For me who still learning english, i can easily understand about your pronounciation bcs it is so clearly to heard. Thanks Juva, I always waiting for your new video
Thank you Juva!! This video made me realize that the IELTS was way better for me. I found every single part of the test sooo much easier! Particularly Speaking which was my main concern in the TOEFL. I received my results a couple of days ago and I got a band 8!! ☺️☺️ Thank you for your videos, they have been really important in my preparation
Thank you so much for the enlightment... Iam so dissapointed that I had taken the Official IELTS,, Iam so tired to learn many materials for the IELTS. It was so confusing to me to learn many kinds of the task on the listening, writing, and reading. As soon As possible, I will take the TOEFL Ibt after I have watched your videos. Thank you so much for the informations
Hello Juva i'm from Mexico I need to take either the Toefl or the IELTS in order to get a Scholarship to study outside of the country but de government institucion mentioned in the requirements, "Toefl PBT"? Does this test really exist i think i might be a mistake in the information. which are the Toefl test that exist?
Hello David, so great that you want to study abroad! I am not sure whether this test still exists. I'd recommend contacting the relevant institution and asking them. It's important that you take the right test.
Hi Juva many thanks for your video. Personally, I would like to ask you for a recomendation. I attended TOELF IBT in december, 2020 and I scored 65/120 (R 19 L 11 S 16 W 19). For a posgraduate what I want to study, it asks either minimum score of TOELF IBT 80 or IELTS 6.5. Taking into account my english skills to can get the minimum scores, would I have more advantage to present TOELF again or I could try of IELTS? Many thanks for your help and I would appreciate your comments.
Hi Fabian, I would recommend this: figure out your weaknesses regarding the TOEFL. Then have a look at the IELTS test format and compare it to the TOEFL. This should help you find out which test suits you better. Hope this helps :)
TOEFL ibt 110 vs IELTS with 7.5 overall (7.0 min each section), which one do you find easier? I took IELTS a couple monthso ago, Overall 7.5 (Listening 8.5, Reading 8.0, Writing 6.0, Listening 6.5). Should I keep trying IELTS or give TOEFL ibt a try instead? I find IELTS writing really hard (spent over 10 lessions 1 to 1 private lessons too ...), especially that I have to practice hand writing which is literally physically painful to me :(
Since the tests are quite different it's not easy to say which one you will find easier. But if you found writing really hard and if you prefer typing on a computer, TOEFL may be for you since it's a computer-based test regardless of whether you take the TOEFL in the test center or do the TOEFL Home Edition. Think about whether it would make sense to prepare again for the IELTS given that you already put some work in your preparation and whether you can get better if you invested a bit more time in studying. If you think this doesn't make any sense, choose TOEFL.
@@juva thanks for the tips! I will go all in TOEFL for now. The hardest part in TOEFL is to learn those academic vocabulary to manage the readings and listenings of sooo many lectures
@@56456546fg That's so great that you reached a decision! I wish you all the best for your TOEFL preparation! Yeah, the reading is full of that :D But always remember that you can do it!
Hi, this depends on the university, some accept both, others don't. I'd recommend checking out the requirements of the universities you want to apply to.
@@juva NO. It is universal fact that british english is more accurate and has complex grammar and vocablary and sentences are way more complex to understand. Anyone in england knows this. American english is like street english.
According to your analysis I found TOFEL a lot more easier than IELTS except the reading section. Thank you for giving the detailed comparison between the both tests.
Hello Juva, thank you for this video. In Nigeria, English is widely spoken, we make use of the British spelling of words. e.g Centre, Cheque, etc. would that matter when I'm writing my TOEFL exam?
By the Australian immigration department, the score threshold for the superior English level on *writing* is 30 points (out of 30) on TOEFL or 8 out of 9, on IELTS (does not matter whether it's general or scientific). My question is: which one is more achievable?
Hi, that's an excellent question! I found TOEFL Writing easier because there are only two tasks and the independent Writing task is pretty much freestyle. Many people have commented that they used my TOEFL Writing templates and were able to score 30 in TOEFL Writing. I also scored 30 and I'd say it's definitely doable. For IELTS Writing you must prepare more tasks. However, since you don't need a perfect score, it's definitely not such a pressure. I'd recommend having a look at both writing tasks and figuring out which suits you best. Hope this helps :)
Hello, thank you for your video :) . However, I have a question. I'm planning to get a scholarship abroad (either in a College or in a University), I need the IELTS but I don't know what kind of IELTS I should take. Do you know if the General IELTS is accepted in a College?
Hello Giuliana , I'm so glad you like the video :). I'd recommend asking your institutions which kind of test they require, because this may differ. Usually, they will require the IELTS Academic, but there may be exceptions.
