Broncos greats Terrell Davis, Rod Smith and Mark Schlereth reflect on what made Steve Atwater one of the best safeties in the history of the NFL. Subscribe to Broncos » / broncos
2:19 the play that won the superbowl. He was involved in 2 turnovers that game. No doubt he should have been the MVP. Legend. Atwater is my favorite player ever. So fun to watch. As I see it, he is the best safety of all time.
I idolized Steve Atwater growing up. He is the reason I played strong safety through high school. No college. Especially when you're 5'7" 160 lbs soaking wet.
Clowney would come with a huge price tag, and we don't have the cap space. Besides, defensive line is arguably our strongest position group. It would be an extravagance to trade for Clowney. If we did move heaven and earth to trade for a new player, it would be for an inside linebacker. We also need depth at offensive line, but probably wouldn't fork over a lot of capital to fill that need, since we already paid so much for Ja'Wuan James.
Snot bubblin people!!! That hit in the SB was a double KO. (Friendly fire lol) Im glad the game has changed a little bit to protect players but i could watch people getting messed by 27 all day.👌👌💀💀
Yeah 3 men down on that one, including Steve. Hardest hit I've ever seen. I thought he may have paralyzed himself when it happened. He just fell limp to the turf.
Met him at Broncos camp at the stadium in July and he’s a really nice guy. Signed my jersey too. Absolutely deserves to be in the HOF. One of the best safeties in history
No disrespect to Champ Bailey, but Atwater or Randy Gradishar should have been the first Bronco defender in the HoF. It wasn't perfect but I am happy that 27 made the HoF.
I'm from Chicago and when I became aware of Atwater's play, I thought.: "He would be the perfect Bears defensive player." If he was 5 years older, he would have been devastating as a member of the 85 Bears. Can you imagine plugging him into that team?
What a player and what this type of player meant to the NFL. Sadly the game has changed so much since he was player and changed not to the good of the game!!……….hard to watch the game today.
Even though Steve is my favorite safety of all time, I went back and did see Okoye's foot not being down and lowering his body unevenly, steve hit him when he was unbalanced, But steve does have the ability, no disregard to him though.
I Never Liked Football Until My Old Man Took Me To A Game. They Played The Chargers And Steve Atwater Hit This Guy So Hard It Sounded Like He Pulled Out A Really Big Gun And Shot Him It Was Loud, I Don't Remember The Name Of The Guy He Hit But I Will Never Forget That Sound. I've Been A Bronco Fan Every Since.
Man that must be nice to be able to go up to him and get some advice or just sit and listen to him talk about the things he does remember!!! That would be a blessing in it self but just man to man
Growing up we had season tickets at Old Mile high. Atwater will always be my favorite athlete. I use number 27 for everything. Just look at my name LOL
From day 1 with the Broncos he was my favorite player. I worked at UNC during his rookie and 2nd year training camps. Every defensive play I would watch him... knowing full well he would be in on the tackle. One of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet........ unless you're on the other side of the ball. He should have been in THOF years ago.
I put him and Doug Planck at the top of the most feared NFL DBs. There are many others great hitters, Tatum, Shell, Fencik, Bates, Lott, Lynch, Easley.... but Atwater and Planck were on a different planet!
