I don't find that happens too often, but I think it's because my cores don't really know where to find tomes in store since they rarely play supports. It CAN happen with another support not checking what lvl you're in doe: does Dazzle really need that lvl 6 (or even 7, 8) if disruptor/AA/lich/wd/... could have gotten their ulti with tome? Check your other support people. He might have a more important ulti than you.
The last point is soo relatable...like there's zero vision on map and cores want supps to deward high ground cliffs with the entire enemy team missing... that's not a deward that's an insta feed. If we somehow get the wards up without feeding then they get dewarded, either way it's gg
if you ward like a dog and wards get dewarded then its 100% on you. Cliffs are not a ward spot unless you intend to hold the location for most of the wards duration.
@@Andytlp If the enemy team is at the same skill level (and they almost always are if you're not a smurf or account buyer or they don't have smurfs or account buyers) there's a 50/50 chance that your ward will get dewarded no matter what because we all watch Dota videos on RU-vid and play at the same skill level. Maybe don't assume the enemy team is always a bunch of idiots that don't know how to deward?

A good strategy for dealing with this situation is to just get some smokes. If your team is baby mode, cowering in your base, while the enemy team isn't actively pushing a lane, you need to get out ASAP, and smokes are the best way to trick your campy cores into coming with you so that you can ward.
Great point about the dust - as a KOTL I'm always on the fringes of a fight, so popping dust is difficult without getting myself into a more disadvantaged position.
Dust has way more range than you think. Its 1050 range, its literally a full screen away. But still there are plenty reasons for the ganking cores to carry some sort of detection.
With most large range supports i stick with sentries majority of the time your team can keep the invi hero in the sentry range, and you can place it from a relatively safe distance
@@SinisterMJ that's not true on multiple levels. first of all its more like 80% of a screen.. and that's the TOTAL area. it's only HALF that distance in any given direction from the caster.. so you saying "its literally a full screen away" is misleading. away from what? not from the caster. the target would have to be 40% of a screen away to be dusted. finally factor in the size of the enemy cluster and you could be having to get even closer than that! suddenly you're 20% of a screen away from danger just trying to reach the target to be dusted.

Also something I hate: When you just warded one side of the map and there are still objectives and the enemy does not have vision and then suddenly your team decides to go on the other side of the map for no reason and they feed because we have no vision there but the enemy does have vision followed by the enemy team dewarding all of my wards because my cores are not alive and then me being out of observer and sentry wards so I literally cant even place wards.
100% no wards in the shop or bag and the cores complain that they have no vision when they totally failed to play where there was vision and protect the wards.
THIS. I can't stress it enough since this feels like the reason we either lose or unnecessarily lengthen the game 70-90% of time. And it's sheer laziness sometimes: "I wanna farm bot cause I'm marginally more bot, even if there's terrible vision and no enemies showing". I feel like the only times a game goes well is if I spam "go top now PLS" when we have vision walking up into enemy jungle. Dota becomes a MSPaint simulator. Oh, and pressing dust, since that gives slightly better results in focusing people's attention to a tower push. Oh, and then there's "no, let's get their offlane tier I first". No, b*tch, just go where the vision ward is, before it expires (LITERALLY EXPIRES, as in 6 minutes of wonderful vision walking up to their jungle). It's like tier II is invulnerable if you don't get all tier Is first.
The problem is some people have this mindset where they feel like they have to interact with the enemy in some way at all times, so they see all this vision top, but no enemies so they instinctually go bottom because that's where a fight will happen and they wanna be ready for a fight at all times. Usually it's one person going bot to do this, and then supports follow them to sit behind them ready for the fight, or supports go to be ready for fight and then cores assume that's where we're playing as a team without any logical critical thought whatsoever. If you go against this grain, your team will fight while you're pushing top, die 4v5 and then blame you for not being there.
may I add to the warding topic, that it's highly frustrating for a Supp to generate vision, but the team refuses to actually protect the vision, so you just lose it 1 minute later to a solo enemy Supp which could have been easily killed, if one or two cores actually protected the vision with the support.
yeah, one of the most annoying things is, your cores complains that there's no wards so you spent gold on sentries to clear that jungle and ward it. But an enemy support comes in alone and dewards it knowing you just dewarded their observers BUT your cores are too freaking busy killing the neutrals to actually protect the vision while an enemy LONE support walking in PLAIN sight clears your newly placed observer ward.
Bruh, just dont place observers on standart spots like highground, you can just place an undewardable obs and be okay with little less vision, but it will stand a lot longer. It's not carry, that should be protecting them, its your responsibility

