It’s the same in FF7, Supernova can’t actually kill anyone, because it reduces your current health to 1/16 of what it was. (It could in the original Japanese version though, but the animation was way different there)
I'm pretty sure that it's a psionic attack by Sephiroth, which explains why there's mathematical formulas during the sequence that imply it's a hypothetical event and the affected characters have afflictions that makes them appear to be confused by what they saw.

Any star when it ages more and more, the balance of explosive power and gravity begins to collapse when it runs out of hydrogen, leaving gravity overtaking the whole system. If a star is large enough, it means it has so much mass gravity becomes so powerful not even light can escape. So the star is still there, just getting older.
@@renookami4651 so many, many bosses with 1 hit ko and time attack trial didn't use this mechanic. Make you feel more submerge, more interactive to the games, any game. But noooeee! 1 hit ko as it is.

Fun fact: despite how flashy and excessive Supernova is, and the fact that it destroys the entire solar system, it can’t actually kill anyone in FF7, because it reduces your health to 1/16 of what it was. This was different in the original Japanese version, but the animation was completely different, and way shorter.
@@dieptrieu6564 probably, when i played final fantasy 5, attacks that dealt a percentage of your current health never killed. even if HP was at 1, the attack would automatically miss
@@RprSonic His Final Smash would be situational. He could time out if he’s ahead in stocks or KOs, but if he’s trailing behind, then he should avoid even using it.
@@jamesestelle7260 The length of the Weapon fights are nothing compared to some modern FF bosses. That’s like the average length of a boss fight in FF7R.
@@TheBrutalSax At that time sir. That was the hardest thing to accomplish in that era. Trust me the emerald weapon was timed unless you had the Underwater Materia. And even with that was a nightmare. I played that game for months and I only completed like 90% of EVERYTHING you could do before the online forums to assist.

Considering he just smashes jupiter, which is actually a great astroid magnet for earth, long term earth would probably still be screwed from random outer galaxy celestial entries.
It’s the best way to win: win two stocks against them, get Final Smash before 1:50, then activate it just after 1:50 left to annoy people by a cutscene.
Final smashes cant be more than something like 10 seconds long. Sakurai said he wants to keep the pace of the match. Edit: lol nvm I see what you meant 😂
I remember being AMAZED as a kid seeing super nova for the first time, but then he used it again and again....lol. I used footage of this in a presentation about if the sun went supernova in middle school. It seemed effective I got a good grade!

I’m so glad that they chose this as his final smash cause seeing that as a kid was mind boggling. I was so stunned the first time I didn’t attack. I was just scared
I haven't played final fantasy VII yet, and I imagine it must be a pain to watch this cutscene everytime he does this attack... like: _Come on... I feel that this next attack it's going to kill him... _*_supernova_*_ NOOOOO!!!_ And you waste 3 minutes watching the entyre thing just to do like 10 hp of damage
