14:32 minutes in... when another reseller reaches out to "correct" me on a listing... I have received about 1/2 dozen over the years and I have been so GRATEFUL! They were kind enough to reach out and spend a moment of their time and wisdom for me. I haven't returned a similar favor only because I haven't needed to do so.
I sell glassware and sometimes mis-identify items. Passionate collectors are wonderful about informing me of my mistake and I am happy to be able to then make the correction to the listing.
Did it last week. Ebayer had something listed. Wrong company, wrong country even. Let her know how to read the backstamp and she was really grateful. Often it’s how you couch it. I was all airy “ hi there, I’m about the post this myself and I noticed……. Blah blah blah. We sellers gotta look out for each other, don’t want a nastygram from eBay eh”
I have been contacted by other sellers when I’ve made a mistake in my listing and I’ve always been grateful! And I even once asked a seller about their listing that didn’t match the photos. They also thanked me. Intent matters I think. If you’re trying to help it comes across a lot different than when you’re just being an a$$.
Thank you for this information! I literally just had that to happen to me this morning . I've really been enjoying listening to you guys. So much helpful information. Thank you!
I do message sellers if I notice a mistake. But only if it’s something that potentially get a negative. I want everyone to succeed on eBay. And I like to help if I notice something they possibly missed. 95% of the time they’re appreciative but of course there are those few people that of course think you’re trying to get one over on them.
I have absolutely sent out notes when I note a mistake and the sellers thanked me. And I have had a few instances where a buyer or seller pointed out an error to me, and I was incredibly grateful to them for that.
This was updated shortly after they added Ground Advantage. In the past First Class Mail is that 1oz-15.999 otherwise had to go to Priority Shipping.. They then combined First Class into Ground Advantage along with new Cubic Rate for things 1lb or higher so also make sure the dimensions of your box are correct on anything 1lb or higher. eBay may have updated their interface to better show this information since it was about a few months ago I noticed Cubic Rate being show on labels over 1lb where as before it showed weight.
Thanks! Started watching this while shipping and you already saved me five bucks. I would have never known about the change and always rounded up since first class went away.
Driving Daughters: our family was living out of the US as each of my daughters turned 16, so didn’t learn until they were adults and back in the US. As it happened, neither Japan nor Italy (where we were living) would let unlicensed Teens learn to drive in their respective countries. As a father, I was fine with it. 😉
I always email seller if I see something not as described. I was waiting to buy jeans and size description was my size. But tag shown in picture was a different size. I have come across a few clothing items like that. They are always thankful!!
I know back in the 70s plastic models were sealed. I know this because back then I was a kid and I would sometimes sneakily open a kit I wanted so I could look over the instructions. Never at the hobby shop. I only did this dishonest move at K-Mart and Gemco, a membership chain of stores in southern California that sold everything. They were like a Walmart Supercenter, but a lot more awesome.
Noticed the USPS change yesterday, I also always enter different weights and dimensions to see what it would cost. Sent a message to a seller to try and warn them about a Vero for selling a seashell , of all things. They refused to take it down or at least change the structure of the title. I wish someone would have warned me ! You cannot sell or use the words Bahama Pink , Conch Shell. They are on the endangered species list, which if you've never taken a look at, is quite extensive. A seller contacted me once as I had the date wrong on an old Higbees tag, it was older than I thought and I did appreciate the information and corrected it. Make no mistake there are buyers out there looking to pounce on mistakes ! I'm currently waiting on a return , buyer claimed a film splicer has no razor blade. I explained to her in great detail it has a built in carbon steel cutter and there where no razor blades involved in the 1940s. I think she was waiting to see if she could keep it and get a refund. No can do on this one !
14:25 I usually contact sellers when I notice mistakes in their listings (while looking for comps as I list my items) and most of the time I get a nice answer. I won't contact them if I notice that their feedback is terrible :) Cheers, Julien
With motel kit you can bundle as a lot of loose pieces and they will always sell. They are use to costomiz other item kit or other cars. All decal also are sold in lot
I have sent out messages to other sellers that they listed the wrong version. I've also had messages telling me my listing is the wrong version. I had a bunch of bakugans and someone helped me understand the difference and how collectible one is compared to the other.
I thought about contacting a seller once about an item they called vintage. I knew it wasn't vintage because I know the brand really well, but I didn't say anything and regret it.