Cores shouldn't just buy dust if they have free slots, sometimes they should choose dust over certain items that are currently eating up a slot. If you're playing against a critical invis hero post laning stage, it's worth it as a core to get rid of that quelling blade or branch for a dust. As the game goes on, it's sometimes worth foregoing a bracer/null/wb for a dust if it means killing the enemy riki instead of letting him escape.
Hmm would it break the game if they put a new slot for just dust/gem? Not sure, because super late game if slots are a problem those invis heroes become very pesky!

thanks for dc hook, noice As a 3k supp player, I can say, most of the wards I've placed didn't do much, cause my cores see nothing anyways. They won't defend supps if the backline of the teamfight is compromised. They won't react if you tell them you've made a double/triple stack for them, and enemies will farm those stacks much sooner than your core would. They won't fall back if you tell them in voice chat they're in danger right now. The lane sentry will always be dewarded cause your core won't hold the equilibrium, he's gonna right click creeps. So Don't expect them to see the minimap. Allvision would not be enough. The only time they are gonna use wards is for the excuse of whatever mistake they did. "Place a core a ward, and he's gonna blame you anyway when he dies. Mute him, and he's not gonna ask for wards ever again" Confuzi. And when the map is dark, you can be almost sure, they are either doing Roshan or waiting for you to come out, so you don't really need to see them, one scan in roshpit kinda tells you where they are.
the triple stacks is very true ive made a triple stacks in the triple camp in top jungle... next thing you know the enemy is contesting my stacks after 5 minutes later since my core is so late
Best hero for deward is slark. The ult informs you if there are enemy wards, ensuring you dont get ward juked and fail to catch the wards in your sentry.

Not to mention the cores who buy the tome of experience on top of you sacrificing the entire early game for them to be in the advantage then they feed and complain that you did not save then when you are 10 levels or more behind.

2:18 is exactly what happened to me several times, and this core had 2-3 empty slots and REFUSED to buy dust, and kept on crying "only supp should buy dust" and kept flaming me, but not the other supp because he was in his party. I even explained it to him why it is better to just get at least 1 dust, but no, it felt like I was talking to a parrot.
I feel dust is more effective on frontliners and less on backliners, so having it on you, is not about whether someone is a support of a carry. It's more about your position in relation to the position of the invis enemy.
At the lower MMRs cores not protecting the wards is infuriating. They fucking see the enemy support go into their jungle to deward and just continue hitting their neutral camp instead of stopping that shit. Blows my mind.

A safe lane carry told me, a pos5, to leave him alone and not take his xp during the laning phase. I got fed up and left and the dude immediately died asking me why I wasn't helping him.
thats actually your fault. He woulvd asked u to let him soak solo XP till enemy returns to lane not to completely abandon him. Im telling you this as a support main myself. You should let your core soak solo if there is no immediate danger and come back when wave is pushing out or if u notice enemies missing
@@FarazMazhar how does that matter? supports are stronger in early game. they only need 2 levels max to set up lane kills. If I get a kill at level 1-2 also I will leave the lane to stack creeps or pull waves. whats most important is your carry needs to get level 6 before their carry. then he goes to kill the creeps you stacked and then you can get solo XP + tomes. really good supports dont even need the catchup XP they will just gank other lanes immediately and get levels through kills.
@@FarazMazhar probably because you're leeching the exp which could help your core farm. if you only there leeching exp on the lane that the core has to ask you to leave then it is your fault.
I really like to just shove some dust in my cores(and pos4 if necessary) inventories with my courier after checking if they have space and then pinging it in their inventories to notify them when I'm playing 5 xD that mostly fixes the invis problems :D

