It's obvious that they exist. I'm guessing somewhere between 5-20% are either homosexual or bisexual. Normally I'd say 10-20%, but since the sample size is quite small I don't feel quite comfortable with those estimates. To me it's just a pointless thing to care about. I barely acknowledge the existence of sexual minorities, because it just doesn't matter. The only time it does is if I happen to be interested in someone who isn't heterosexual or bisexual. Even then, if they happen to not be interested, better luck next time. I just don't see it as a big deal.

@@CottidaeSEA It's a very privileged place to be that the existence of sexual minorities does not matter to you, that it isn't something that needs to be acknowledged. Yes, it's obvious they exist. But knowing it's true because statistics is not the same as having it openly acknowledged as true. Having it acknowledged that yes in fact there are quite a few LGBTQ people in Korean entertainment might make LGBTQ fans feel more welcome. It makes idols as a whole more relatable to know that some of them are like you. Think about how western fans feel when idols communicate with them in English. Idols really don't have to do that and we have no reason to expect them to do that. But it makes us feel more welcome. It's an acknowledgement that there are fans outside of Korea.

Acknowledge that you might not be in a position to tell people this isn't important. Try to be more open to understanding why this IS important to people. We're not looking for special attention, we're looking for positive representation. Representation matters because it normalizes. It de-stigmatizes. And until the vast majority of people in day to day life are able to treat LGBTQ people as though they're just like everybody else, media representation is going to remain important.
