Everytime I watch your videos, I feel so liberated and full of joy. Thank you Katie, you are a beautiful person, and your art is so beautiful, too.💛💚🧡❤💜❣
I love the idea of just playing around and combining all the mixed media we have and not looking for tutorials right away! It eases up some of the pressure. Always so so inspiring, Katie! Love your art and appreciate you so much! ❤❤❤
You are always so lovely, thank you so much!! 🥰 Absolutely - it just reminds me to have fun and try stuff out, rather than thinking about the 'right' way of doing it! And I definitely don't believe in that when it comes to art 😄
Thank you Jeanette! Yes it's so interesting to me too! I think I have to be more mindful and really 'notice' when I paint or sketch outside, compared to quickly snapping a photo 😊
Love this video Katie, so many fantastic ideas, definitely going to bookmark🤓 I love drawing wildflowers and birds but you have again inspired me to play more with layering different media to create different textures. Your masking fluid greenhouse is both beautiful and inspired😍 Thank you🫶🏼
Your channel is really inspiring me to try out gouache. I have some but have only used it a couple of times. And thanks to this video, I have some ideas for playing around with it!
Such an inspiring video with lots of ideas! I love not only the sketches but also how you make all the great angles and clips which capture them perfectly! So satisfying to watch! 😌❤❤
Fantastic videos as always! Video idea not sure if possible, but I’m really curious on how to pick and choose textures with the color pencils. I get overwhelmed once I’ve put the colors where to go with the color pencils or neocolors. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much, Ungria! Oooh what a good question! I often use them just for details on top, or to add linework etc. For Neocolors I often add it over some lines I've already placed or on areas I'd like to highlight such as the horizon. I'll see if I can explain better and include it in a future video when talking about my process! 💖
This was a great video Katie, I always enjoy watching you paint. I half expected to hear my name when you were painting the fish 😝😂. I admit I fast forwarded through those guys even though the colors were pretty. As always, the video was very informative and helpful to watch, seeing you create using all the different materials. Great job Katie, thanks ❤️❤️❤️
I have the free app 'sketch a day' which gives you a random word each day, it's definitely helped me be more creative, but it's also nice because I don't feel pressured to do a big 'piece'. Some days it's a 5 minute sketch, others it's something I take a bit more time on
Oooh I've not heard of that one, what a great idea! And I think managing our expectations with creating and that 5 minute sketches are ok is so important! 🤗
I love that you said when you get a new medium that you just start playing with it instead of watching tutorials. I do that too because I'm just so impatient to have fun with it 😂 Sometimes I watch videos of other artists using the medium as I'm waiting for it to be delivered because I'm so excited 😅 and that's how I found your channel actually as I was looking up neocolor videos. 😊
Haha thanks so much Katie, so glad you can agree 😂 I'm too eager to just use them!! Oh that's so nice to hear, I hope you're enjoying the Neocolors too!
Thank you for all these amazing ideas! I am so glad RU-vid suggested your channel as I am learning/playing with urban sketching and naturally go to what I call happy colourful sketching 😊
Thank you so much, and welcome! My favourite brush is the size 10 round brush - I love the Daler Rowney Graduate range but most round brushes are equivalent! It's so versatile as it has a tapered tip but also great for laying down big blocks of colour 🤗
Thank you so much! I use Winsor and Newton or Daler Rowney Designers Gouache interchangeably - they are both fantastic and mix well together too! I find the Tombows have a better shade range especially for muted colours, but the Ecolines can be more juicy. I've got a video comparing them on my channel so I'll link that below for you 😊 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6gAbT9cV1Jk.html
Thank you so much! These ones are Neocolor II pastels which are water soluble! I have a video about them on my channel which shows how you can use them so I'll link that here for you - one of my favourite art supplies! 😄 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bp8nkBltUao.html
Out of curiosity, why do you add in the colour palette to the side of your drawing after you have finished it? I've seen people do it before to check whether a particular pen is the one they want or see how several colours will look together - I've also seen people add the name/number of the colour next to the spot so that they can easily find the same colour in future etc, but I don't think I've seen someone just add it on the side afterwards. Did you include all of the colours/mediums you used in those little colour palette swatches?
I know a lot of artists do it to reference and test but for me, it's purely aesthetic! I just love the way it looks and how it adds a little more colour to each spread. I don't swatch every single colour or medium, usually just the main ones and also depending on how much space I have 😊
Thank you for watching! I found it easiest to remove with an eraser! I've seen artists have good success with a putty eraser too. It's definitely easier than just using your fingers to grip it and get that first 'pull'
I'm curious but what books do you use for your references? Because these references are gorgeous!! I'm not a huge fan of using my phone all the time for references so having some reference books where I could just pop in and use it as a physical copy of my reference would be relieving. So if you have any suggestions or if you would like to let me know which ones you used in this video that would be very helpful!! PS This is a lovely video and you are a fantastic artist have a wonderful day!! 💖
I love using books for referencing and having them in front of me rather than a screen! I have two videos on my channel sharing my favourites - I'm pretty sure they cover all the books I used in this video! I'll link them below 😊 And thank you so much for your lovely comment! 💕 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s0ybb_vF4TI.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qKi2BTAoEsk.html
I'm sorry I'm a little confused when you said you'd link the books below did you mean in your video description? Cuz when I checked I couldn't find it. I don't mean to press you about it tho :)
No worries, sorry for the confusion! I linked the videos below my text in my comment reply where I share more info about the books and all the links for them can be found in the description box on those videos! If you have any issues finding them let me know though 😊