In the beginning of the video, you were looking at retail rates. If you look at commercial rates you'll see different prices for the 15.9 / 1lb weights. Btw, on eBay, if you put in 15oz for a 15.9oz package, the USPS isn't going to do a shipping rate adjustment because you will have paid sufficient postage. You'd only hear from the USPS if you underpaid.
@@liveandletlive9333 my point is that the USPS will never care of the label weight doesn't match the actual weight UNLESS you've underpaid. Since 15oz and 15.5 oz ship at the same price there's absolutely no reason why they would care.
I'm not sure that they wouldn't care about the weight and I also wouldn't trust them not to just round up then charge you retail priority or something stupid like that.
Just ran into this. It was exactly 15 oz before I put on the label (and tape). It probably went to 15.1 oz. Which, of course, rounds up to 1 lb. It made over $2 difference! I thought about opening the package and cutting part of the box flaps off but we had a guest and hubby said just mail it, since the buyer did pay for it. I just hate losing $2 over a fraction of an ounce!
I did a lot of shipping this weekend and UPS beat out USPS prices 50% of the time (usually ship 95% through USPS). USPS is getting pricey. A lot of increases for 1-4lbs
I noticed this too and now I try to keep things under 15oz and if it’s between 15 and 16 I just copy the address and use Shipstation for those packages and it’s the cheaper rate there. I know not everyone has this option so it sucks for those that don’t. Maybe it’s just something Ebay overlooked and if you contact them they can get their people on it to fix it. I’m sure it’ll be fixed in less than 2 years. Haha
Fairly often I find myself messaging eBay sellers, mostly about errors in their listings which I feel could lead to an INAD or buyer scam. Most often, they essentially tell me to get lost/they know what they're doing. But occasionally, like the last couple of times... they write back/thanking me, and immediately make changes in the listing!
The postal rate increases just went into effect. It affected eBay's negotiated terms for shipping rates with USPS. This is part of the results of that.
Another big change with ebay is cubic inch rate. I have to really watch what size box i grab now when shipping out orders. Cutting the box down just a couple inches can save $10. Its crazy!
I messaged a seller once to point out he'd spelt something wrong and might affect his chances of selling it. He replied saying dont ever message me again. I replied saying oh damn I thought we were going to be best friends. More recently had a better response pointing out the film the t shirt a seller had listed was referencing they updated the title and thanked me
eBay Shipping Page Change: that is very strange and a good catch by the Water Cooler. Strange change. Like you, I’ve always just rounded up to 4, 8, 12 &. 16 ounces. I’ll have to watch as I pack this week. Please update if you figure out who made the change: eBay or USPS. Could just be a glitch by Pitney Bowes putting in the 14 July USPS software changes. 😉
I didn't know you could email sellers. I've caught so many mistakes just looking at stuff. Some guy had square containers described as round because he never took them out of the box. Some people come off as sloppy sellers.
I try not to send those messages, people tend to be high strung sometimes. I did the same thing when a guy messaged me yesterday Lonnie. It was a vintage board game. The title and description both say incomplete wysiwyg. No pieces just box, board, and inserts/manuals. Missing counters and pcs. The guy messaged saying “you’re missing about 100 pieces there bub” I wasn’t super nice
When you're explaining you can't put in 15.7 ounces it says on that screen right under use whole numbers so 13.3oz would be 14oz, been like that a while.
I noticed that weight change with higher price increase so immediately changed weight to 15 oz. People... highly highly unlikely USPS system catches that weight discrepancy.
Do you use the discount rate in listing or full retail price of shipping? Obvious lower shipping cost to customers is great, but paying fees on discount shipping is an added expense
I always appreciate when another seller or even buyer messages me about a listing that is incorrect. If I am wrong I am wrong and I need to fix it. Better than eBay dinging me cause I messed up.
I’ve had sellers and buyers reach out to me when I try to sell an electronic toy that relies on an App to let me know the App is no longer available and the toy is basically useless…..
Wierd thing I ran into today was a listed 1 pound item and buyer paid $6 and change for Ground Advantage shipping. My cost was $5.99. Luckily it was only 15 ounces and my cost dropped to $5.07. Seems odd that their cost was so close to my cost.
I'm not sure what you are saying, but the post office's own rate charts have fractional ounces on them and you can buy fractional ounce postage from pirate ship among others.
I have notified sellers about mistakes on their listings before probably about twice they were ok about it 😊. And as with your listing definitely a Troll 😅