Yeah I am also annoyed at those Carries who dont even wanna win buying detection Items vs Mirana, Riki or other Invis Heroes.. and wards are useless u plant them down and they dont see the fvcking mini map.. man they have a blind eye towards that minimap.. been supporting and still I suck and my team even worst 4 cores 1 support.. wtf..
bad core: noooooo you are supposed to place the wards i have to farm nooooo also bad core: goes exactly where there's no vision, conveniently forgets wards are free.
guys vision is free, support is not naturally traveling through the entire map with 350 ms to place the best obs, also if they show wards in their inventory it is easy for enemy to track your support trajectory and get full information about where exactly wards were placed. If you buy 1 or 2 of those free wards you will be able to better place them (because you farm in so many places and move faster across the map) and enemies will not deward them so easily
Nice video.. I am literally sending the link to this video to my cores every single time I am blamed for any of these. I tried to explain to my cores so many times for exactly these situations, but they never listen. Maybe it is becuase I am just 2,5k shit and they are as well. I have hopes they will take it from you, Jenkins. Sometimes I feel like I am trying to support people that don't deserve it. Supports life is hard life. However, sometimes it is really nice to meet friendly cores that actually even thank you for your job, forgive your mistakes, give advices (express their needs) instead of just flaming. you didn't mention the most important point for the warding section. When I ward our triangle or the enemy safelane jungle and then my cores don't go there to farm and the enemy just kills our wards for free because i'm a support and cant contest. It feels really shitty especially when my cores tp to our safelane and get ganked within 30 seconds of their tp.
Hey Jenkins - Great video. As a person who started off playing core then drifting off to support main (mainly because no one else wanted to play the role), I think you hit the nail on the head. It's so frustrating playing support in lower tiers because the only thing that people consider success in 2-4K MMR is the amount of kills and having the least amount of deaths (essentially a 5's worst enemy). Anyway, I am guilty of doing some of these things. P.S Love your voice chat wheel in D2 "That is absolutely no what I was expecting" .. makes me giggle each time i hear it. Back in the days of vanilla WoW days we used to joke about how our guild turbo-tards couldn't avoid boss mechanics and explained to them that it was like standing in front of a moving bus. Would you stand stationary in front of a moving bus? Of course not, so avoid the moving objects. Your panther in the blackness is a very good metaphor.
I spectated a game a friend of mine was playing, where he was playing Centaur and was doing fine. The Jugg on his team, though, who was by far the highest farm in the game, kept complaining that Centaur should buy an AC, and that they began losing fights because of the lack of armor that AC provides. The enemy team had a Razor, who, EVERY single fight was static linking Jugg at the start. 4 fights in a row, Jugg got static linked, made no attempt to break the link, and used Omnislashed while the static link debuff was still active. So basically, every single fight the team with the Jugg as its hard carry had no omnislash, and no damage output from his right clicks either. Even in the post game lobby, after they'd lost, he was STILL complaining that the lack of AC on Centaur is why they lost, demonstrating he doesn't understand how Omnislash damage works, and/or he doesn't understand why static link works.

Hi Jenkins! I was 90% agreed with you this video contents. However, in some certain scenario cases, like my supports RANDOMLY buying all the wards/sentries and they RANDOMLY placed them in the wrong spot on the map. I would be happy if there are some extra vision/sentries on the shops, so I can help myself to place wards in mid lane for Runes control and place in the enemy jungle to farm up. It's only the case, when i'm party with my friend and play with 3 random stacks.
Finally, someone said it. Awesome Video. Problem is - some players think they are great carry/core without realizing they are not ready yet for that. I believe to be a good carry/core, one have to learn and be a good support first.

