The guy playing Evan, it seems like he naturally stutters because he’s nailing it! I actually thought it was broadway but then I saw he didn’t have a cast.
I have just seen the real Evan Hansen. Broadway plays are artifice usually constructed to get an audience to suspend disbelief. Ben Platt is an amazing singer and actor possessing nearly unmatched talent but he is not a 17-year-old. Neither is Taylor Trensch. The young man above is quite a naturalistic actor and a strong singer. If a key to acting is presenting truth, this kid is closer to the essence of a socially dysfunctional high schooler than any other performer I have seen. In the above scene, he has created a most believable Evan. Before 28 yr old Taylor Trensch was cast, I had hoped that they would take a chance on a younger performer. Who knows if the above actor has the chops to totally inhabit that role for eight shows a week, but it seems like he deserves a very close look.
"I can't b e l i e v e you tried to kiss Zoey Murphy! On her *brother's* bed. After he D i E d." Now we just need someone as awesome as them to play the perfect non-broadway Jared XD
THIS IS SOOOOOO FREAKING AMAZING MY FIANCE AND I ARE JUST SITTING HERE IN AWE. MY FIANCE DOESNT EVEN LIKE MUSICAL THREATRE. THIS IS AMAZING. IVE WATCHED IT LIKE 15 TIMES
Omg she has a lisp. That’s honestly perfect, I haven’t seen the play but read the book and had my friend tell me about it when he saw the tour in LA, I mostly imagined her as a bad b because she kinda was sassy and mean, but this opens a new perspective because the lisp just adds innocence. And Evan is perfect like so cute.
Great job guys! But imho there's too much vibrato, it;s like you're using it whenever the song gives you a chance to, and it's way too "in your face", it works in certain parts of the song but not all. Too much of a good can be a bad thing, it's musical theatre not a pop song so even vibrato's can change the tone and feel of the song. But that's just my opinion xD good job!!!
I’m sorry but with enough practise and training it can be controlled!! Your telling me you’ve never heard a singer hold a note without vibrato at all? Or even when singers hold off the vibrato and then start doing it toward the end of the held note? It is possible to control
As a vocal coach, it's SO important to teach young singers to sing with their natural, unmitigated vibrato as often as possible. Almost always, young singers approach singing without vibrato with tension. It's better to allow kids and teens to develop their vibrato first so that they can learn what their voice naturally sounds like and then move to manipulating it when they're more mature and their voice is part the main phase of development.
@@blackmeetsred I remember my first vocal teacher told me that I had a natural vibrato and that we can smooth it out later. She specifically told me to not try and stop it or hide it.
he's the best off-broadway evan i've seen both vocally and acting wise! the only thing he needs tho is to not hit the 'r's so hard when he's singing, i feel like it takes away from the performance a bit. amazing job, both of them 💕
i know eric ackerman the second i see him haha, hes very recognizable! i found him through his “Be More Chill” performance, and has since followed him on instagram and he’s still so amazing
I know i already commented but his singing nailed it the zoe was aggresive (forced acting) but over all great for an off Broadway showing he really went for that kiss let me tell you i gasped this left me in chills and breathless
I mean, come on! This is just terrific! They're young and enthusiastic and sweet and innocent and all that. I don't care vibrato this or vibrato that, like other commenters said. Kudos to Lyndsey and Eric. I loved your expressions. And Eric, man, keep singing. It's what you were meant to do.
