Merchant of Venice is a nostalgia for many ICSE students and hopefully I will not forget some of the remarkable lines from this beautiful work by Shakespeare for years
Haha yeah. There are some people in my school (ICSE) too who speak in all those fake accents. they think too highly of themselves and feel like they mastered English. I mean it isn't an American OR a British accent they just stress certain words and suddenly they have a vERy mODerN acCent. They just embarrass themselves and don't even get 80+ in literature OR grammar exams🤦♂️🤷♀️
@@anir_2022 yeah...but in my school it is mendetory to speak English in school premises and so every one speaks English. And because of that as we speak fluent English ( most of the students) we have a slight accent...I don't think it's bad though
I studied BOTH- ICSE till class 10th and 11-12 CBSE. Both the boards are so different in approach and education. I loved Merchant of Venice and it set my life long love for literature.
Hehe. This is funny. I studied both boards but ICSE is way more than just English, we studied topo maps, computing languages like java and had a very elaborate science curriculum too..CBSE has a relatively concise syllabus that is more objective. I guess both the boards are unique in their own ways
As a kid who shifted back to India after staying in the US my whole life, and has an accent, and goes to an ICSE board school, this is exactly how my friends have explained CBSE board.
the ones who try to speak with unpracticed accent thinking they look smart but just end up making a fool of themselves by mixing both american and british english are the worst ones. im from icse and i have seen this one too many times
Us ICSE students know how good it is for practical knowledge. Sure, it is stressful to study many subjects, but its always fun and useful to learn out of the box and informative aspects! Merchant of Venice is taught for two years (one book is taught for 9th and 10th in continuation), so it won't feel like much of a pressure. I am truly a literature lover myself, and drama in school has helped me be better and know better. I am leaving the school this year and its the saddest thing. Being able to learn drama, taking part in so many co-curricular activities, History/Civics and Geography, Economic Applications, (since I'm opting science for further studies) and most importantly being able to write our own answers is just a shortened list of things I'll truly miss! ICSE always wins!
Same, even though I can understand certain things, I don't think ICSE is that very much superior in standard., I think have studied in both ICSC and WBCHSE . I can clearly state that the latter is much better!
I was in ICSE till my 10th and then shifted to CBSE for classes 11 and 12 ....and yeahh I could see a huge contrast in both learning process and curriculum ..am not gonna elaborate everything or discriminate ...but ICSE always wins for me for sure !!♥️
Same here! From writing essays and studying Shakespeare in ICSE to writing matrimonial ads and drawing birthday invites in the CBSE English exam. 😁 CBSE teacher said there's one mark for drawing balloons on the poster. 😆
@@surbhiahirwar8298 sat you can clear with 3 weeks of studying even as a cbse student whereas jee you need your basics to be very strong so basically whole 11th 12th
Well , I have a CBSE background, took up English as my subject and now by God's grace m doing my PhD on the same. I think it's more about individual inclinations and efforts.
How about all the mango aunties coming together? And then the alphonso being the absolute QUEEEN and spoilt lol, and only gucci zara since alphonso is so costly. And badaam, kairi, etc etc staring at her😂
Being an ICSE n ISC student ,I've never regretted studying in this board. And Merchant of Venice, The Tempest led me into reading books. I'm proud that I studied in ICSE . Also, loved ur video Dolly as always. ❤️
@@shivangsrivastava4522 what is with all the hate and why so mean? We are ICSE students and we love our board. I was in state board till 5th standard and I love that too.
Omgg....when she said act 1 scene 2 line this or that of merchant of Venice...all icse students must have felt honoured.. 😂💯 And soon tempest as well 🦋😂
No... Like it's still easy as shylock didn't say that much in it like just some references of fawning publican and other.. But act 3 scene two has got some crazyyyy sh*t on their. It gets me in "melancholy "
I am in ICSE but just for a 1 day...like tomorrow is my last board exam and i m gonna join cbse.. ofcourse IIT ke liye cbse is going to help...but the thing is that... ICSE teaches us everything from the very beginning..like same thing from the very small age which makes it habitual and we really don't feel any burden...and that's not the case in CBSE..like they teach them everything at once...for example trigonometry...we have been doing that since class 9th and that's why it's actually not a burden..but in cbse they have trigo in class 10th and everything seems long and complex...even in chemistry...we have done balancing and atomic no. And stuffs like these from class 7th and 8th but in cbse they have these things from class 9th...and therefore they take time to understand such simple things which we have been doing from such a small class Well both are good in their own way ICSE is best to make a strong base And CBSE is best for IIT and NEET
Cleared class 10th in 2016 with having merchant of Venice! There's not been a day I've uttered 'fie fie' Still remember a few sentences very vividly. "In sooth, I know not why I am so sad. It wearies me, and this sentence ends by I have much ado to know myself ❤ ICSE has legitimately brought forward my hidden love for literature ❤❤
CBSE student's can relate to Julius Caesar I still remember the beginning of the play Ceaser- Nor heaven nor earth have been at peace tonight.. Like my English teacher would choose random students and ask them to stand in front of the class and read it out loud for everyone and for this specific drama that went on and on till everyone in our classroom got a Chance to read at least once cuz this drama was very imp for our board exam & also because she wanted to give a Chance to every student
Breaking this stereotype is what matters. I switched from ICSE to CBSE in 9th for the sake for admission security in 11th 😂 gawd! Leaving my lovely life in ICSE was TOugh tho! Missed those 2 amazing years 😭
OMG it's legitimately true that in ICSE they give lot importance to each and every subject no subject is like that we can ignore. But as it is said you have to be unique to be the best. 😎
It depends on the student if they want to focus on a few select subjects or take up everything with equal interest. No board gives and will never give special importance to any particular subject.
