In this video, I take a look at what would happen if the Earth's atmosphere froze, primarily the focus is on estimating the thickness of the ice layer that the atmosphere would form if it froze.
Intro was made with Space Engine.
Molar masses and volumes for DiNitrogen and DiOxygen were gotten from the site aqua-calc.

Enjoyed the video...but it brought back memories of my trying to understand physical chemistry in college. For some inexplicable reason, I could never understand or visualize 'mols.' However, at least, I could follow how you progressed through your calculations.

Ive been asking this question for a while in terms of atmospheric stripping causing extinctions. Thanks for the video. Wouldn't the oceans sublimate somewhat before they became solid? The 9m thickness seems pretty thin.

The oceans would be covered in a thick crust of ice (which is less dense than water), and Earth will then resemble moons such as Europa, Titan and Ganymede, which have oceans underneath their surface. Yes in time it might freeze to the bottom, but such will take many millions of years, and that is putting aside geothermal warming, tidal forces, and radioactive decay, which all produce heat.

You can read it for free online. :) (I assume there's at least a few other stories that deal with that too; that's just the one I happen to know of. i wasted 8 minutes of boring mathematics to get the answer i want. 9.2 meters, more or less could have skipped the math next time. just provide your sources and math in the description or something.