I took TOEFL around 8 years ago and IELTS around 5 years ago. IMO TOEFL is just not a good test of language skills. TOEFL's reading and listening sections are not that easy even if presented in one's native language.
Which test is best for you depends on your strengths. You may find some tasks easier than others. Check out this video where I compare the two tests in detail: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pTjMMnm-kiQ.html
Thanks for the info!! One question, TOEFL 24 on each section or IELS 6.5 each section? It’s for my masters, I received a conditional offer to study in UCL but my TOEFL writting was one point below 😢
I'm so glad you like it 😀. Congratulations on your offer! If you only need to improve your TOEFL Writing score and you only need one point more you may want to consider taking the TOEFL again because you are already familiar with it. Check out my TOEFL Writing videos where I show you strategies on how to boost your score.
Juva, I took TOEFL and scored 82 (R17L19W23S23), which is pretty low as my university requires 94. During listening and reading as people were coming in. Should I retake it or give IELTS a try?
Congratulations on your score! The TOEFL is a huge challenge and you did it, that's amazing. Whether IELTS or TOEFL suits you better depends on your strengths and weaknesses. Have a look at this video where I compare each task of the TOEFL and IELTS: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pTjMMnm-kiQ.html. This should help you make a decision :).
I just had my first TOEFL preparation class and yes...the text is much more longer and complex. I felt as if my English skills were gone. You rally need to focus and be fast with note taking. Then speaking. OMG...you need to put a long sentence in a nutshell. I need to practice for my 2/10 lesson.
You're right, the first time you face a TOEFL test it can be really intimidating. But once you understand how to deal with it effectively, it's manageable. I wish you all the best for your second lesson!
@@AB-qi8yq I'm afraid I can't recommend a particular one. However, if you like have a look at my videos, I cover every topic in the TOEFL in depth giving you tips how to get a high score. To get 90+ your TOEFL needs several 'ingredients' and you will find all of those on my channel. Hope this helps :)
Hi Juva! First of all, thank you for sharing your experience with us. I took the Special Home Edition TOEFL Test a week ago, exactly on 31th August. I put several score recipents, but I am ambiguous about that: is ETS going to send me a score report email with my overall result or I will never be aware about how much I scored?
@@juva Today it's been a week since the exam day. I think it will arrive within two or three other days... Thank you for responding and for your readiness!!
Hi, thanks for making this video Juva. I just had a question in regards to the writing essay section. You said in TOEFL one needs to remember only one structure as compare to multiple structures in IELTS. So I did not get this point of yours. Can you please give some example of it, so I can understand what you meant? Thanks
Hi Ahmed, I'm glad you like the video. In TOEFL Writing there are two writing tasks (the integrated and independent essay). You must know the structure of both. However, the independent is really easy to remember. In the IELTS there are several types of essays that can come up. Depending on the question you get you must answer it in a different way and there are a lot of different questions so that you need to remember more structures than in the TOEFL. Does this help?
@@juva Hi, thanks for your reply. Sorry I am still not clear. As in TOEFL as well you can get the essay on any topic. And if you can give some example for this, may be it can clear up in my mind. Cheers
@@Ahmed-fc8yz That's true. You can get the essay on any topic. However, in TOEFL Writing task 2 the structure is always this one: Introduction + Body (arguments + examples) + Conclusion. In the IELTS this is different: for example, if you get an agree/disagree question the structure is this: Intro + argument 1 + argument 2 + conclusion. If you get a cause/solution question it's like this: Intro + Cause + Solution + Conclusion. Do you see what I mean? Whereas you can always use the same structure in the independent task in the TOEFL, this is not the case in the IELTS. Does this help?
@@juva Thanks a lot Juva for explaining in detail. Its making sense now. :) Can I assume that there will never be a agree/disagree question in TOEFL (Task 2)? Cheers
@@Ahmed-fc8yz I'm so glad it's helpful to you :). There may be an agree/disagree question in TOEFL Writing task 2. If you like, have a look at my video about how to write an introduction for such questions. It may be helpful to you.
Hello :) I'm afraid I don't have any experience with that, so I can't say anything about that. I'd recommend contacting your university and asking them. Hope this helps :).
Generally, TOEFL might be more common regarding American universities, although many also accept the IELTS. I'd recommend checking out whether your university accepts TOEFL or IELTS or both. If they accept both, you can think about which of the two you prefer. Hope this helps :).

Hello juva, Which of these tests is easier to handle for a person who is weak in grammar? your expert opinion is needed. Could you specify any book for grammar to be choosed for study and practice?
