Indoor Gardening was where I began my interest in plants. I love all of these ideas. Thank you for sharing.

Great topic. The more plants you get the harder it can be to display the plants.

I've never loved anything as much as I love that moss rug! I've loved moss for years, since I converted a section of "lawn" in a shady back yard to a moss lawn. I sourced the moss from around the neighborhood -- from in between sidewalk sections, from decaying driveways, from rocks and tree trunks. Moss needs a gentle sprinkling daily, since it is non-vascular and cannot store or transport water. Outside, it also needs for detritus -- leaves and twigs -- to be cleared away frequently. And, contrary to popular belief, moss likes the sun! It is not found in sunny spots naturally because the vascular plants outcompete it there. I also needed to tack it down at first, and both robins and squirrels were wont to dig it up to get to what was, or what they hoped was, beneath.

Plant display is one thing, but you have to also consider the maintenance of plants as they grow. They may need moving or turning, or pruning, and of course you wouldn't want an infestation of houseplant pests hanging over your bed. I think the bed canopy is really impractical for watering too. Some lovely ideas though in such an interesting video, thank you for sharing it !

As someone who does not have an outdoor garden (yet), this is definitely the kind of content I love (aside from care tutorials etc), there are so few videos I feel about how to use plants in decorating, and a lot of this was very inspiring. I definitely have new ideas for my bedroom and bathroom now :D

Well, I have a love/hate relationship with houseplants. I find them much harder to manage than outdoor garden plants. Even the spider plant is beyond me. The last one to grace our house grew longer and longer and was quite impressive, until I became unable to open the console drawer (the plant was seated on top of the console) without rearranging the various baby sprigs, some of which inevitably caught in the drawer. I began trimming them from the plant, which fought back with a vengeance by producing ever more, and eventually covered itself with mites that persisted until... out went that plant! Then there was the calathea that grew taller and taller and leaned longingly toward the window and outside light, where the sun rising eventually found a way to scorch some of the leaves, which fell onto the table beneath. Nothing like the sight of a scorched calathea leaf sitting on a lovely 70s teak table surface. In a fit of annoyance, I cut the tall plant in two, repotted it in new bark mix, and placed it in the greenhouse to recover, where it sat doing nothing for several weeks, and was thence consigned to the compost bin. So I am not quite ready for the amazing and beautiful multiple plantings featured here. I do like the moss mat, however. Maybe I will have better luck with one of those. :)

I agree with you - indoor plants are definitely harder than outdoor ones but they are very tempting in the winter

I guess that anything that challenges the status quo is useful, though I really can't see this catching on! The juxtaposition of "modern art", as I would call it, with the real world of gardening is quixotic.
@neverlostforwords
@neverlostforwords 4 года назад
Actually, that is my favourite structure in the designs featured. I love the idea of resting my feet in (on?) a moss mat while sitting watching television. But how to stop the grandkids wrecking it by running/walking on it? That could present a challenge! I must look into the concept further.

Plants can be messy and drippy, so putting them over a bed would set you up for maintenance and aggravation. I wouldn't suggest it!
@TheMiddlesizedGarden
@TheMiddlesizedGarden 4 года назад
It was all quite crazy...although I think the plants had drainage wells in the pots.

I honestly wouldn’t care about it being messy because with good baskets it shouldn’t drip. BUT I was more worried about the length of the vining ones because they wear nearly touching the bed and pillows. When we’re sleeping tossing and turning we’re bound to yank those poor babies and harm them. I would’ve much preferred that set up to have been at the foot of the bed where they won’t be harmed and the sleeper won’t be disturbed by plants tickling our noses lol.

I was gonna say those bathroom lights do NOT seem adequate to support the long term health of those plants. I had a four light socket vanity mirror which I placed 4 1850 lumen day light bulbs in and I was able to get Plumeria, Bougainvillea bonsai trees to flower in without any “grow lighting”
@TheMiddlesizedGarden
@TheMiddlesizedGarden 4 года назад
I'm sure you're right. The plants only needed to be in place for a few weeks and I think it was more about giving people ideas than being strictly practical. Day light bulbs sound like a good idea, I will recommend them to a friend.

idk shit about plants! but i loved this video! All though i was wonder... how often do you water your plants, and where do you put the water? and don't get me wrong, but some people put it direct into the dirt/soil, and some put their pot in a kinda of a plate and they put water in the side of the plate? So what do you recomend =)
@TheMiddlesizedGarden
@TheMiddlesizedGarden 2 года назад
Either works but it's a good point, because if you have lots of plants inside, you don't want the water overflowing (especially over the bed). Some pots now have a little reservoir inside for water storage (I think they're called self watering pots, but of course nothing is self watering). Watering varies for the plant (so look up the plant if you know its name) and also there are pots and troughs that make it easier. So it is a bit complicated, but there are solutions out there!

Can I use grasses indoors?
@TheMiddlesizedGarden
@TheMiddlesizedGarden 2 года назад
We've just done this video about bringing outdoor plants inside, which may help although it doesn't specifically mention grasses. The issues are light levels and ventilation, so definitely the only grasses suitable would be those that are happy in low light levels. But I havent seen people do it with grasses, but you could give it a go. Here's the video, which may help you decide: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vYKFpPSjjms.html

Mr Plant Geek is no plant expert when we puts plants in a windowless bathroom. Oh yes it’s an installation and the plants will only be there a week... before they all die. 🤔
@TheMiddlesizedGarden
@TheMiddlesizedGarden 4 года назад
He added a grow light, which helps, but yes, it is an installation so not permanent.
