If God Knows Everything, Why Does He Test People? | Little Lessons with David Servant

Today's question is a great one because we have passages in the Bible that talk about God testing people in order to find out what was in their hearts. One example that stands out early in the Bible is when God tested Abraham and it actually says God tested Abraham. He told him to go sacrifice his son, Isaac, up on a certain designated mountain. When Abraham lifted his arm to slay his son, the Lord stopped him of course and said, "Now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me" (Genesis 22:12). Learn more in today's Little Lesson!

God knew everything in our hearts before we were born. The decisions we make is based on our heart condition. He knows this. He tests our faith not to see if we’ll be faithful. He knows if we will or won’t. He’s all knowing and all things work according to His will and plan. He tests our faith to strengthen our faith. Your faith is strengthened the more it’s tested. James 1:2-4 says “Testing of your Faith produces steadfastness “ Romans 5:3-5 says suffering produces endurance and character “ We have free will but God knows what we will do. We just need to go through it so we can learn to draw close to Him. God knew Jesus was going to suffer at the cross and endure our sins in His body, yet it still had to happen. He even hardened pharaohs heart after sending Moses to tell pharaoh to set His people free. Exodus 9:12

God could create a universe with a pre-known future or an unknown future... he could create a predestined future or one that is determined by our free will. God says in the text, “Now I know...” That seems to indicate that he didn’t know beforehand. You may not like that, but my feelings and yours are both irrelevant. If you think that God can’t attain new information, why did God say what he said in the narrative? Perhaps I’m misunderstanding it. I just don’t think it’s fair to label something ‘crazy’ when it appears to be coming from the text of the book you seem to base your faith on.

@@thomp6402 It means God isn't omniscient. Period. The only way to answer this is to assert God has the ability to choose what to know, but Jesus knew he'd be forsaken didn't he? There was no talk of "Oh, I don't know, variables might sway Judas or Peter, etc." Infact the amount of variables from when the prophecy was made are innumerable, and yet everything played, to the T. God is indeed omniscient, as such a power accounts for variables. So forget everything in this video, what needs to be addressed is the ultimate question, the test itself. An examiner who knows the results of the student beforehand still gives the student the test. IF we assume God chooses not to know the result, we still have the problem of statistics - the examiner/God is aware not everyone is going to pass this test for a number of reasons. The problem then is the punishment God has in place for those that he created, knowing some indeed would fail - irrespective of omniscience being used or not. infact this challenges omnibenevolence, too. A mother is less likely to have hell as a place for her child (even if he was evil incarnate) than God is. The love of a Mother > the 'Love' God/Examiner has for those he knows could/will fail - as he's not foolish enough to believe there will be an 100% success rate, Hell wouldn't have been created, otherwise.

Sorry, this apologist got it wrong. God is supposed to know everything that will ever happen. He's supposed to already know Abraham's heart before he was even born. God can't be "all-knowing" if he needs to test someone. And what kind of sociopath tests a father by commanding him to murder his own son? I just know that people like this guy would find a way to justify it if God allowed Abraham to murder Issac. In Abraham's heart, he'd already murdered his son for God. That's a sick thing to make someone live with.

You are mistaken about God's omniscience. He DOES KNOW all possible decisions we are going to make. He doesn't interfere in our freedom of choice because we can choose to love him and glorify him willingly, that LOVE. This is a fallen world and there are many natural obstacles and GOD's will has to be done no matter what. This world in its fallen state is merely preparation for God's eventual plan to include us in his family. But your understanding of Gods infinite omniscience diminishes God. If you have chance study AI and what we computer science call pruning trees. Thats his level of knowledge. Do you know God is so powerful he can Get his will done even through our free will. So the tests on Earth is for us, to grow and strengthen our faith, part of sanctification or the process of becoming holy.I know you are trying to simplify God's but be very careful of the soteriology, you essentially talking about creeds that leads to free will vs predestination which is not a 7 minute discussion.

The only problem I have with this is that the bible is clear that God knew us since the foundation of the world (Eph 1:4), and God speaks the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). In fact, John had visions about the final end times (revelations). I thought much about all this also, and I concluded that if we can always make our own decisions that God has to test, then He can cannot possible know us in advance from the creation of the world, since my mother, facing death, could have aborted me instead of risking her life (true story). He would have to know in advance the choices of all people up to my birth before he even knew I would be born! lol ;) Makes no sense to me. Makes more sense he does know the end from the beginning. The only thing God doesn't have yet is the "experience" of it. In other words, if you recall when God was "grieved" he made man before the flood came, I believe He KNEW this was coming, but the *experience* of it was still pending. ;) Just like I knew a friend of mine would pass away while I sat at his death bed, but the experience when it did finally come to pass really hurt, though I knew it beforehand.

