Most ballistic missiles reach hypersonic speeds on reentry. If it were a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle or sustained Hypersonic speed from launch then it is something new, which it isnt. Old tech. If that were the case, then israel could call Jericho 3, Jericho 2, Arrow 3 etc all hypersonic cause they reach those speeds in terminal phase 😂
Most of its flight is predictable and supersonic not hypersonic making itnerception easy. What likely happened is it was intercepted exoatmospherically not in terminal phase and broke up into parts

Arrow-2, Arrow-3, and similar missile defense systems weren't built to handle missiles that fly so fast and dodge around easily. These systems were originally made by Israel to deal with older Iranian Shahab missiles. But those old missiles aren't nearly as tough as Iran's newer weapons now. During the True Promise operation, Iran only used Shahab missiles because they knew they'd probably get shot down. After all, that whole thing was just meant to be a big show of force.

Everything eventually gets watered down outside the USA. Stealth becomes stealthy, as in SU-57, and ballistic missiles that travel over 5 Mach become hypersonic. A true hypersonic weapon should be challenging to detect at launch, maneuverable, and travel faster than 5 Machs. Only Dark Eagle and Mako missiles are hypersonic weapons. Most of Russian and Chinese so called hypersonic weapons are either easy to detect or are not very maneuverable.
