My love and I were together for 26 years - when her third cancer was judged to be terminal, she decided that nature should at last be allowed to take its course, and also that at long last we should marry. When she was too weak to leave her bed, the bed that had been our bed, in the room that had been our room, I slipped in beside her again and we were married in a beautiful ceremony that spoke not of two young lovers starting out on a long journey, but of two who had made that journey side by side and had come to its end. The officiant closed with a reading of the lyrics of this song, and now I can't hear it without thinking of the moment after I slipped her grandmother's ring on her finger and it was time to kiss the bride; her eyes shone like diamonds and all her pain and suffering just fell away - she was a girl in love's sweet embrace once more. It was the sweetest kiss imaginable. We shared just eight days as husband and wife, but those days were filled with the love only true intimates can ever know, and this was our song...
Beautiful Tablature. Perfect lyrics for your journey with your love one. 17 months ago my wife of 55 yrs was diagnosed with cancer & fortunately it was found early enough that her chemo + radiation was successful -- we learned 2 weeks ago her cancer is gone so we were very blessed. You were also blessed to have such deep love.
For however long (never long enough) you two experienced something that most people will never be privileged enough to feel. Be grateful for having had a great love in your life.
I'm a Bruce Springsteen and the E Streent Band fan.. it is rare that I even like other people's covers, much less, like them better than the original. This, I find to be Better! Thank you!
Seen Paul 7 times, 8th time will be in September, I've known of Paul, since his days in Ace, early 70's band "How Long" was their best song, although I prefer "Ain't gonna Stand for this no more" xxalexxx
This guy has so much talent! He makes all the so-called modern talent look amateur. I have seen Paul Carrack live in concert a few times and he just gets better and better. He sings, he writes great songs, he does brilliant cover versions, he plays almost any instrument and on top of that he is a modest and down to earth guy! Brilliant!!
Hello Thanks for your comment and supports, your comments and constant support has brought me this far. Keep Supporting ❤️ Please send me a mail via.midgeure275@gmail.com
Just watched the One on One with Riz Khan. What a beautiful person Paul Carrack is, and I just love the words of this song. We need more people like this.
I lost my better half in 2016. One of his request at his passing was band of angels be played at his service. He also had a beautiful voice and played acoustic guitar. He could play just about anything but I guess he had never heard this song either, he would have really liked it. Not a day passes that I don't miss him. He was beautiful through and through. Thank you, this reminded me of his sweetness.❤
I'm thinking of adding this song to the list for my funeral? No, it won't be that formal. Just my siblings and a few friends. So far this one and Leonard Cohen's "Dance me to the end of love" I never did find romantic love but I did love and I hope there is someone waiting for me. I also want a bagpipe version of the Talking Heads song "And she was". I am a firm believer in the cleansing power of a good cry. Big love to all who shared. I love Bruce's version too.
I swear the same happened as I am listening to Paul's cover for the 1st time right now. It is an emotional song as I have performed it live both solo and with a band....... but I really feel the emotion in his voice. This is when music is so powerful.
I played this song at least six times since I first heard it today..... I can't believe how perfect the entire production is.... not to mention Paul's rich voice and soulful timing..... and yes, "this man has a voice I could listen to forever"... thanks a million. m.
We said we'd walk together baby come what may That come the twilight should we lose our way If as we're walking a hand should slip free I'll wait for you And should I fall behind Wait for me We swore we'd travel darlin' side by side We'd help each other stay in stride But each lover's steps fall so differently But I'll wait for you And if I should fall behind Wait for me Now everyone dreams of a love lasting and true But you and I know what this world can do So let's make our steps clear that the other may see And I'll wait for you If I should fall behind Wait for me Now there's a beautiful river in the valley ahead There 'neath the oak's bough soon we will be wed Should we lose each other in the shadow of the evening trees I'll wait for you And should I fall behind Wait for me Darlin' I'll wait for you Should I fall behind Wait for me
So...I shared this more than a week ago. No comments. Let hearts of stone melt and poetic voices cry! A comment would be good. After all...cats and dogs one here get a million likes.
david i've been saying for years that this man has one of the greatest voices of our generation.when he's gone only then will his talent be widely recognised & then it will be too late.only seen him twice but he is a genius
Lovely, heartfelt song. So great that we still have some sweet normalcy in this crazy, chaotic world, that seems at times, to have turned upside down. Music like this can give us all comfort. Thanks Paul!
Thanks Paul. What a beautiful love song. My wife & I will celebrate 27 years of marriage later this month. I just sent the link to her @ work as an early anniversary gift.
