The Repubs brought their agenda into the open during the Reagan administration. During Clinton's and W. Bush's presidencies, the Repubs have not only flaunted that agenda, but convinced a majority of white people that democracy is a Very Bad Thing. And the only way to "Save Our Country" is to return--at the very least-- to the "Gilded Age; although many whites would prefer the Antebellum days, before slavery was outlawed. These days, Repubs are proud of their bigotry. And due to the bigotry encoded in our Constitution, institutions and American culture, We The People can count on periodic movements to make white, male, khristian, authoritarian supremacy the official Law of the Land.

Even in local elections now, I cannot and will not vote Republican. With what the current Party stands for, even truly principled conservatives can no longer divorce themselves from the head of the ticket and the nefarious overlords feeding off of tfg's clear dysfunction. So yeah, straight Blue up and down the ballot (and wherever possible, vet the various candidates, so that the best of them win the primaries), but especially in the upper State races and the Congressional races, we need the declared party affiliation to make the House functional and the Senate sane.

There are definitely arguments to be had for being more discerning on local votes depending on the specific people up for election and the political climate of your local state/region. I'm definitely not a "vote blue no matter who" person, that deletes too much nuance from the conversation. But the reality of the Electoral Collage and a FPTP voting system is that the President is going to be a Democrat or a Republican for the foreseeable future so keeping the Republican out is the best you can do. Once the Republicans are obsolete or voting reform is enacted you can start voting for new (actually left) options without handing the presidency to the anti-democracy party, but until then putting a democrat in the white house and putting as much pressure on the democrat party as you can to reform (both internally and the nations voting system) is the only practical path forward Americans have. (If it makes you feel better, we Brits also have major issues in our electoral system. We also use FPTP, and our House of Lords, equivalent to your senate, is entirely unelected and has guaranteed seats for the Church of England and actual landed "nobels")

Well said. Voting is the bare minimum to at least ensure the better of two evils is selected. But real change will only happen when enough people (a) organize their coworkers into strong militant unions, and (b) get mad as hell and take to the streets in large numbers (>3% of the population)
