This was just me sharing an experience about a recent challenge I presented myself with. Try not to adopt a mindset of "I could never do that". Right now we need our community to be filled with the mindset of "I can overcome any challenge". Even if we fail along the way, admitting failure before you're faced with an obstacle is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Want to see other stuff about the channel? www.MagicPrepper.com
Weird timing I just did a 48 hour fast that ended yesterday evening! Actually felt pretty good because my diet has changed over the last few months(high protein low carb/sugar).
Honestly, I think that your videos are much better than most just because you don't show off the new bobcat or tractor. Your perspective and opinion combined with your building of knowledge is exactly why I watch your channel. Other creators have turned their channel into a rant/complaint department and nobody likes a complainer. Keep up what you're doing, we all love it.
Oh wow, I haven't eaten since last night. That's about 18 hours so far. How appropriate. Just hydrate. I cleaned my father's property and got a family member into a place that they could stay long term, finished the job in time while getting a broken foot the first day.
haha that reminds me of a time I helped a friend get a wood stove. Stepped on a rusty old nail right in the middle of doing it. Just kept it going because what else are you going to do?
Fasting is as overlooked as working out and staying fit. M, W, F every week I ate nothing for 24 hours, every W I also drank no water. I did this for personal reasons and offered everything up. I did this for one year. It really changed my body, but that change in me was small compared to my new perspective. There were many 12:01 days early on when I ate! I am in my 50's. If at all possible, put that experience and new perspective in your back pocket. Great advice MP. Good video.
I'm currently going through the stopping smoking battle. I'm on day 5 & boy oh boy the cravings have been strong & i was thinking i just needed to make it past day 3, right now, i hate everybody (more so than normal) but at this point i'll make it, so long as the mind says strong.
I was raised dirt poor. I've lived on pancake mix ,macaroni with butter and salt ,and pork and beans. I've had to treat serious cuts and burns. I learned how to fix everything I had and to eat anything that was available. I went without heat in the winter and cooling in the summer. If I had to get anywhere, it was the bike,or walk. Good luck everyone.
I turned the circuit breakers to the HVAC off 2 years ago. Had the municipal water shut off months ago because of a leak between the meter and the house.
I bet you learned a lot of valuable skills throughout the struggle. A struggle some people have never experienced. That will be hard for them if they are ever forced into it.
The longest forced food fast was last year for 4 mths. I lived off liquids. I drank protein shakes until I could no longer get them down on the 4th month. I spent that month living off water and tea until I could not get those down, and then I checked myself into the ER. I was in full-blown malnutrition and dangerous dehydration because I hadn't drunk in two days. I have a Schatzki ring in my esophagus that completely closed off at the end of the 4 mths. The doctor found it in April 2023 and took a month to find a GI doctor who would touch me. His earliest appointment was on August 26th, 2023. I went to ER on July 21st 2023. I have had two esophageal stents and am getting a 3rd one in November this year. This was all caused by acid reflux. I don't recommend following my path if you have chronic heartburn. Go to your doctor!! I waited 15 yrs to go. I blame myself. I lost lots of muscle that I am working to get back.
0:56 Fasting is so easy. An 18 to 20 hours fast is extremely easy. Even a 3 day fast is doable without intense mental struggle. It’s hard to respect someone who can’t bear to miss a meal
i dont get how people are such puds abt it. I usually eat once a day, dinner around 6-7. If i eat twice its a little snack before bed. People eat way too much.
I did a 48 hour water fast last week and it was fine. People are weak minded. Stopped all alcohol, sugar etc…. Went straight edge just to see how it affected me. Fasting like that every 6 months will resolve a fatty liver as well, go MP GO!
Alcohol is one of the worst things I've ever introduced into my life. Same as cigarettes. Track and field and skateboarding, MMA. All types of shit. I broke my back and instead of meds, I drank liquor. Lots and lots of liquor. 10 years later I'm almost clean. I've more important things in my life than my pain. It will never go away. But pain and discipline is life now. I enjoy it. And I enjoy being sober now. I couldn't say that 5 years ago.
