As someone who personally prefers Apple let me just apologise on behalf of the dipshit Apple fans who don't understand that both Windows and Apple have their share of flaws

you know what, as an all-platform user, I'll tell you that apple has been dropping the ball a lot harder than windows has... It's quite clear that Apple left their PC business third-place behind their mobile plans. Their mobile stuff is quite good (but still overpriced) but their macs have been nothing but a downer in the last years. Their OS might still be the most stable one (although it really isn't as stable as people like to state it is), but they don't even go through the effort of letting their mac's hardware be up to date anymore. The most expensive mac you can get right now has hardware in it from 2012. -- BUT: MS has been dropping the ball hard as well. Almost everything modern seems to get crappier every day. They focus on clouds and interconnectivity over a well-placed product.

However, you need to ask why. Well, mandating a Kinect 2.0 with every Xbox One allows for full game support. It's like buying the Wii U with the optional GamePad. Look how much more interesting games are on the Wii U that companies were able to take full advantage of it (for Wii U exclusives). While I applaud that there are privacy settings, it's very suspicious that Windows still communicates with the Microsoft servers if you disable all settings. Furthermore, you can't even disable all of them when you use home edition. Cortana is optional, but if you use it, you basically live in a panopticum. Cortana even reads your text messages and emails. While I don't think it's inherently alarming that Windows 10 does communicate with Microsoft servers, it's alarming that it doesn't let me prevent that communication. After all, they will have an intention of doing so. It's the same crap as with the Kinect-scandal, but this time, it hits peoples PC's where there actually is sensitive data.

Microsoft says that it acquires data in order to make things better for the experience of using Windows 10 which is, in my experience, true (for example Cortana notifies me about traffic every single morning before I go to "work" (which is school for me). It is surely creepy the first time but you start to really enjoy these types of things. It is definitely shady business, but when it benefits my experience, I can't complain too much. I could always write down passwords in a journal just incase MSFT ever gets hacked.

They are just lazy enough not to fire up Google and search something about building a PC, buying assembled rig instead. It's really simple, since a) Internet is full of information, and there are plenty of forums where you can ask about everything, and B) building a PC is not harder than building Lego, because very little can go wrong if you follow the manual. If they're elderly people who are not good with tech at all, though, it is justified. But they tend to switch to easier to use tablets.

TheLaXandro All surgeries are really quite simple as well. All the information is online and you can buy all the tools you need to repair and replace your own organs. The point I'm making here is that for some people it's worth the extra money to not have to worry about either: A) Learning things they don't want to spend any time learning, or B) Screwing it up because they didn't fully understand the material. Not to mention that a lot of people actually have shit going on in their lives and don't want to undertake a self taught computer component course.

Nano Saber I was kiddin'. I ain't shelling out $120 for a copy of any program or OS. Most open source equivalents are good enough or even better for my needs. I dual boot with Kali, but it doesn't fulfill every need.

The cracked versions of Windows have exploits or other RAT Trojans embedded in them.It could be used for gaming or watching videos but don't bother using any passwords as numerous other strangers will be watching oh and they will thankfully use your credit card information too.

***** its kind of ironic because as an honest gamer, xbox did more for gaming in the last 2 gens, than both nintendo and sony combined, and im a HUGE nintendo fan. but the thing was microsoft was the first to add in an internal hard drive, the first to have achievements, the first to have a good healthy online support, they made a near perfect design for the modern day controller with the 360, they have the cheapest licensing fees and are always willing to work with 3rd party developers, they made their system easy to develop for, they help fund games like gears of war and dead rising 3. they activly listen to their fanbase (as is proven with the e3 presentation) they give a ton of gamers, what they want (shooters, sports, racers) they offer a robust online community and experience. so when you think about it, while i may not care for the system, i can see the appeal of the xbox brand.

They listened to their fan base cause they were their stock plummeted after the E3 presentation of the Xbone and people were ready to set fire to their buildings. PS3 and PC also give gamers what they want, most if not all of the exact same games are on PS3 and PC.

BeyondEnergy Well, more or less. It's not 100% done yet, anyhow. The Steam OS relies on being a very lightweight system, though. If they packed it with UI and driver elements similar to Windows they would lose the gaming performance that drives the OS' success. Also, not many want to use two operating systems. (a la, writing essays on Word in Windows and playing Team Fortress 2 on Steam OS) Linux also wont support any of the Adobe editing software or Sony Vegas for a long time. Currently, there is no good reason to use the Steam OS over Windows other than performance. The Steam OS is designed to run a simple UI and a huge library of games on TVs, using the Steam controller. The goal was not to compete with Windows, rather it was to compete with consoles.

Raul Kolk Sure it's not a full blown OS but I think with time and with linux being Open means there will be varients that will support some stuff at the beginning. Some time after that when people will want to get some work done without switching from Steam to windows for work and games, they will eventually switch to Steam as it more than likely have some kind of support for what they need even if it's limited at first. Microsoft can have buisnesses with win machines but home PCs will run Steam. It's the only logial progression I can see, otherwise we're fucked.

I still use the Zune software even though I never bought a zune player. The software works great and has simply the most practical and most beautiful GUI I've ever seen on any player. Plus, it doesn't fuck up your file system.

Wolf Jesus Did you forget the launch of the PS3? The pricing and the ridiculous things they were saying were a major reason the 360 took over the living room last gen. It's why Kutaragi got canned. Also, don't forget them cutting feature after feature with every iteration, and them not telling people their personal info had been compromised for over a week after it happened. Their consumer-friendly reputation is fairly new.

***** No you can use any drive it just limits space. Xbone only sold well because Sony is going through hell right now, both companies are pretty bad. Both refuse to up their security for their servers despite charging their customers, both are charging too much for technology that should be about $200 - 300. Can't wait for SteamOS to launch. The Windows phones are always garbage and always will be. Why do you think they're blatantly copying Linux now in Windows 10?

Changing the side of closing those windows, changing the colours, adding a few stuff etc...doesn't make them original. Windows showed the way for the ultimate OS....Linux doesn't make your life easier with all this bunch of commands, neither the UI prettier with its simplicity. As i said i had used it for a while from a boot CD and when i tried to install it on the HDD i was getting often errors of GPU incompatibility, while i can easily run 8.1 now. Linux is good for hacking, but not for an everyday's use. -About OSX, just not interested. Not as flexible as Windows, incompatible, limited etc. -Windows Phones are garbage?? Because they don't crash, they don't cause core errors, UI errors etc like an Android? Because they are fast as hell or because they are beautiful and different than the similar iOS/Android?? Anyway, the phone area is mostly based on a personal choice, but not the full OS. They are supposed to make our life easier and prettier in a way and only Windows have achieved this. You say that you cannot wait for Steam OS....i mean...this is another example of instability....what is the Steam OS??
