there's an actual explanation to this! Food companies started adding those sorts of vitamins to EVERYTHING because scurvy and rickets were such problems.

@@Gabu_ It was started in the 1920s (for the US) because poor people couldn't afford fruit and sugary garbage has always been cheaper. This still holds true.

A lack of fruit doesn't cause vitamin C deficiency. It's just the easiest source of vitamin C. Fresh meat and some vegetables have vitamin C. It's why explorers and poor people were more likely to get scurvy - dried/salted meat and grains made up their diets, instead of vegetables and fresh meat. And it's why carnivorous humans such as the Inuit and Maasai don't get scurvy. Fresh meat has 2-3% vitamin C, and the low sugar content of their diets lowers the need for vitamin C. Likewise, even consuming fruit cannot save you if you have a high sugar diet. Because glucose and vitamin C use the same pathways into the cells, and too much glucose will prevent vitamin C from being absorbed. The more sugar you eat, the more vitamin C you need. ~A person who got scurvy eating fruit daily because they also put 200g of sugar into their cereal every day

Chilled is not adventurous with food. At all. Normally people see a new food and go "I'd like to try that". Not him. He knows what he likes and he will die eating only those foods. Much like my father. But they have opposing tastes besides fruit which they both agree they won't try. And honestly, I've had 26 different fruits in my lifetime. I only like 6 of them, and my body only likes 3. I like grapes, strawberries, cranberries, cucumber, peppers, tomatoes. My body only likes cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes. Sweet fruits hurt my stomach real bad. So I voluntarily don't eat them. I have at least eaten them before to make this decision. Unlike Chilled who I think ate a banana, found out he was allergic, and decided no sweet fruit ever.

@@LycanFerret I mean, honestly, I'm allergic to bananas, tomatoes, avocado, and a half dozen other things. So I avoid them like the plague, which sucks because I love pasta and guacamole but can't touch them on pain of death. the only food I have regular access to that I won't touch is okra. My folks grew it every year when I was a kid, I had to help pick it too, but I can't eat it. My grandmother made some once, boiled it, and the sight of that stuff scarred me for life. I have taken home road kill and made a good dinner out of it, my friends even liked it (until they found out) but okra is that one thing that I wouldn't eat if someone was threatening my life. Chilled's weird ass diet confuses the hell outta me though. I have apple, pear, and cherry trees in my yard, I can gather walnuts and pecans from my neighbors, I've got a local market where a really nice Korean family imports fruits and vegetables every month. I literally could not limit myself the chilled does. He's missing out on some of the best foods in the world.

@@Amarok1886 I don't understand it, but I /understand/ it. Solely because of my father. He only eats pasta, tacos, bread, potatoes, sausage, ham, ground meat, ribs, pancakes, eggs, apple-based sweets, orange juice, and chocolate. And has for 10 years. He has never tried most fruits, seafood, most meats, most vegetables. He does not eat cheese. He has his select foods he will only consume. Meanwhile I will try everything once. And if I like it and can afford it, I will eat it often. I have had blood, brain, liver, kidney, intestine, spleen, Surströmming, every fruit in the local grocers, every nut, every vegetable, every cheese, most squash and bean items, and a few grains(mostly due to allergies and Celiac's I can't have them all). Of course I mainly focus 8 foods. Liver, ribs, steak, milk, sausage, salami, tomato, peppers. But I have had many others. And will continue to try others I find. But people like my father and Chilled are scared of new foods. So they don't bother.

@@LycanFerret Maybe try new recipes, focus on what he likes an d sneak other things in, that's how i got my grandmother to try venison, meatloaf

@@Amarok1886 I can't even make a soup with garlic or onion in the broth because he picks it up and won't touch it. I've tried making 10% liver burgers and lamb burgers and he can taste it's not normal. He gave me the supertaster gene I have, but he is 1000x pickier than me. I use it to find each and every little taste in a food, and he uses it to avoid 9.9/10 foods.
