ahhh. i remember this. i remember watching this years ago when she wasn't as famous as she is right now. When she was only known as the "red haired girl in victorious". i loved her soo much back then :) always knew she would turn out great and get recognition for her amazing voice.
This video is proof of her true vocal talent. No instruments, no back up vocals, just herself and a very beautiful, powerful, harmonious voice which permeates the room and alone is enough to make up for a whole band. Superb.

It makes me sad that people are like, "The old her was so much better!" Ariana is so much happier now and she grew up too. She can't be almost 22 still acting all hyper and bubbly like this. If she did that people would be like, "Wow, you need to act your age!" because she is criticized no matter what she does. Also, she used to act more like Cat because she thought people would like her more, so she shouldn't have to change herself, and thus be unhappy, just to meet the expectations of all of you. She can do whatever she wants, and she is a beautiful, confident woman now who has found herself in the world. If you don't like it then stick to Victorious reruns.

+allisonclaire She just took lessons and learned how to sing properly. As you can hear here she sings more raspy (which could potentially damage her vocals) She also sounds more nasal.

madeleine babe Not that I know why it's changed, but it may be because she underwent formal training. I'm just guessing when I say that. Because when I had voice training, my teacher taught us the correct way to sing so as not to injure the vocal cords. Most people sing improperly which wouldn't matter if you weren't trying to sing for a profession (where you need to hold concerts and sing frequently) but if you sang improperly for a long period of time and continuously injured the vocal cords, it can make even talking hurt. It might be a work in progress to a higher level where her singing will become even better. But like I said, I'm just guessing.

As a singer. I can hear her growth. Here she wasn't feeling the raw emotions of the song and also her runs aren't as clean, the pitch etc. Now she's a whole different person and I don't know her personally obviously lol, but from the outside looking in, she seems in control of her world. My goodness has her voice elevated so much since she filmed this. She’s purely gifted and freaking gorgeous. And we share the exact same birthday so I feel a connected ❤️
The reason she always wears the same hairstyle is because (as xoxoaudrey said) her red hair-dye made her hair fall out. The only way to hide her hair extensions was to put half of her hair up.
i think ariana is very talented either way, but i like her technique here way more. you can get a feel of her broadway belter voice. she was such a powerhouse and i think she lost that.
It's a matter of opinion, I do think her change was purposeful. Here her voice sounds way more innocent and broadway, doesn't suit the image she clearly wants to project.
