Ralph Towner is a one of my favorite composers. I am enjoying to play his tune "If" a lot. In July 2022 I played a wonderful guitar festival in Neuburg "BAROCK bis ROCK" and they celebrated their 10th anniversary of the festival. It was so good to be back in Neuburg and I am lucky they did a livestream, so I can share this tune out of it with you!

Ralph Towner is a master composer. Note that the chord structure constantly folds back on itself but reinforces the body of the song between each phrase. It's beautiful and complex at the same time.

Ralph Towner has taken the harmonic and rhythmic sophistication of modern jazz pianists (he is one himself) and the nearly keyboard like potentialities of classical guitar and woven an astonishing uncatagorizable lifetimes body of work that serious creative musicians will return to for inspiration for the foreseeable future.

Liebe Jule, ich habe heute (leider!) nur was beim Einspielen im Heidenheimer Lokschuppen und die erste Nummer des Konzertes mitbekommen. Sehr, sehr schön! Ohren und Herz waren sehr angenehm berührt. Bin eine vom "Stuff". Dein "Fanclub" aus Neuburg/ Donau hat mich auf das Konzert am 21. Juli hingewiesen. Ich werde dabeisein und freu mich schon drauf. Die Strecke kenn ich ja von meiner Fahrt ins Birdland gestern. Auch in Dresden war ich in diesem Jahr schon, der nächste Termin dort ist Mitte Mai. Ich ❤ diese Stadt! Kann gut verstehen, dass es Dich von der rauen Alb dort hingezogen hat. Um so schöner, dass Du trotz vollem Kalender hierherkommst und auch Konzerte gibst. Bis dahin alles Gute, liebe Grüße Gabriele

My first time inside a bar/club was to see Ralph Towner at the Jazzhaus in Lawrence KS in 1985 when I was 17, so a bit illegal. I still love the guy's work and I'm always tickled to see people covering him too, like this. So beautiful. I've never covered anyone myself though. I do my own thing well but I don't think I could cover anyone else's stuff well enough to bother.

I remember a quote of my daughter who was listening to the Oregon version of the beautiful pieces...dad ,is the piece about angels?? From that moment on I can only think of Angels when I am listening to this piece....❤❤

Liebe Jule, ich habe fasziniert auf deine Finger geschaut. Unglaublich, was du damit anstellen kannst. 😊 "If" ist eines meiner Lieblingsstücke überhaupt und für mich das Beste, was Ralph Towner jemals geschrieben hat. Ich spiele es selber 3mal täglich. Nein, Scherz! Ist zu schwierig für mich. Aber du spielst es fabelhaft und dazu noch mit so einem brillianten Liveton. Danke dir dafür, die Woche könnte nicht besser anfangen. Liebe Grüße, Günter

Came across this by chance and I am really impressed! I have been into Yownets work for years and "If" is one of his best songs - along with "Reluctant Bride. This version by Jule is stunning and performed just as good as the Towner could do himself! Respect!

Hello again. Just quick.... Spelling control created a guy called Yownets! Or was it my lazy fingers? Towner of course! Anyway, is the song in standard tunning and did you learn it by ear or sheet music available to everyone? And finally....it can be a pain to learn to use all 5 fingers on the right hand. Any serious tutorial videos you can point to....? Thanks. Lars

Fantastisch, einfach nur ein Hochgenuss, das Zuhören und auch das Zusehen, wenn deine Finger über die Saiten gleiten. Es sieht so einfach aus, wenn du spielst. étant moi même un admirateur de Ralph Towner malheureusement je ne sais pas lire le solfège et je travaille avec les tablatures et le disque j'ai 72 ans et je le suis depuis plus de 40 ans ainsi qu'Oregon dans l'album" solo concert " de 1978 il y un morceau "Ralph's Piano Waltz " écrit par John Abercrombie qui est une pure merveille - regarde le si tu en as l'occasion et merci encore de ta belle version très dans l'âme de Towner