I had a guy flaming me and my friend for not buying wards while that same guy was instantly buying them and denying them. He even held philosophers all game. Some people are literally so bad that they develop a scapegoat to blame for the loss while playing the game, because they know they're terrible and already are anticipating a loss.
Happened to me too one game he was a rubick player. Funniest part was he kept saying report axe (he started doing it minute 8 or something because apparently I was cutting lane and denying him xp he needed for 6 like wtf)
Sups and cores have a parent-child relationship. At the beginning the core is attached to the sups, depends on them for most everything, then they reach their adolescence and start to disregard the sup, farming where they shouldn’t, being stupidly positioned and and blaming everything on the sups when they often are the one sabotaging themselves. After comes the adulthood, where the cores are more independent and the sups are old and weak in comparison to the cores, but still essential. At this stage the cores realized how important their sups truly were and are, missing them dearly when they are no longer around or incapable of having presence. They resent the sups for leaving them alone, while they were the ones pushing them away, but when they are truly gone, all that’s left is the longing for the sups and an empty hole …where the enemy comes and buttfucks ur base.
I seriously hope cores can see this! I am a support player out of 50 games I play 49 supports and suffered all what was mentioned in this video. Man~ Sometimes I just throw the game or just don't ever help our core who's being very toxic. Also as why I only play 49 supports out of 50 game, that's single draft I have no choice but to pick a carry than to pick invoker xD! Philippines internet connection man!
Another point with warding, there are instances when supps dont place sentries and just obs wards, leading to constant dewards and no vision. Seen it happen sometimes when you have a zeus teammate. Like they will rely all the time zeus will be the one to deward and just place obs wards.
Out of the 1000 players that need to understand these things, only 5-10 take this advice to heart. Even if one side of the map is warded, but cores decide to go on the dark side of the map - they always blame supports for no vision. Because hey, they died because they could not see the enemy coming and not surely because they went to THE MOST DANGEROUS AREA IN ALL THE KINGDOMS. I have around 900 Pudge games, a dragonclaw hook would look so nice when I miss my hooks.
with vision being such an essential aspect of the game, I usually buy an early sod, keep it in stash until 2 to night time where I'd go solo sod or with another support and do a pre night time deep warding or close to their tier 1 tower (objectives). This gives you an early vision of enemy supports who most probably are the ones carrying wards. From then on, you only have to guess where they place their obs/sents.
Just happened in a recent game...the spectre HC was the only back in the base, while the team was out pushing top. ALL the enemies went missing and the spec still runs to the safelane OF ALL places to farm the wave then immediately complains that there was no vision. We were all like..."We were all top taking their tier 2...why would you walk out into the SAFElane with no vision then?" (which of course, become the dangerous lane when tier 1 and especially tier 2 are down which they both were in this case). Some people act like their stupid decisions are another player's fault and it's mind boggling and frustrating. I'd say something like 40-60 percent of my losses in Ranked are because of things like that. People are feeding because they are being careless and cocky.
im playing weaver support at the moment (getting flamed/abused hard but have only lost 1 game out of 10) - im gonna recommend this video to every core that says im not doing my job next time - whether or not they watch it is another thing XD im tryna get your videos out there jenkins and make dota a better community ! My biggest pet peeve at the moment is teammates pushing mid while the enemy has taken our post. Even when the enemy has left the area, teammates leaving pos 5 to die trying to turn the post back. Or that one teamate that keeps farming in the dark next to a post without turning the post back to us, gets killed and moan about lack of wards. You were next to our biggest ward, you just had to turn it back to us?!?! The post is a teleporter to our base and gives us vision, why would anyone in their right mind leave it to the enemy?!?!
when i know certain area are warded i often asked my cores to do smoke, and go wrap around those area, most of the time the result is good, deward and some free kill, IF the core want to smoke
I remember once a kunka getting mad at me for getting an Ultra Kill with CM's ult with IO's help, he was saying i stole the kills from him. 5 seconds before that happen he rushed 5 enemies alone and died and some how that is my fault.
I hope more carries watch this video HAHAHA This video is my rant to people who think our playstyle is questionable. Just watched this now; As someone who mains pos 5 I'd add to the no wards on the map to say that I'd rather not try to risk my life to take space that we can't even hold. I don't like spending 200 gold just to see a support we can't kill destroy it. If an anti-mage with a literal get out of jail card is scared to go out, then what more the 200 hp lion without blink.
It became my habit to ping my spells that are on cool down when I was 2k, since it’s people’s first instinct to check other people’s spells and items after they die. What’s crazy is that I’m 4K now and people still don’t trust their teammate can press buttons.
It is not people first instinct to do that, that is a micromanager toxic behaviour, I have never once done that. Also, I lost the count on how many times I got pinged on spells that just came off cooldown after the person died, or had a short cooldown and in fact was used and by the time he checked it was up again, or he died as I was trying to ge in range to use it. When you die, the healthy behaviour is to try to find out what you did wrong and collect intel for the team, not be toxic trying to find someone to blame.
Thank you for this, cause I love it when I stack and pull for my carries only to be blamed when they die. I also love it when they're lvl 12 and spam buying tome every 10 mins against lvl 5 supps who just wants to have his/her ult. I also fucking love it when I get flamed and blamed that there's no vision on the map like they expect that no one out of the 2 supps on the enemy team would deward. That's why I think the Ward Scores system in League should be implemented in dota.
Playing Support will really help improve your Core gameplay. Learning gamesense, positioning and knowing why your Supports do certain things and when they should be doing them will help you play around timings and know when to stop farming and start fighting, even if you aren't 6-slotted yet. Back when I used to play Dota, I was the (unwilling) Support main, but every time I'd get to play Core, I'd outperform my dedicated Core friends, simply because I knew how to make my Support teammate's job easier. The only thing that you'll have to learn on your own is how much you can get away with, and that only comes with Core experience. Sometimes, it's ok to be greedy, you just have to know when and that's a skill you can't really develop as a Support in pubs.
OH my fucking god hearing about the warding issue is so cathartic. So many of my games as 5, the enemy team is babysitting their P4-5 as they deward everything I've put on the map, while I'm begging, asking for any form of grouping so that I can safely get vision. I promptly receive no reply, or hear something rapidly gibbered at me in Spanish, and I just know I'm fucked. I have to push into our own jungle by myself, with no vision, knowing that the enemy Spirit Breaker fucking sees me on the ward he placed just a minute ago, KNOWING I'm about to get collapsed on, KNOWING I'm about to feed both myself and an observer, all because my cores keep bitching that there's no vision. And assuming I'm still alive at this point, I now have to contest the ward I just placed in a 1v3 situation, LOSING THE VISION ANYWAYS. Observers are free. If you can impact the map with your lead, for the love of God, just please buy an observer once in a while. A fed, farmed carry can place them far more safely than a P4-5 ever will. A fed, farmed carry warding with their team might just end up inevitably catching the enemy P4-P5, because you're denying them vision and their team is bitching at them to ward.
I feel the dust thing, if anything the cores should carry dust, especially the tankier cores because they are always in the middle of the fight closer to the enemy and therefore have an easier time landing a good dust.
Jenkings, your videos have honestly made me a much better player, personally im best and love to be pos 3, and then pos 1, since I like to initiate and get into trouble (because I understand my capabilities). sentries are SO FUCKING CHEAP, obs are literally free. if you solo or duo queue, assume the rest of the world against you. pick heroes that you know how to play, but most importantly, don't wait for supports to be reliable. specially in West EU since Russians love to queue here and role queue as pos4,5 and play core carries (honestly we need region locks, increasingly with low pings we are getting across distant servers)
i like the last point the most, " protect your supports when they ward". i agree with this...but, thats not gonna happen, its just not. so i need a strategy that works under the premise that the incorrect thing is ALWAYS gonna happen and i need to exist with a "still good or at least decent" strategy. you know, strategies for when the correct play wont be made.
I don't even play DOTA, i play League and still got recommended this video. And holy SHIT as a support player this infuriates me. While the exact moments are not the same, the concepts still work across the game
That last one! Im a support player. And i hate nothing more then a bland "no wards" Well duh theres no wards! We are in base, t1 and t2 gone, and Ive died twice trying to get vision up while the cores farm in front of the enemy t2, and thrn die. Im not going out there randomly putting up vision! Iwill only do do if you come along, so we can protect eachother!
I feel number 4... I've had sooo many matches lately where my carries bitch and moan because of no vision. Only because they don't protect me when I place wards. Then in turn I lose gold to buy other items because I have to buy wards AGAIN.
Regarding #2) As a midlaner in mid/lategame, I feel like itemslot is an issue for me not wanting to have dust in my inventory. Sometimes it is already hard to fit in an aegis, then I rarely prioritize a dust. Although I play turbo mainly, leading to full items very often :) Regarding #4) About protecting the support, it is also important for the support to ask for help when dewarding/warding a dangerous position. Often I see teammate supports run acrossmap up highgrounds to ward somewhere and get killed, while they would have survived easily if they just asked for help with protection for 30seconds

