Ok. Serious talk here. I apologize for going on a rant, but this genuinely needs to be said. In 7 days there have been 5 people that have whitewashed Miruko, and in the entire month about 10. That is INSANE. Most people blame it as an accident/mistake, but there is genuinely something I do not understand. How do you make all the characters, take the screenshots, and edit them into a video without even realizing the mistake you have made? When making an OC, the first thing you should be cautious of and make sure you get right IS the skin colour. In my honest opinion, there is no legitimate reason for why people don't make her skin colour the way it should be. Even if it was an honest mistake, how do you go that far without even realizing once, if we as the viewer can see a mistake that quick, then how couldn't you all as the creator realize the mistake as well almost immediately? This is NOT a hate comment, but just something I feel like I should put out there.. To add on to the whitewashing thing, I feel like I should also say the same thing with making a white character black, also known as a 'made-up' term blackwashing. The both of these are not ok and shouldn't be normalized as such, people claim that it's ok to make a white character black since it's adding poc characters. But, you are changing a person's race.. I get that there isn't as much poc characters as there should be in anime, and I get that it comes off as discrimination, but blackwashing is NOT the answer for that. I feel that a lot of people are normalizing the act of blackwashing considering it's "adding poc to characters," but a lot of people are forgetting that it too is not ok. The one major flaw I've been seeing is the fact that people are implying that blackwashing is ok while whitewashing is not even though the terms are doing THE SAME THING just the opposite, long story short, you shouldn't be changing a characters race no matter the situation. I get if it may be a mistake, but still though..
