Hey, I did a listening test yesterday and i went crazy so i am here. This one is pretty easy. Just let you know guys, in my listening test I heard a lot of times '' JUNCTION '' and it went me crazy, literally. Look it up in your main language. Plus, in the test, the recording will be faster. Damn.
After analysing this video I came up with the following tips, based on my understanding ; 1: Highlight the names and heed the points of the compass. 2: Take the pencil and move it according to the script of the listening in the map 3: Imagination plays an important role in scoring the maximum in Map questions. so just imagine the speaker is talking to you. 4: Practice the map questions from RU-vid - I found it very effective, especially if you are preparing for the computer-based test, it is the easiest way to access tons of exercises. 5: Do heed the comments of the popular videos like this one and probably you would get great people sharing their experience.
@@crissymaralit4821, so I got my result last week (6.5 for listening around 29 correct as I calculated after exam). What surprised me was that they brought a reading passage from one of the previous Cambridge books as the listening questions which was about the coffee production process, this is the one they brought; www.ielts-mentor.com/reading-sample/academic-reading/1024-ielts-academic-reading-the-story-of-coffee. My suggestion would be to first, learn important vocabulary about maps, locations, secondly, practice the Cambridge books ( PDF), finally take notes using pen and pencil not computer notes because each such note taken is a lesson which is, in fact, a mistake you made. And finally, everyday open that note and read and kinda memorise it ,so you understand what mistakes did u make and what not to repeat. In my opinion, Your focus should be more on the multiple-choice questions ( 1 choice or multiple choice) as they are in every single listening exam. Therefore, the probability of map questions is quite low compared to that of MCQs or fill in the blanks.
I used to mark my maps from the last marked building to the next. Now I understand most of the stuffs are marked from the point of entry. Thanks a lot!!
Thank you very much! This is good content for any IELTS test takers! The only time maps really mess me up is when they talk about directions in the terms of cardinal points. i.e. north south east west. I keep getting confused whether the west is meant to be right or left. North and South are easy just up and down. One way how i tackle this issue is remembering that I am Asian and most people who come from the US and Europe are usually coined the term westerners. So it is easy for me to derive that west means left and east means right. Maybe this might help a few people who usually have the same issues remembering directions like me. :)
Ultimate way to trick your brain to understand the mapping is Just visualize in your brain: put a small human on the map and imagine him walking as you listen. I just found this out now. THIS TRICK IMPROVED MY UNDERSTANDING TO THE MAX! like if you find this useful.
Here are many teachers teach us,but Alex you teach us very practically....❤️ Your teaching level is very high.everyone should understand very easily...😍😍
Hi Alex I just want to say that I had tree weeks to prepare for the IELTS and thanks to you also I achieved band 7.5 to all the tasks. Good bless you for all your work. I'm very grateful.
Thank you E2 IELTS for all your help. All your videos are informative and educational. They truly have helped me study last minute for the IELTS test and as a result, I have successfully achieved the score I needed. Thank you for all the help and effort you put into your videos for people like us. 🙏🏻
The given example is too easy... During exam, map section will be really tricky and the instructions will be faster. Always practice with 1.5x speed with instructions. Tip from experience. Hope it helps :)
Great video Alex the way you demonstrates the Map in the second part of the video by moving the cursor with the audio is fabulous... Thanks a lot Alex..👍
Guys this video is no BS at all. Alex, I loved this method of using a pointer (Finger/pencils in exam) on Maps. I saw this video and practices few videos on YT. It greatly helped me on my exam. TY Alex.
I have a doubt. For locating the 'public pool', we were currently at 'I'. And they said , "from where we are now, head right, and take the first left." How would we know if the 'right' is from the west side of I(hotel), and the first left is into 'beach road'? Or How do we know if we need to take the right from the south side of the 'I' (hotel) ? I hope my question is clear.
Thanks Alex, your teaching really simplified maps/labeling practice…was so scared but after this class,my confidence boosted cos I find it easy now reading a map.
How could be the answer is 13 (A)? They mentioned that across the beach heed down the palm lane on your right side that means B,C (right side). Can anyone clear it?
Dear Ma'am I really want to know is why the speed is fast during exam time and normal when we practice..What is the reason for having fast speed ... Plz explain.
Thanks so much, very useful lesson! Actually, I failed to locate only tje public pool. The speaker said: "From where we are now, head right and take the first left etc..". I was considering that I'm on Grover Street, staying in front of turn to Beach Road and gazing at the hotel (I), yet turned out, that I was in front of the restaurant (I). This moment seemed to be slightly ambigious..
SO THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF MAPS 1) WHERE YOU JUST HAVE TO FOLLOW WITH THE DIRECTIONS 2) EVERYTHING STARTS WITH ONE POINT, LIKE TAKE LEFT WHERE WE ARE NOW OR MOVE TO 2ND BLOCK FROM OUR INITIAL POINT I SOMETIMES GET CONFUSED, WHETHER TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS OR TO START WITH INITIAL POINT
Thankyou so much for the tips and i must confess that i could get alot more confident with mapping after watching your video, i could get an 8.5 in Listening.... Thankyou so much again!!
Hi Alex. Can u send me the link for map labelling practice on ur website. I' not able to find it. I'm taking my IELTS exam at the end of this week, so appreciate if you can let me know quickly.
Agree with Mubina. I am having a test in KSA in 2 weeks time from now. The test is GENERAL (Paper based). Would really appreciate if Alex/Jay/Any member of the world's best team (E2) can share some links on L,R,W,R to abbushareef81@gmail.com
Where is the help here, I wonder! It is nothing but just attempting the questionnaire. I am sorry to say but this can't be helping the students who are in dire need of comprehending the vocabulary, sentence structure, phrases, clauses, etc. so that they could know what is being said. This is helpful for only those having trouble finding the navigation. No offense.
Unfortunately, in the real test the speech rate is faster let alone that in computer based making notes is not feasible, it will be a waste of time. You can't even highlight points in the map. Does anyone have a strategy considering computer based test?
i've got 5/6 in this map because speed is too slow here and its too easy to catch for all of us. but i am bit nervous when i face fast speaker for this section even sat a test today evening where i got 2/6 because of bit faster speed of speaker and was too tough to catch for his speed and obviously i'm bit confused about this section
Thank you for your well being and supporting during my speaking exam the way you smiling during speaking test really gives me positive vibes and enhance my speaking and I really feel motivating at that time and I'm so much happy to speak with you thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️
