Most amazing players are not particularly good teachers. Most fantastic teachers might not be very inspiring players... you got it all man!!! My favorite guitar teacher!!!
Your choice of songs is always great. I know the song already but it sounds better more groovy when you play it. Congrats. I am a happy Patreon supporter.
Pilgrim;I have been waiting for ever for you to give us this. Robert Cray - guitarists guitarist and amazing vocalist (as are you)- and this fabulous arrangement. If it sounds like fan mail.. it is. Today is the best day.
Wow! Awesome and I agree, learning how to play this song your way means you're already advanced guitar player, look how many skills is there involved and chords mix... wow. Just beautiful! Thanks
That's exactly the type of guitar playing I enjoy most! Have been trying to incorporate it into playing with the band but this doesn't always work good. This task was accomplished successfully by legends like Hendrix or John Mayer Trio - the kind of arrangement where it works is really rare and requires a lot of skill
Awesome. I was learning this song a couple of days before this video came out and this really helped me improve my playing. Thank you very much for sharing.
Really nice playing there. Robert Cray was the first strat player I noticed using the 4 position on the pickups. Knew a few that were using the 2 position. So great job even including that little detail.
Oh how beautifully you play this groovy masterpiece, your Strat has the perfect tone for it. I can also imagine you playing Sultans of Swing. People would think you were Mark Knoffler from afar... 👌🤌🤘👏❤
Great song to highlight both picking and fretting hand dynamics. Also a great choice to highlight a song with rhythm and lead/solo......not different from Hendrix's strongest attributes. Also, great job of showing the "flavor" of variations, noting that tension in the right hand will restrict he picking/strumming feel. Great video!!
Now that was awesome Thom! Obviously, very complex and difficult to play. I know that you don't do much with Jazz guitar. However, you should look up Joe Pass and watch a few of his videos. One of my all time favorite guitarist! No one played like Joe! Hope that you & your family are doing well! 👍👍🎸🎸
This is my favorite lesson by you and you’ve had some amazing offerings over the years. I’ve been a Robert Cray fan for the last 37 years. The basic rhythm (without the vamp) as you finger pick is reminiscent of some of the Bossa Nova patterns I’ve picked up along the way. It’s interesting to note how readily we can overlap genres like R&B, Funk, Blues, & Bossa Nova.
I’m interested in how you hold your pick? I’m experimenting with different ways of holding it atm. Do you hold it differently depending on the technique? I think I can see you get quite a lot of motion from your thumb whilst strumming with a pick. Great video, thanks!
Great lesson as always. I like resting my palm on the bridge and can’t get past the volume knob getting in the way. How do you avoid hitting the volume knob?
Can you play THIS riff? Anyway you could do the James Burton lead electric guitar intro, solo and fills from the Judy Collins version of Someday Soon as found on the studio album Who Knows Where the Time Goes? NOT the Buddy Emmons Steel parts ... a LOT of vids out there on that ... but NOBODY on YT has ever done the James Burton stuff. That is a shame because this tune REALLY helped to get Country Rock rolling back in the day.
Hi Thom how are you Please man I'm begging you i have questions about you I wanna know your hands size length from line that separate your wrist from hand to top of middle finger in (cm) and if you can sent me pictures while measuring it or tell me i would really appreciate it please man I'm keeping asking this question for years I really love your channel and your guitar playing I'm a guitarists as well and that would really help me thank you 🌹✌️❤️
1:34, the first chord. what is that? I can't really see which fingers are down and which are floating? I wish he used an overlay like Scott Paul Johnson