@@kumarvigyat1195 It depends on the institution you're applying for. Like in case of JEE ,they consider the aggregate of all the subjects, no matter 5 or 6 or what so ever. Best of five is not the always the case
Every ICSE : CBSE cn never beat us in our accent. Meanwhile new education policy "what's the big deal?? vernacular education toh nhi mili na.. therefore still an illiterate 😝😝😝😝 Ab aap ICSians ki dukane toh band ho jayegi..😆🤣🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 #CBSE the best.
I am an ICSE student and I am proud to be but yaa every person have different type of perception about board.and yaa merchant of Venice is a very interesting novel you all have to read it.
I am a cbse student and read that play/novel named as merchant of venice so it doesn't matter what matter is brain icse ka course laake RU-vid se padh lo bhai dono bann jaoge a guy with an accent and savage replies like a cbse guy😂
Dude this was so accurate I won't ever forgive my parents for making me suffer through 8 marks long answer questions in our English literature papers..also obviously the thing that we had to study the entire merchant of Venice along side other 20 shorty stories and poems when the cbse ones were getting multiple choice for word meanings....what the actual fuck was that really.
Yes obviously cbse compares with icse that shit icse having so much literature , will that give u job or help u for upper studies no , and u r saying cbse shit , no one gives a damn abt icse literature in America or anywhere
@@sameekshasrivastava2638 my parents do that, you know they compared me with a cbse student (who was a topper in his class) if I was in cbse board then I would've been topper I just remember how easy his books were, such that I can study them in a day only and score full marks
I too studied both.. (actually still studying 😂 CBSE 11th) but I will say that no book publisher can ever beat Selina Concise... They are every icse student ki jaan!! 🤧 Edit: I may sound boardist... So sorry for that.. I HATE NCERT.
Your English seems broken.... *Who says only ICSE students have an accent? I was in a CBSE school and i do have a good vocabulary with accent, ofcourse cause of all the English teachers that I've had.
Proud to be a CBSE and ICSE student BOTH at different episodes of my life !!!! Excellent idea and presentation completely mesmerized by you Dolly ..pls post frequently.
Shakespeare ki likhi huyi stories aur drama padhne ke liye ICSE board se belong hona jaruri nahi h, you can read them from anywhere (Library) . BTW we also had Julius Caesar in our class 10.
Bro cbse students had Julius Caesar, Gulliver's travel, Hellen Keller, Centerville Ghost, Invisible Man, etc which also contained equal strong English in it. So both the boards are equally strong in this subject {English}
CBSE- I am hungry, can i get food please? ICSE- Let it be known that my stomach is grumbling and i need some edibles to make it stop. WBSE- *grabs food*
@@faizahmad8476 👍, although i must say, as you like it was one of the worst of shakespeare that we had to read. Even he himself did not bother to give it a proper title, rightfully so. I dont know why we were made to read that. I hope Much ado about nothing was a better experience. 🤣
@Aditya Dash Why nope it's true,CBSE Fees charge 9000 for Each installment while ICSE charge like 30,000 because I was Once an ICSE student,We can save 21000 And spend it for Electricity bill.
I never regretted being an icse student... Even studying 12 subjects seemed fun then... My cbse sister on the other hand had drawings and stories in her math book until 8th grade...
drawings in math books... a dream tbh. i remember turning the same brown and white concise math textbook for 10th and crying in misery because of the monotony 😞
@@carloversjaihind5772 yup! In sooth means in actual or truly I don't know what is the reason for the birth of this unknown misery and sadness and where it came from! And this is making me ponder upon my sadness to know it's reason.
@@carloversjaihind5772 actually it's the first dialogue in the whole play of Merchant of Venice in which Antonio( the protagonist) is very sad without knowing why is it so! Then his friends Salarino, Salanio try to give various aspects to his "unknown melancholy". So she mentioned it as that's the first dialogue of the wholeeee book
Literally! English is getting overrated in our country. I mean, literally most of the parents of my classmates prioritise English over other subjects, and a lot of people( including wannabe Actors/Actresses too) don't even know how to speak proper hindi, they act like fucking wannabes ; always trying to imitate the western culture and that's literally why so many kids these days don't even know the literal beauty that lies within our culture. Goodness, we need to preserve our culture from these degenerates !
