Two weeks ago, I received a message from Noami. Noami decided to paint with oils again after 10+ years, with creativity and inspiration, as she wrote, “bursting at every seam”. However, when she started, she realized that she didn’t have the proper skills to pull ideas from her mind and ley them on the canvas. In her own words : “I am frustrated because I feel like I need to scream but don't know how.”
Naomi is aware of what’s holding her back, she admitted that she pushed away foundational skills in the pursuit of only that which is shiny and exciting. She knows she should be practicing and yet, this simple idea feels terrifying to her. “Why is it that the thought of practicing form and value petrifies me?, she asked. I don’t know… she added, maybe I'm afraid of facing the gigantic mountain I have to climb before I can truly express myself.”

I am an artist living and working in France. I learned the techniques of the Atelier of the Nineteenth century and now I try to share some of my knowledge with the rest of the world, because I think that beauty still has an important role to play in artistic creation.
