Not only one of the greatest songs written for Arcane, but one of the greatest songs written in the last few years IMHO -- absolutely brilliant. I'm so honored to have spoken at length with Mako for my podcast, and gotten to chat with him about all the ins and outs of writing this song, as well as many others for Arcane and League of Legends. Please enjoy this breakdown :]
Agree 100%. I really like how Sting's singing this song! Can you please please do a reaction of Colm's Cover of What could've been? His cover just completely blew me out of the water and made me feel all kinds of things.
this song is just.... such haunted perfection. listening to it without the show is still moving, but with the knowledge and context of the show.... its just.... vacuous.... i adore it. and i have since i watched arcane for the first (of many) times when it first came out.
I've been a long-time lurker, but I had to mention that I absolutely love your analysis style. The way you explain things is very straightforward and easily understood, and I'd die for an analysis of Woodkid's "Guns for Hire", either the version from the show or he does an acoustic version with just him and a piano line. Regardless, thank you for this amazing analysis, Peter!
This song is just pure heartache and I LOVE IT! The lyrics "why don't you love who I am" don't even feel like something you would sing, more like something you would scream, like why don't you love me, why am I unlovable, and then the rest of the song is just mourning how things could have turned out differently. This song is just so good!😭
Great job of integrating the analysis with the story context (and yet staying spoiler-free!). At least half the songs from Arcane--I would go so far as to say the best ones--have an almost uncanny ability to conjure up the images they accompanied in the show. In large part I think it's because the emotion (and thus the technique) of the delivery matches their visuals so well--which in turn was only possible because the songs were purpose-built, in writing and in performance, for their place in the story. Some lessons there for anyone planning an OST.
For comparison I would suggest watching the live version of this song. Something about Stings voice makes everything feel more raw and visceral. Or that could have just been me. 😅 Also I’m still making my way threw your videos and I know you looked at Dans toss a coin to your Witcher, which used to be my favorite Dan Vasc Cover until he performed Amazing Grace. Please check it out if you haven’t already.
this music being so under the radar is so unfair. this piece is brilliant and if you add the series context on top of this? overwhelming. and yet... no one knows of this... mindboggling
A new favorite of mine. Peter, your analysis is just amasing. I love the way you get right into the mood of the music you're listening to. And you explain things that I absolutely would have missed. Keep up the great work!
Hi Peter? The whole world reaction community is reacting to Dimash and Placido Domingo singing a duet at the V4+ 2023 and the people who's opinion I regard the most worthy react to anything but?
Dan is so versatile. He can sing anything from opera to hard metal. Wish you would do a reaction to Gethsemeane or his new one witch is a metal rendition of My Heart Will Go On. Hope that once you go the rabbit hole you will do more reactions to Dan.
Oh my goodness how annoying are you ! it's building into the most exciting music and what do you keep doing... stopping it....oh my goodness Peter.... 🤣😂🤣I know I know that's why your here but sometimes, not very often, but sometimes...your so annoying.... ha ha i'm not really annoyed .... Sounds very much like Mike Oldfield dipped into writing this in those last few mins.......
