This is the seventh time I’m sharing Graham Twist’s Idyll on my channel. Why? Because it holds a special place in my heart as an organist. It’s a timeless masterpiece! And it’s a perfect reflection of my journey as an organist who picked up the instrument again in 2021 after a 25-year hiatus.
I woke up around 2 am and instead of going back to sleep, my brain had this crazy idea of playing this piece. I couldn’t resist, so I gave it a try. So, in my midnight sanctuary, I became a gardener of sound, planting seeds of harmony in the fertile soil of silence. The congregation of tones, held in the embrace of the night, transformed solitude into a celebration-an intimate dialogue between the heavens and the earth.
This recording features Sample Set Rotterdam (Marcussen organ Laurenskerk) and has a gentle, comforting tempo. I hope you enjoy it! And if you’re an organist who hasn’t had the chance to play it yet, don’t hesitate to reach out to Graham. He’s the best person to ask!
