is a banger tho for sure.
2:58 The faces Atsushi makes are the funniest thing ever😂 edit: I honestly never trusted Sasaki. I started to really suspect her after she talked to Dazai. On the other hand I never suspected Rokuzo xD
These two episodes were really good but honestly after reading the ln they leave a lot out lol. Where's Kunikida pretending to shoot Dazai and Dazai being the one who set the bombs?
In the video the eyes, and the seiyuu was the same (I havent seen the few reactors I've seen so far mention it so??) Though my first thing was that during the flashback explanation in 1x6 where the Azure King is running into a room, I noted that the hair was blond (though I wasnt thinking of Kunikida at the time)