Hi :) That's an excellent question! Regarding grammar the TOEFL and the IELTS are similar - you must know the grammar for both tests. I'm afraid you won't get around that. At the moment I can't recommend a specific book. I'd recommend two things: first, have a look at grammar websites or books and pick one you like. Second, familiarize yourself with the IELTS and the TOEFL and figure out which one suits you better by having a look at other aspects apart from grammar so that you can find out which is best for you. Does this help? :)
Hi Juva, I was thinking to take IELTS but after watching your video, I think I am going to choose TOEFL and I even the books for it. Thank you. Do you teach preparatory courses for TOEFL?
Hi Rita, I'm so glad you have found the test that fits you best 😀. I currently don't offer courses, however, you can get TOEFL study materials (templates, full sample answers, vocabulary, and much more) here: juvastore.sellfy.store/p/toefl-all-in-bundle/ I hope this helps!
I'm so glad you like the video 😀. If you want to learn American English I recommend watching movies or listening to English. Just to say, you don't need to speak American English in the TOEFL, your accent doesn't matter. The same is true for the IELTS.
Hello madam I did toefl exam twice and still my marks are not good (Reading :18,writing:20,listening:12,Speaking:23) And overall I scored :73 What should do now Should I do ielts or toefl ? Confused It would be grateful if you could help me on which test to take

Hi Juva! Thank you for this video! I’ve been really frustrated with my Toefl speaking, my biggest weakness is its restricted timing (I find the whole time management business really hard). Would you recommend the IELTS Speaking in this regard? I read about it and it seems easier. Also, can you recommend resources for preparing for the IELTS in short time? Thank you!
Hi Camila, I'm so glad you like the video :). TOEFL Speaking is a challenge, especially because of the time constraints. In IELTS Speaking, you are timed as well, but the speaking test is nevertheless very different. Have a look at this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pTjMMnm-kiQ.html. Hello Juva, a question regarding the writing section of the TOEFL is there a words limit or we can write as much as we can and how long does it take to be prepared for TOEFL Exam I'm planning to take it next week is it enough or should I postpone it for later your videos are extremely helpful thank you so much
Hello Moh'd, there is a word count in the TOEFL but it's a minimum requirement, so you can write more than that. Regarding your second question, this depends on your current level of English and the score you want to achieve. If you are fluent in English one week is sufficient, you just need to understand the test format so that you know how you have to answer the questions. I only prepared for one week and this was doable. Hope this helps :)
@@juva Thank you so much it does help, I did the Cambridge English test 4 years ago for my university and I scored B2 back then and I think that my English has improved a lot since
I took the toefl last month and it was so hard and difficult to me because listening is not clear therefore this aspect did affect integrated tasks, hence, if I would take IELTS could be a good option?
IELTS also has a listening section, so you should figure out whether IELTS Listening is easier for you. I'd recommend checking out the practice tests on the official IELS website. They give you a good insight into what IELTS listening is like. Hope this helps :).
TOEFL is far more difficult than IELTS. Why? Because corpus analysis of hundreds of TOEFL tests shows that its lexical universe consists of 16,736 words. The lexical universe for IELTS is a mere 5,781 words. That means that every TOEFL test will have about 4,000 different words on it and the 4,000 will be from among the universe of 16,736 words. Every IELTS will have less than 3,000 different words on it and they will be from among the 5,781 words that make up the IELTS universe.
@@juva Hi Juva, Thanks. If you are curious, I just gave a presentation at at TOEFL Summit sponsored by ETS among others. Check it out... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5IUBJcg4iBA.html
Hi :) The TOEFL and the IELTS both measure your level of English. However, it is a good idea to prepare before, as you are likely to get a better score if you practice the tasks.
Hi Keval, I'm afraid I have no experience with immigration to Canada, so I can't say anything about that. I'd recommend contacting the relevant institution and asking them whether your TOEFL Speaking score is sufficient.
I think that I will stick to what I’m used to. Which is TOEFL, because I’ve already taken it multiple times and I’m accustomed to it. I need to work on my reading cause I’m a slower reader and I space out! The other thing is my writing. I always score 20!! I don’t want to start learning new writing strategies. Thank you for the insightful coverage of the two exams!
I'm so happy you liked it. If you're used to TOEFL, this is reasonable because you already know the test format. I know what you mean, the reading section is a race. If you want to work on your writing, feel free to have look on my video about tips for scoring 30 in writing.
Hi :) It depends on your current level of English. If you are advanced, the only thing you need to do is practice the test format and then you should be able to get 26 in TOEFL Speaking.
Hi, I'm sorry to hear that. You could consider trying it again: Think about which things were particularly hard for you and try to work on that. Alternatively, if the IELTS is an option for you, you may want to have a look at that to see if it suits you better.
I'm afraid I have no experience with that so I can't say anything about it. I'd recommend checking out relevant websites to see whether this is possible.