Thank you Magic for bringing this up. In April, after taking time to wean myself off of medicine that I no longer needed but required me to have eaten first, I also challenged this misconception in myself, that I just couldn't fast. I took time during a break from work, to fast for 3 days. I was amazed at how easy it was and that I didn't get a headache, which was my fear. I lost some pounds (which made me happy), got control of my "wanter" and also could see how this would enhance my prayer life. I now fast 2 non consecutive days per week and have seen continued weight loss and have also seen a decrease in the food bill. I'm thankful that I have challenged myself BEFORE it is a necessity. Getting off of the pharmaceutical train will also be adventageous for all of those that can safely do so. Thank you Magic for taking this road and speaking about it ❤️.
I never went 48, 24 is no problem now, l actually started to lose weight and it worked and l began to like the feeling of being hungry, of course knowing food is available makes it easier. Look l might piss people off but no one reads my comments anyway. Hardly anyone is ready for a conflict, you can’t think you flip a switch, you have to make yourself suffer and most people won’t. Hopefully it doesn’t happen.
If you're taking any medicine. Fasting for a couple of days, is probably not a good idea. The medicine might tear up the lining of your stomach. If you don't eat for a couple of days. If you're not taking any medicine, you'd probably be ok. Just make sure you drink enough water during your fast. 😊
When I was a boy scout I was able to take part in a camping trip that heavily limited our food the first day, fasted the second and then got break our fast lunch of the third day with a celebration feast. This was when I was in high school and while we were there we had to do physical tasks like cleaning up camp gathering wood and learning survival skills, had story time around a huge bon fire the second night, basically kept us busy while also showing us what we could do on very little food. One of my favorite memories of all the times getting to go camping. when you are working and keeping busy you don't notice the hunger. It's when you stop and allow yourself to get bored that you notice it and your willpower starts to get sapped. I also distinctly remember after the "feast" I probably ate about half of what I normally would have, but my stomach had shrunk so much, I was absolutely stuffed. For a healthy human fasting is quite good for the body.
I loved Boy Scouts. Taught me a lot of important lessons. I agree that if you're doing something uncomfortable, staying busy is key to getting through it.
The roughest fasts I’ve experienced have been after 48 hours of no food or water. Your bones and joints hurt constantly. If you’re just doing a food fast the body usually goes into a sort of autopilot after the first 48 hours. The dreams of eating are also particularly devious 😂 On a separate note, I’ve noticed with myself that during and after fasting I have very low tolerance for conversations that aren’t productive or meaningful.
When I first heard of fasting, it sounded impossible, but eventually I was able to do it. I think we get too comfortable in these "easy life" patterns and don't realize how attainable these things are. 😅
Why is being hungry intentionally an accomplishment lol They do this in the military for training, but they don't just fast. They starve, and they're actively training. Drills, marches, etc. "I can go three days w/out eating" cool, now go three days w/out eating, then run 5 miles, fight off a bear, ruck 20. Did you survive that? That's where it counts.
@@codyschaffer7788 The opposite is true. Our ancestors didn't eat three meals a day. It's an inefficient use of your digestive system. Fasting only seems like a problem from the false perspective that three meals a day is the norm. Also, once your body adapts you don't reallky get hungry.
@@USA-Self-Defense-Centers yeah you sound like somebody who's just tried yoga and now has to prostleatize about all the magical benefits it has even though we've known about stretching forever Fasting: try it to actually know how it feels -- it has no use in prepping. The point of prepping in the first place is to outlast whatever starving hoards descend on you later on. If you, for some reason, decided to go w/out food for 3 days just to make it last, and then the mauraders roll up on you, you've actually put yourself in a horrible situation lol. Just food for thought. I guess a lot of you literally haven't been hungry before
I attended two SERE courses while in the Army. It is easy to go without food as long as you have water. After three days you are eating every thing that the instructors told you to look for. It’s is good training to fast as long as you are in the right mindset. Enjoy testing your limits! TRAIN DONT COMPLAIN!!! CSM Chapa
I did a 72 hr not long ago for the same reason. . curiosity. I cheated with caffeine and nicotine but it wasn't the end of the world lost ten lbs that I rapidly regained
If u lost 10lbs in 72hrs it was probably mostly food in your gut and water. U probably pooped out everything and got dehydrated to lose that weight that fast😂. Did u take a bunch of big dumps 😂
I’ve done the same thing. I get grumpy when I haven’t eaten in over a day. I used that experience to check my attitude the next time. I also dropped back to 2 meals a day for awhile and did hard manual labor on our farm. Its sucked, I know what it feels like now. It’s important to test your limits just like gear.
