Don't want to be that guy But I'm pretty confident the 2A8 is just another 2A7 variant. It's being used as a demonstrator model to what the 2A8 might look like or features it might have. KMW haven't publicly showed off any 2A8 and there's no evidence of any true variants of it yet.

I just wonder how the driver gets into the Leopard 2A8. Seems like they have to rotate the turret more to side now.

Just like on previous versions he usally goes in from the commanders hatch and moves to his seat inside the tank. Drivers hatch is mostly used for looking out while driving and in emergencies.

Is there anyone here that is very knowledgeable about tank models and could summarize for me how the Kf51 Panther, Embt, and Leopard 2A8, are supposed to replace each other, or what are the dynamics that are going on between those tanks?

Kf51 panther = test bed vehicle from KMW acting as a proof of concept for a product improved or advancement from the leopard 2 utilizing the new 130mm cannon, unmanned turret, and presumably new armor and electronic suites. EMBT = a joint venture between germanys Rheinmetall and KMW, working with France’s Nexter systems to try to work out a next gen combined effort standardized tank for EU. The basis of which is the Leo2a7 hull utilizing the rheinmetall L/52 120mm gun. Leo2a8 = a direct continuation of the venerable leopard 2 with newer state of the art electronics and optics, as well as the use of the trophy active protection systems. The leo2a8 is a further product improved 2a7v utilizing the same rheinmetall L/55 120mm.

If you're getting shot by another tank, one of the APS radars getting destroyed is the last of your problems. Also, where else would you place it? The APS radar needs to have 360 coverage.

Getting shot at? Just like... Dont be there. Dont be identified. Dont be aquired. Dont be engaged. Dont be hit. Dont be penetrated. Dont die. Hold up, if your radar got shot you already failed the first 4 points of the survivability onion but still have a chance at making the 6th and 7th which at the very least lets your survive and maybe get back to base for repairs.

Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine does not teach Europe anything. The Leopard 2A8 is a good tank, but very expensive, so the German goverment orders only ..... 16 pieces, and that's only because they welcomed the old tanks to Ukraine. are you serious ? And I want to ask the Germans - do you need an army or some expensive toys that you will take to exhibitions? Ukraine had 2,000 tanks, not so technological and new, but a projectile at a price of 1,000 euros will destroy a tank regardless of whether it is a new Leopard 2A8 or an old soviet T72. The number is also important, Europe has already woken up from sleep and illusions of security.

Leopards have performed extremely well in ukraine, and many have surived many hots of deveral type of minitions and mines. The 2A8 will increase the survivability which is what it count on a heavy war environment.

War in Ukraine actually changed a lot of future plans, for exmaple here in Czechia, we will retire our L-159 light combat aircraft fleet in 2035 and we will have only drones and few proper F-35 after that, that seems like pretty big change compared to what people wanted before, pretty much exact opossite - to remove expensive fighters and buy more L-159like airplanes.

4x4 sa uplatnia len v suchých oblastiach. V EU a Ukrajine nie! 4x4s are used only in dry areas. Not in the EU and Ukraine!

T-90 👑👑👑 Leopard is good at exhibitions and training grounds. In real combat, it is no better than the T-64💪 or T-72💪Peacock with a chicken ass

On the front turret of leo2a8 aps trophy is very exposed to snipers anti material rifle or armor piercing round from enemy tank this design is good but in actual combat like tank to tank battle is not good

This is not really a problem because snipers usually don't engage tanks anyway, and even if they do, there is nothing much they can do to the tank. Snipers are no threat to tanks, but missiles are a serious threat that can actually destroy tanks. This is why it has APS, to protect the tank from missiles. You are talking about very unrealistic scenarios that will probably never happen in reality anyway. Tank vs Tank engagements are also very rare on the modern battlefield, because most tanks get destroyed by missiles before they can even see enemy tanks in the first place... And even if it comes to an actual tank engament on the battlefield, hitting and damaging a sub-module is the least problem to worry about, at this point the crew's life is at risk, so surviving the hit will be the most concern....

Sniper who engages a tank, is a dead sniper. Hard kill and soft kill systems are exposed on every tank, you aint gonna be worrying about APS systems if you get hit with APFSDS.

@@ronealbia7721 again, this is a very unlikely and unrealistic scenario. Life is not a video game. It's not very easy to hit a small object at long distance, especially when the tank is moving and the turret is rotating too. Besides snipers have other job to do, mainly to hunt enemy infantry. They have no time for such nonsosne. It would be very unprofessional wasting ammo on tanks.
