The black-headed heron is common in sub-saharan Africa. I mostly spears fish and frogs for food. You have probably watched a heron hunting -- it does not move. When I came upon this black-headed heron in the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, it was in this hunting mode. Well, after filming this stance for 60 seconds I became bored and I pushed the "off" button on the video camera. Just as I did this the heron struck -- too late, I pushed the "record" button -- so I did not record the the actual "catch" on film. In order to provide complete disclosure, i ran the first few seconds after the catch 5 times slower than it was in reality -- so you have a chance to see what is going on. My driver/guide guide was Shaukat Noronha. To view other Franklin Clay Films videos go to www.wxyzvideos.com
