It was always the least popular, we have to be real here. But that's in ow1, where there never was that much tank variety. It might very well become nearly as popular as other roles if 6v6 comes back

Tank players would have much more freedom to do what they want in 6v6. It would definitely make it funner as well!

6v6 was hell. Tanks were made of paper back then. They had less health AND took more damage. Double shield was also a nightmare. 5v5 is great- tanks just need to learn how to swap. DPS players can one-trick, but tanks need to constantly modify their approach.

@@nicolasleroux5302 Counter swapping is one of the main reasons players hate tank. Most players just want to get into a game and play the characters they like but as soon as someone starts losing they swap to a hard counter and it ruins the fun. With two tanks, you don't need to swap as much because the other player can compensate for your weaknesses. Other roles still have that ability but tank lost it with the transition and it has made tank a chore to play rather than joy. I used to love off-tanking in overwatch 1 but now anytime I que tank it makes me want to smash my computer.

@@borutoburrito6547 Swapping has always been a major part of Overwatch because of how one-sided many matchups are. If the enemy has pharah-echo, your DPS teammates shouldn’t say “but I wanna play junkrat-reaper.” Rather, they should play hitscan and force the enemy team to rebuild their comp. This is true for tanks too. If the enemy has ball or winston, don’t play rein. If they have Orisa or Hog, don’t play Doom. If players don’t like this, then there shouldn’t be so many lopsided matchups in the game.

@@nicolasleroux5302Let’s not be dense. If u play junk reaper into pharah and destroy their back line and tank then the pharah gets shit on. Just bc u play pharah into projectile dps doesn’t mean u automatically win. Compare that to a zarya dva matchup. The dva has to occupy the frontline and is at an inherent disadvantage. She has to swap bc it’s just not the right pick. You can’t attack the back line bc the zarya can turn on you and you have no way of mitigating her damage. These aren’t equal. If a pharah chases a reaper in her back line she isn’t attacking his team therefore giving him the same value as a hitscan contesting her. And the reaper still has abilities to play around that pharah pick. These two situations are nowhere near comparable.

Why did he have 15 accounts in top 500 if swapping hitscan was that lopsided. The answer is bc it’s not. Dps and support to a lesser extent are able to force characters bc matchups aren’t rock paper scissors. It’s about ability and execution. A hit scan has the ability to kill a pharah. But if the pharah is better he won’t be able to execute that. The best rein player in the world can and will lose to a mediocre mauga player if mauga is meta. The best dvas don’t even force it against zarya. Not the same man.

Then the cherry on top that was Baptist, which released after Brig. Truly made the game worse.

That Rein zarya combo was insane. A good duo that was more devastating than dps in ow1.

Release Brig was a nightmare, yes, but it’s incorrect to say that she ruined tanks. If anything, Brig 1.0 created a meta where tanks (specifically Rein, Zarya, and D.va, all of whom were widely loved) dominated. Brig sucked for DPS, not tanks.

i was healboting on kiriko and ana for 6 seasons in a row, now i am playing bap only and have 8k damage per 10 with 7k healing per 10, my winrate on support increased from 51-52% to 70%, screw every doomfist main i would rather play for myself and win games by my own than support another onetricking idiot

@EL1PSE Doomfist can and should be able to go for health packs or use his ult, but I'm talking more about front-line tanks or no mobility tanks. If supports don't land their shots and get kills and the enemy teams support land theirs on the tank, then they win 9/10 times. Team who kills the tank first at higher ELOS usually win the team fights.

Become rein onetrick and ignore crying of your team 😎

This is such a brain dead take. 5v5 gutted the tank role, you are now solely responsible for protecting your team and making space. If you mess up once, you get blamed because there is no other tank to back you up and you are the frontline. Every other role has a teammate that can pick up the slack if you aren't playing great. Tank role requires you to play perfectly every game or you lose/get reported for throwing. And you are also the most counter-able since you are the only tank, so every game be prepared to get fully countered forcing you to repeatedly swap Tank feels like a whole job now. Especially when Tank-buster's are meta like Mauga/Hog so every other tank is forced to swap to them or you get flamed. Or the long Orisa meta we just had, where if you didnt play the most boring tank in the game you were also reported/blamed for throwing Saying we cant go back to 6v6 because 5v5 made all tank players quit is nonsense

@@shocky377 The funny part is you can play perfectly and still lose when their is dps or support diff....or the enemy just counter swaps you with 3 ppl and your team doesnt help you with swapping aswell. I had so many games with a reaper+junkrat dps line while the enemy played zen and perma discord me on tank and my supports beeing moira+illari both on pure dps...it is fuckn time to get 6v6 back so I dont get the blame with 2 times the stats of my dps line combined....
