This is actually very accurate. My sister was very suicidal and she was sent to psych wards very often. I would visit her often. The kids in colorful pajamas are extremely accurate but they didn’t have library’s because of the sharp edges of books. They would even use special paper that couldn’t give you paper cuts. When I would visit I would always hear someone screaming or people being strapped to beds and being put in “the silent room” it was basically a prison.

Personally, in my experiences, i would have been desperate enough to literally try to kill myself with a book if I was given the chance, so it’s a precaution that HAS to be taken. At my facility, we had board games and puzzles and tv to keep us entertained, and we watched a movie every night. I know it seems like a prison and it really does feel like one, but people HAVE to understand that the people there have either tried to or are considering ending their lives. Once it gets to that point nothing can stop them. It’s sad, but it’s true.

As someone who has been to psych wards multiple times. I can confirm sending your children away only makes their mental health worse, I recommend letting them stay home with the people that they love.

I’m sorry if this seems disrespectful but PLEASE don’t say stuff like this. I’ve been admitted too and it saved my life. I agree that it was traumatic but I can honestly say that if I didn’t go I wouldn’t be here today. You’re experiences are 100% valid and all but there are people out there who would genuinely benefit from a psychiatric hospital and telling people not to go only raises the stigma about them/lh/nm

Me too, like I don’t ever want to be in that hospital again. Quick summary: I was talking to a therapist at school and then after they sent me to a hospital where I was there for like 5 hours. They would talk to me like every 30 minutes or 20. But I never want to go back there, and I was terrified when my parents would talk to me about it. I don’t want to ever...EVER talk about it... and honestly, it still happens. I can't stop hur!1ng myself it just feels so nice and calming. Please, I'm scared....I hope my parents never find this..nvm I'm probably gonna delete this...

;--; ok. Every one experience is different but please. I beg you please if they hurt themselves then you should let them go as what can the parents do??? My parents can't do shit. Most people family can't do shit because guess what most people who go don't have a loving home. People who are more like my parents are adults that I know. just everyone else is different yes you can be right but I got to say. I loved my mental hospital. Sure I had to wait 5 hours in the hospital but so? I got help. Actually took care of myself and had fun. Got Better. Now I'm here commenting on people comments.

Eh, I only recently realized how messed up my experiences were when I was hospitalized in a mental/behavioral institution- Like- one nurse threatened to not feed me because I told her that I wasn’t going to go to the school/education center that was part of the institution (because the institution had to un-enroll me from the school I go to to enroll me into their education program). I tried to explain this to her, but she refused to listen until the instructor in the education program told her the same thing I told her. Bi tch didn’t even apologize- And when someone was having a mental breakdown, the nurses would just sit there and the person having a breakdown had to depend on other inpatients to comfort them. The only reason I didn’t see anything wrong with it at the time was because they pumped me full of strong antidepressants. But idk, that was my personal experience-

My parents have threatened to send me to one when I was nine because they neglected me so I had a death note I would write in about people I hated because they never listened to me when I wanted to talk about the people I hated. Just thinking about being in a place like that gives me chills. Those nurses obviously didn't care about you or the other patients. People are sent there to get better not worse.

I was sent to one when I was seven but they were really nice and it was fun, and I was sent to two other ones when I was nine and one of them were cruel if you didn’t follow the rules like having your hands under the table was restricted and when I did that on my first day there and refused not to follow that one rule they proceeded to sit on me and restrain me because of that, and they made you do PE and if you didn’t they would yell and restrain you, and there was a report of them breaking a girls arm and not getting it treated so she had a untreated broken arm for several months before her parents came to get her, and the other one I have been to about three times and it was just really boring but they treated you well

I love the detail of William calling michael a "brat" but as soon as he sees what Michael did he responds with worry. This displays that William simply acted as if he didn't care about Michael but his buried compassion for Michael peaked the surface when he knew he had issues, time to time some people may act the opposite of how hey really feel.

Maybe in America and other countries mental hospitals are different, but in my case hospital made it so easier for me. We didn't have visiting days, we didn't have phones, only communication we had with our parents are transmissions with food, books etc. I've been there for almost month and I loved it there! Thought we didn't really get help there. They gave us medicine and psychiatrists cheked on our statement. People that been there helped me, also medication did. But you should count that I wanted to go there. It's an interesting experience, thought I wouldn't recommend anyone to be in the same situation as I've been. Hurting urself can be bad if u hurted urself badly,U have to go to a Mental hostpital.I always suggest hitting ur bed or punching ur bed then urself.If u do u can get hurt or even worse.I always try not to hurt myself because,I am to young and I need my Mother.If u go to a Mental hospital it means u might have injured urself or u always scratch urself,it's not okay trust me u will regret it.If u cry tell the person who u trust the most,then tell them what has been happening that u wanna hurt urself so bad.Then always make sure u calm down before telling anyone.Then u don't have to go to a mental hostpital.Then u can be with ur friends. When i was young i got sent the psych wards very ofter cause i enjoyed making bruises or even sh on myself. Everything there was so dull expect the activity area and some murals, it was full of colors and the bright uniforms are so accurate, mines was orange, there wasn't a lot of orange i remember, but a lot of blue, i think it was the reason you got in for so nurses could know how to treat you. Books were banned from my area, as well as pencils or pens, i could only use crayolas hahaha.

Looking at these comments, I realise how different every one’s experience is. A lot of this is accurate to a certain degree for everyone! But for my experience the nurses did not give a shit about anything, one nurse literally made fun of the fact I rarely ate and when I did it was a single piece of fruit or a salad, I only got to talk to a therapist ONCE in the 18 days I was there even though I would constantly ask to be spoken with. They also refused to help patients with panic attacks as, “that’s just how it is here”??? There was someone in the other room from us and she had an attack every night because this one kid always wanted attention and would scream so loud, he screamed when I was in line next to him to get meds and I had a panic attack aswell and they just made me go back to the main room.. but I will say that drawing and reading definitely helps! I was working on a 700 page book and got atleast 370 pages in before being discharged!! So it is not all bad, it’s a experience to make friends with people who are like you(and get help I suppose)

As someone who went to one for a while (this was almost 6 years ago dw) it's very accurate. The sad thing is that the friends you make there you can't interact with again because you're not allowed to exchange contact info.

The mental hospital where I stayed wasn't like that. You could've been there for almost a month, your family could visit you specifical days. Almost no friends there, they control how much you eat, I'm happy that I went out of there, now I'm not hospitalized, I'm still in Dharma (Mental hospital) but doing activities and being with psychologist and psychiatrists, it's not that bad...I guess, I finally made friends. Im still cutting sometimes...I hope I don't get hospitalized again...

I am happy you are showing what they are in reality. I work in one near me and the campus is beautiful and yes it is strict. I understand some people had terrible experiences with a mental hospital and i am sorry for that.