@Ananya Jain listen, I get your point. Lol, didn't you see the irony of me literally typing in English? I admit that English is important but c'mon just look what's happening to our culture bcs of some wannabe clowns 🤡 oof 🤚
Till Class 3 - ICSE Till Class 10- State Board In class 11 (for one month) - CBSE (Being a jee aspirant, I wanted to switch to something more "halwa") In Class 11- State Board 😂😅😂🤣
My siblings and I were ICSE students till our tenth standard. The eldest one among us studied "Julius Caesar " for drama while I had "As You Like It " whereas the younger one learnt "Merchant of Venice ".
I have had the taste of different boards in different flavors. 1-5: State Board (Urdu Medium) 6-7: State Board (English Medium) 8-10: ICSE 11-12: (Back to state board)
@@views785 I think almost all states have Urdu Medium. In my state, the Maharashtra State Board is offered in Marathi, English and Urdu medium. Content is same just language differs.
When she told that her son is trying to figure out the meaning of Merchant of Venice Act 1 Scene 2 line 145-153 .....I went to search which lines she is talking about 😂😂
As a CBSE kid I would 100% agree that the standard of English curriculum in CBSE is abysmally low. I realize this because I love reading novels and classic literature. Like imagine being an ICSE kid transferring to CBSE in 10th grade and you go from deciphering Shakespeare to reading ranga's marriage? WTF. Gives me second hand embarrassment and it's hilarious. I'm a 12th grader and I want to read all of the ICSE English curriculum books just for the ego (yeah I'm that petty) 😭😂
@𝖆𝖑𝖎𝖆 bro/sis I'm from cbse and it's not any saas bahu drama ,I mean I get that icse have high standard literature but in our literature they teach many moral values and it's not like every chapter has marriage story but I suggest u to stay in icse cause it might lower ur standards
@𝖆𝖑𝖎𝖆 it's not really saas-bahu shit. It's a story based on pre independence era where an accountants son gets sent off to a city for education, and it's a big deal in the village. And so when he returns the villagers and basically everyone tries to get him married and the whole story resolves around ranga changing his mind from the fact that the Western courting tradition is better than just marrying right away to alright fair I'll get married to the girl you choose for me. *The only thing that irked me however*, the girl is literally 11 fucking years old lmao. And that is not even some plot twists. They just mention her age like 'yeah, she's 11 years old and very shy' like WTF. but thankfully this story is the only standout lol. I'm not sure if I'm able to explain properly so you might just read it yourself and cringe in person.
@𝖆𝖑𝖎𝖆 however, don't base your decision of transferring to CBSE on this alone. CBSE is obviously better for career, college and competitive exams prospects. It's only english that you'll compromise on a little, and 12th CBSE English and poems are good enough and not as bad as 11th so dw. You can always compensate for english by reading novels and other literature. CBSE science and mathematics is by no means an understatement! And I'm not even a science student, I'm from the commerce stream but Good luck! :)
@𝖆𝖑𝖎𝖆 man I'm in the same boat! It's not really my decision tho, my folks want me to. My father is a CA, so they think I should be one too. I might just drop out after intermediate idk. I'm worried about the same thing: less passing percentage and possibility of wasting years and years. I'm not even passionate about Accountancy. About your question: your board doesn't matter in CA. It doesn't even require that you do your 11th and 12th from commerce stream. But if you do choose commerce stream, when you apply for the internship (the 3 year internship period) in big 4s they do consider your 12th percentage. So if you're sure that you want to do CA you might as well continue with ICSE board. In any case, if you've just passed your 10th then I hope you choose mathematics as your optional subject! Very important. I made the mistake not to. Best of luck :)
I'm neither CBSE nor ICSE but in my private school life I had experienced both patterns. Education is never about easy or hard it's about knowledge understanding by practical observation.
I studied in CBSE. But I think every child should have access to ICSE. Not because of High Society Standards. But because ICSE trains the child to be way forward from their competition. Their benchmarks are very high which CBSE or State cannot match. Any point of time they are 2-3 years ahead in curriculum. I have seen the success rates of ICSE students.
It might be that CBSE is somewhat convenient for IIT and other national exams, but ICSE and ISC has way better exposure to English and other different subjects & better curriculum too. Also CISCE is international. I love my board and love my curriculum.
@@tanmay7765 same here. You are spitting facts. CBSE is kinda led by the gov, so of course its easier, but doesn't mean its better. We love our CISCE board .
No.. everyone should study icse till 10th bcoz it is really more informative than cbse but cbse is good for 11th and 12th to excel in competitive exams..