This is such a beautiful version of this Bruce Springsteen song… (And I’m a big Bruce fan) This song & your voice gives me chills. Such a beautiful performance…⭐️
if there was any one musician that i thought could just take music in any direction, it's my old Mr. Faithful Paul Carrack. you won't find another more diversified musician on the planet. my Mr. Dependable, my friend, and my musical inspiration...Paul Carrack. if i should fall behind, wait for me........as i would for you...
Should I be marrying my wife at this time this would be the song I would want played for our dance. We've been married 37 years and we still waiting for each other should either of us fall behind. God has blessed us with each other.
He is one singer that makes me happy to be alive at the same time as him. For my money there is no better singer on this planet. Much health, love and clarity to all.
I liked Springsteen on this song...Paul Carrack put his own touch on this...and I think it is simply awesome.....again I like pretty much every thing he sings....wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy under rated.
iv'e had the good fortune to see paul in concert many times, a favourite singer, great song writer and musician. you get what you see with Mr Carrack which, thankfully, is a hole heap of talent. Love this song, thank you Mr Springsteen
I've been married about 40yrs or so ! This was the kind of things I said to her when we met ......and I still say em now !!Marriage is worth fighting for, with your life (or should be)Happy days ya all
I honour my husband and soulmate with this song. We are a big fan of his songs. We were blessed to see him performed in the Netherlands in our city Groningen. Fabulous!
As an older gentleman this video inspires me as a musician but, also putting up with life, love the old house in this video. I look to Paul Carrack as a leader.
Paul Carrack !! Unsung, Underestimated, un be fckin lievable !!! What Soul !! Even knocks the spots off Michael McDonald for me as the worlds best Soul, R & B, and Pop Vocalist !!! Keep em coming Paul !! We Luvs ya in Essix !!
And you know they are mates right? Paul has written for Mike, they have sung together on stage in Manchester. Both friends of Jools Holland and Eric Clapton. Wheels within wheels.
I have seen Paul and his great band in concert 3 times (and once with Eric Clapton). Each show was fabulous, Paul always gives 100%. A truly talented singer/songwriter and musician...and modest with it. Well worth watching out for him in your local area...you won't be disappointed. One of the best.
First saw him perform in the band ACE i think in 74 on tv and I knew from his voice he was going to be around a long time in the music business. I saw him live at a local gig in the midlands a few years back and he's still brilliant. He had a great influence on my music.
First heard of him also in 74 . I bought the album Five a side by Ace in 74 . Finally saw him a couple of times in Glasgow a few years ago . What a voice .
@@incognito7313 You speak of Glasgow that reminded me that Benny Gallagher is local to me now and at an open mike a couple of years ago we were discussing the talent of Paul Carrack and he said he was a fan. Nice to hear from you.
My god, this song by Springsteen is such a beautiful and moving song and sung by one of the best vocalists ever! I only wish I had written a song as great as this but I'll keep on trying...
Best of this version ever ...and I guess you have heard this before. Thank you... I hope someone/everyone will play this tune, and have a tought of taking care of you and me... Best of from Roger
some times it's just the song itself, no message, no meaning.....just the song. what a classic this will be many years down the road. truly one of my all time favorites, yesterday, today, and somewhere on my journey down the road........... l i s t e n....shhhhhhhh,,
Love doesn't come to an end. Those who love one another and are separated by death find something amazing when they meet again - namely, that their mutual love has been immeasurably strengthened by that separation. It's like tempered steel compared with un-tempered, it has an amazing strength it didn't have before. Otherwise, love makes no sense at all - if all it does is bring you a fleeting happiness that is then lost forever. It's much better than that. That's why everyone looks for it, hopes for it, sings about it, writes poetry about it, and grieves when they lose it. But it wins out in the end. No doubt about that.
Sincerely one of my favorite singers and artists on the planet. Been following Paul for some 30 or so years A poignant song befitting his gorgeous tone and impeccable phrasing. He is one of the special ones that other artists like myself look to for profound inspiration.. bless him.
+Ricky Pannowitz ya wow he inspires the voice of serenity inside us. we can only listen and hear our own soul certain to follow... the beauty ... and thanks bruce.. the song MMM HMMM
Paul has a great voice and is a great musician. Not many can cover a song make it their own and better than the original. Keep the music coming Paul!!!
As a singer myself I have introduced Paul Carracks work to many people who had never heard of him before. This just proves my theory that he could sing the phone directory to you and make it sound wonderful