You are 1000% correct. I think God is experiencing his knowledge to the fullest since in him is infinite potential. I have thought about experience vs knowledge. For God to be God he is But for him to be the son of God and crucified for our sins and receive glory, HE HAS TO EXPERIENCE IT. So I think God is one mind with infinite potential experiencing all that he can experience, forever.

1:03 because god is a joke. All of existence is pointless but religion tries put meaning into this, but fails miserably. "If there is no choice ever made, how will god know that?" Skips the question altogether. God does NOT need to test us, or try us. Because HE KNOWS THE CHOICES THAT WE SHALL END UP MAKING and these choices SHALL determine if we end up in heaven or hell, so all if this is already destined to end up the way it shall. Sb once said that if god shall not put us through life, and we do not make these choices, then we can ask him on the day of resurrection that this was not fair... bro, its not fair anyways, even if you are going through life to end up in hell because you made xyz choices, or if you DID not ever go through life and ended up in hell, its the same. Because god always knew what the end outcome of all your decisions was: hell. So a god claiming to be all knowing and loving is simply a joke. With the biblical account of the day of judgement. Have a nice day.

this phrase can be understood as anthropomorphic language. In other words, it’s a way of speaking about God in human terms to convey a deeper message. When God says something "did not enter His mind," it doesn't mean He was unaware or surprised. Rather, it's an emphatic way of stating that the act was completely contrary to His will, nature, and character. It was something so detestable that it was as if it were unthinkable from God's holy perspective. God's omniscience is not in question here. The phrase "nor did it enter My mind" is best understood as a rhetorical expression, highlighting the extreme departure of the people from God's will. It conveys that such evil was never part of God's intentions or desires for humanity. This language is meant to underscore the gravity of the sin and to emphasize that it was entirely against everything that God stands for.

Hi David! Let's start again. "I don't know if X happens, because Y happens instead" is still God displaying omniscience. In fact, in your own football example on the blog site, God proves he can indeed know what does or doesn't happen because of 'variables'; God says he cannot tell the athletes the football scores (and save them their troubles) as the act of them doing so means no game is played in the first place. On the contrary, God's response would actually be "Y happens, therefore is no X". There is no "I don't know" for God. You agree with this as you yourself state God knows Y invalidates X. I wanted to use this example first because in your Abraham story you state God could not account for the variables, when we know omniscience renders that statement false. God knew EXACTLY what was going to happen, the same way he knew Adam & Eve would eat from the tree, and Lucifer would betray him. Omniscience, as it suggests, does indeed account for variables. This is why Jesus knew Judas, and eventually, Peter, would forsake him - there was no mention of "this may or may not happen, though, 'IDK!" lol Let me give you and viewers a more concise analogy that will beautifully illustrate the fatal flaw with omniscience: An examiner has a test that he gives to the pupil. This examiner is special as he knows what the result is, therefore the test is invalidated, PERIOD. Life itself being the test isn't just something we humans can 'pass' on, and just ask God to "save us the trouble", therefore canceling the test; this 'test' is MANDATORY! :] (Your football analogy isn't an adequate one for life, I'm afraid). Finally if we settle for a God that chooses when he can use his omniscience it means he's smart enough to know this test will not have a 100% pass rate, while it may seem fair to you/God that via free will those who don't pass deserve eternal torment, he has created humans with that knowledge in mind. This challenges his omnibenevolence, in that a mother is LESS likely to have Hell as a punishment for her child (pedophile, serial killer, rapist, mass murderer, etc) than God is. You may call it "folly" a Mother will know its love for her child, which apparently is greater than God's "Omnibenevolence" for his own! Be well David.

You missed the boat on this one, David Servant. Your explanation was shaky and unconvincing. If God doesn’t know everything, surely you must realize that you don’t know everything either. Say you don’t know when you don’t know, rather than rambling incoherently. Your credibility is always on the line, Brother.

If this was correct, biblical prophecy would be at best 50-50. God knows the end from the beginning. One thing God cannot do, God can’t learn. He who learns from the test is you. What am I made of? Will I trust God through the test or trust the world? Choose this day whom you will serve.

