This Video shows how to identify the medicinal turkey tail mushroom, Trametes versicolor, as well as two false turkey tails. Stereum ostrea and Stereum hirsutum may both resemble turkey tails, but are non-toxic look-alikes.
If you take anything away from this video, just remember to look for the pores underneath the mushrooms!
Turkey tails are used for medicine since they have high levels of beta glucans. Be careful when foraging for edible and medicinal mushrooms to make sure you don't pick any toxic look-alikes. Luckily you shouldn't be able to accidentally eat anything too dangerous that's tough, leathery and resembles a turkey tail.
This video does not provide any medical advice, since I'm not qualified for that.
