I went to a lot of their converts in the early 70's. They were absolutely brilliant..They brought to the world stage Irish Traditional Music and the joyous atmosphere they generated at their concerts was out of this world. Alas there is only two left standing from this line up...Kevin Cunniffe Bodhrán and Michael Tubridy Flute/ Concertina. Ní fheicimíd a leithéad arís.
Fabulous…..loved them for decades……they introduced a wider audience to great lesser-known Irish tunes. Wonderful, sad to see they have mostly left us, but they brought great pleasure over the years. Many thanks
All legendary musicians. Long before Riverdance they introduced the world to Irish music. They came to Denver, Colorado, USA many times. They usually were invited over after a concert for a few drinks and a session to the home of Pat and Mary Flanagan, who I learned the music from (their son and granddaughter were just at my house yesterday for music). Their son remembers one time when he as went to bed the Chieftains minus Derek Bell were playing in the living room. When he got up in the morning and ate his breakfast, as he left for school the Chieftains were going strong playing tunes in the living room. What passion for the music!
0:04 / 3:34 If I Had Maggie in the Wood, I had always believed that that the Chieftains were all good upstanding Catholic and Protestant boys, now they tell us about chasing poor Maggie in the wood, I hope that she got away from those wild Celtic boys Years ago years ago I was talking to a Greek man about music about music, I told him about the great Thn Lizzy, Horslips, Rory Gallager, The Doors, Bob Dylan, CCR and others then he asked me what I thought of the Chieftains, I began to give his a history lesson of the Chieftains also my distant cousins The Tuatha Dé Danann and about The Land Of The Ever Young from way back in time, after a while, this man said I did not that the Chieftains were so old, I have only got their most recent records, later realised that he was talking about a band that i had never heard of before called The Chieftains
@@janet4021 Hello Janet, I also love this tune, the Chieftains were a most brilliant band, it is a pity that I only got to know about them and their music much later than most people, I have another true story about several of my family and I appearing on stage with The Chieftains & Van Morrison when they toured together after releasing their album Irish Heartbeat, I will save this story for some other time, Very best wishes to you Janet

@@janet4021 Ha Ha Janet, I am getting a little older each day but still young at heart, at the age of 27 years I stopped acknowledging celebrating my birthday, I tell people that I am as old as the hills but yet I have not aged
