This is actually probably how some songs are written… David Bowie wrote “heroes” copying the feel of the velvet underground ‘ waiting for my man.” And Def Leppard wrote “hysteria“ partly copying David Bowie “heroes…“ at least some of the chord changes and the Robert Fripp melody guitar part.

I would really love to see a video where the theme was "doing x album/song/etc but in the style of different Bowie albums/eras". just for the sake of an easy example, I'll use Nevermind. Well, I really loved the video and it was obviously made for fun and entertainment but as a Bowie's fan I thought this one was not as interesting as the others: it's basically Space Oddity's arrangement and structure (transition 1st verse/chorus) transcribed to Something in the way. But I mean I get why, compared to the other bands that have more of a signature sound, Bowie changed his every 3 albums or so, so yeah the exercise is almost impossible and taking one of his most successful song is probably the best choice. So yeah nobody cares and I don't know why I wrote that.

But as I don't know Bowie's work so well, I couldn't get why he made the choice of just transcribing one song into the other, like you said. It's one point that leads me to admire David Bowie a little more, despite still not knowing him very well