I'm sometimes getting blamed on my 4000mmr that I'm carrying 3-5 wards and stacking them or that there's no vision and no wards in shop BECAUSE EVERYTHING I PLACED GOT DEWARDED, OR THERE'S NO WAY TO WARD IN COMPLETE DARKNESS ALONE AND NOBODY HELPS ME! Or* I go ward. Get jumped on, die, my ward breaks, what's the point. And it's me who's guilty. That doesn't tilt me though. Just observation :D Soloq pos5 55%wr btw
One reason why I like supporting one of my friends, he doesn't do any of this stuff. He's even specifically told me to try to pull both heroes into the jungle even if I feed just so he can get some cs without being harassed. But I think the big thing is just that we communicate to each other a lot when we play
I always voice my spells are on cooldown, don't have mana, silenced, or not near them... even once that I was dead and couldn't join the fight on the other side of the map. Most have tunnel vision. Speak the truth Jenkins!
Hi Jenkins, Dragonclaw Hook is not my purpose in writing this. I don't know if you will read this but I just want to share. I usually play support (either 4 or 5), I was optimistic when I started grinding MMR since less than one year ago and reached Ancient 5 couple months ago and it's just one more step to Divine. But unfortunately, I had to reached Legend 5 because most of the games I had, people choose bad draft for offlane, and cores underestimated BKB (which I think is one of the most important item in teamfight these days) and didn't buy it when there were so many disablers which I think their logic is to just buy damage items to kill enemy while my logic says how would you even land a hit when you get multiple disables. So after playing as support since DotA 1 era, while doing my best to keep my mentality stable with those cores I met, I lost my motivation and recalibrated my MMR for the first time. My point is, I hope you can continue this video with the things core players do which ruin a game, not to blame but as a good lesson. By the way I met a lot of those kind of players in case 1, which only blame without being able to use their head to think and introspect themselves.