What you say rings true to me, but are you really saying God doesn't know everything? If he dose not know the outcome until the action is preformed, is that not the same as you or I? The difference would be that God can understand the outcome on a much deeper level than we, not that God knew the outcome. Otherwise what you seem to be saying is pre destination, all of are actions are already know before we ever make them.

a muslim here, with respect to all my christian friends! i think this is wrong. this seems reasonable with our world rules and maths. but god is not dependent to "time". time is something defined for us and our world but god is out of the limitation of time! he is in all times. "cause and effect" is something created for our world, not for god. so theres no need to an cause so something happened in future time so god would know it, no! he is also in that future time, and knows the effect already!

God knows our 💓 heart, we get tested so that we know our heart. Actions, not words. With their lips, they are near me, with their Heart's there Gone from me. We are not Free, we are not Moral, & a AGENT repersents someone else.

David, you did not answer the question in the title. You say (paraphrasing) that future outcomes known by Yahweh in advance are not available to him until after they happen. Just say that to yourself a few times slowly. Are you really doing Yahweh justice by saying that, or are you a false witness? Think. Be honest with yourself for one minute.

I am so scared of god I know he gave me anxiety why ? I think he did it because if I never did suffer from it I would be in jail or doing something bad. But I know he is done with me see what was about to come know he can heal me??

God knows all things that exist, the future does not exist... yet. God said after creation," It is good", then few pages later God says," I regret I even made man, I will destroy them all" Safely conclude, God didn't expect this, otherwise God wouldn't bother to create man in first place. Judgement seat after mortal death is such, to see what people do, good or evil, as the future unfolds. Future is a light yet shined and that light cannot be extinguished

Indeed Christianity was true religion sent down by God through Isa (CS) and they tried to kill him but God save him and he will come back again, calling you the true and only religion sent down after Isa Islam through Mohamed (CSWS). May Allah guide us all the right path

Study the life of muhammad and read *for yourself* what he believed and taught (although a lot of the modern translations have been whitewashed to remove many of the offensive truths). His life-according to islamic sources-is full of sexual scandals, abuse, hypocrisy, delusions, suicidal attempts, cross dressing, pedophilia, historical and archaeological inaccuracies and lies, violence, racism, assassinations…that filth and absurdity that characterize his life and “ministry”…is proof that his behavior is one of a man demonically possessed and led. Look at the state of every single muslim country…people (especially women) have no freedom and are miserable (even if wealthy). Compare it all to the absolutely perfect, sinless and miraculous life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Islam is a cult and I truly encourage you to read and learn about it without fear and with a critical mind. The Lord will lead you to the truth of your are sincerely seeking it. As an ex muslim (born and raised), I did that finally at the age of 50, and I praise God for His mercy in opening my eyes and saving me from that abyss of darkness and eternal despair. Some helpful resources I recommend are David Wood, Christian Prince, Sam Shamoun, Islam Critiqued, Ahmad ExMuslim. I pray your eyes, heart and mind will be opened to receive the truth and salvation of Jesus Christ! 🙏🏻

Who created darkness and light ? God Who created evil and goodness ? God Who created Satan and sin ? God Who created our flesh ? God Who gave us desire of good and evil ? GOD Basically God does everything , none of human human work. And absolutely we have no free will . İt's Blesphesmy to say you have a will . Even Satan himself is under the will of God . No power is above Jesus. God knows everything , he planned all beforehand, he designed us , hence God knows every details of us and had been programmed. God chose and elect people according to his will before the foundation of the earth. God does everything. God can give us evil , pain , sufferings for our goodness. Jesus doesn't come for peace only but to bring divisions among people in the knowledge of God. .. Blessed are the one who were chosen by God to understand his words and truth. God said lean not on your own understanding and ideas. But understanding the scriptures by the guidance of the holy spirit of truth. Remember God said many are called but only few are chosen . So it's clear that God doesn't give his understanding of truth to everyone but to few only.

If God loves humans and we’re are put to tests through pain and suffering to “ love him more “ then I don’t want anything to do with him ! He’s not my friend and I don’t want him to be . I’ve cried out for help for more than most of my life and I’m not calling out for him anymore ! Put it this way , I Love my Dog to death he’s my best friend and if I put him through pain and suffering just so he can become to Love me more through that suffering then I would be very very cruel to subject him to that , so tell me why God loves humans if he does that ? It’s cruelty and I don’t give a crap what anyone tells me , he’s not my friend !