I fasted for five days once when we missed an airdrop on a climbing trip in northern Canada. We carried our packs our across the Continental Divide, and crossed a flooded river on the way out. I've run marathons and ultra marathons. Climbed Denali, and in the Himalayas. Rowed the Grand Canyon and a hundred other rivers. Built a house with hand tools in the wilderness. Packed horses. I have no idea how SHTF will play out. But I'm not too worried about it.
Great topic.I have done sleep deprivation in 2 week cycles and as low as 200 calories a day. I functioned better at 400 to 800. Fatigue/ sleeping will get you in trouble in a "lone" protector scenario. Cognitive processes are affected for sure. I found out how much ALL of your systems are affected. I learned a lot.
I've done this before when I was younger but may need to test again here at this age. I 100% believe sleep deprivation is much more difficult to manage than food deprivation.
So glad you bringing this up ! I was OTR Truck Driver at 250 lbs . I started one meal a day . Then worked my way to a 72 hr FAST . I stepped out of trucking at 220 lbs . One meal a day and a weekly long fast (24-48 ) . Does wonders . I’m now 215 lbs . Goal is 198 !! Fasting is Gods Gift . Look into the Snake Juice by Cole Robinson .
I just finished homemade red cabbage, fried taters, a nice bratwurst, and yummy stoned-ground mustard. (And a beer.). Hopefully you will truly enjoy your upcoming meal, MP. Good on you for fasting that long.
I've done loads of fasting throughout the years, water fasting and dry fasting. My longest stints were 14 days (a couple of times). All the fasts done while working full time and cooking every day for the family. It's all about willpower. Water is certainly important and if there are no distractions (like all work colleagues continually stuffing their faces) then it really isn't that hard. I would recommend that everybody gives it a go. Even just going for a day or two without sustenance. It's extremely empowering!
I was fasting twenty hours a day, for several months, to lose weight. Now I go about fifteen hours most days, just because I don't feel like eating anymore. I keep buying, and stocking up though. I know I could go days, but it's definitely something I don't want to do.
I'm starting to think there is a plot here. Slam channels like mine with bots. Make it impossible to keep up with the moderation of their posts. Then come back with a new policy "any channel that has been falsely promoted by bot activity may be deemed ineligible for advertising or even removed completely".
I used to regularly fast for 48 hours, and I even went to the gym with a buddy and kept up pace! Tip: keep your electrolytes up with a good mix. I use KCl and pink salt. Can do an epsom salt foot bath to keep magnesium levels up.
Back when I was in a working band we would be on the road and sometimes go a few days without eating but we usually had chemical assistance. Those days are long past though. I should probably give it a shot one weekend. I can't do it during the week as my job is far too physically demanding and I would be extra miserable
Fasting helps to clear out your arteries of plaque. But you have to do it reguilarly. . Your body will consume the plaque over time by consuming it. for energy. You have to fast at least 48 hours . it takes 24 hrs to empty the digestive track of food.
At some time in history some person did something for the first time ever. That person couldn't do it, then did. He managed. Some of those things weren't really intuitive or easy to figure out, but someone did. Wanting to live is a heck of a teacher.
Most cannot go through a single day without consuming something from outside their home. If u can't even pack your lunch or make coffee at home, how you think u gonna 'survive' on beans n rice for a week much less a month? Most can't even 'survive' without a microwave. Good thought provoking chat, thanks🙂
I fasted for 40 days. No joke. I drank only orange juice or tomato juice. The Lord told me to, when I was trying to save my marriage. I’m dead serious. I lost like 40 pounds. I had a couple bad days and pretty soon it was all liquid excrement, but I survived. I don’t recommend it, unless God Himself asks you to. He got me through it.
I’ve done it to around 24 hours. Main issue I have with it is the lack of energy and slower thought process. I can easily get killed at my job so I don’t go too far into the fasts. It’s a good exercise though and worth doing.
I fast but not intentionally. Sometimes I'm just not hungry. I don't know why. The problem is that people have forgotten what food is, which is fuel for our bodies. People eat because they crave certain things. Simply put, they just want to eat something for the sake of eating. If shtf, there's a lot of people, my husband included, who are going to have a real rough time going without and rationing.
Get chickens and have eggs everyday. Learn what in nature is good to eat. The world is a garden, you just have to know what to look for. I raise chickens and rabbits and grow my own food and am learning what's edible in my area. Also have about 60 extra lbs to run on for awhile so can eat straight rabbit for awhile before going into rabbit starvation. Knowledge is power people, learn all you can while you can.
To make it through college I worked full-time 3rd shift while going to school. At that time going 40 hours plus without sleep was needed. Good experiment might be to see if in a bad scenario that could be obtained to keep a family safe.
I do 16 and 18 hour fasts regularly. I do some workouts during this time, sometimes resistance, sometimes HIIT. I do this in part for the same reason you mentioned. Just to see how I feel and if I get through it. Mid-60's, male. I think it's good to test the body, the skills and run live drills in order to build and maintain skills in case we actually need them. Such as your first aid example.
@@MagicPrepper my first meal after that was a nutrient survival Southwest medley just a small easy meal and I ate like small easy meals for the next couple days but it was a total different thing the food was epic
@@MagicPrepper no problem you're welcome but a little bit more FYI watch drinking coffee that first day after you're fast because woo you'll be bouncing off the walls
I just happen to be fasting today for health reasons and I think if one stays hydrated, energy increases. It's mental and it's takes discipline. Intermittent fasting is great for your health. Good job!
I've ALWAYS told my kids (now both grown), that CAN'T is a BS word. In almost EVERY case, you CAN do X or Y. It boils down to whether you WILL or you WON'T. It's a choice.
Doctors say fasting like you’re doing every once in a while is incredibly healthy, especially for people with high cholesterol or high sugar levels. I do intermittently fast several times a week for 12 to 18 hours.
I made it to the 66 hour mark a couple years back. I worked my regular job, light physical labor, and all the other activities of daily living. I felt fine until the 63 hour mark and then felt progressively gripping anxiety until I panicked and ate. I then had an odd explosive bowl movement. That was almost 5 years ago and I haven't been willing to do it since. But I know I should.... Oh I did put salt in my water. But thats all.
Very inspirational video Magic! I have had the intent of doing a 72 hour fast for about a year now 😅 But I keep putting it off cuz it just isn’t the ”right time“ Don’t wanna be grouchy around my family, but I know I should have the experience… I also want to mention that it’s an excellent mindset to tell yourself “never say *I can’t* “ I always try to teach my kids this lesson and reinforce it. Beyond that, I started vaping nicotine last October when my beloved cat died. Pretty bummed about it but I will quit before this October 🙏🏽 After quitting nicotine, Im gonna make some time to do some starvation training.
That being said , i’ve read that starvation training is really beneficial, (WHEN DONE RESPONSIBLY AND INTELLIGENTLY) your body will initiate phagocytosis of the more damaged , weakened cells, which in turn lowers chance of cancer supposedly
I involuntary fast every month or two due to Crohn's and I've noticed a few things. First, physical labor becomes more difficult and much slower. The shelters they make on ALONE should be impressive to anyone who has tried that level of activity with no food. Second I noticed, like you, that I have much less patience for other humans. I would recommend the most charismatic in your group to try this experiment and see how well they do at holding the group together. Third, my brain feels the opposite of when I have caffeine. Trying to do anything with math sucks (especially our stupid imperial measurements based on 1/16". A centimeter measuring tape is on the shopping list).
I've been testing this for about,2 years, I've went 3 days no food and there's lots of days I eat 1 snack and 1 meal and im good. Full speed. 8 hours of work plus RU-vid around 25-30 hrs a week
Fasting is the best thing for your body and health it releases more stem cells for repair than anything you can do. During the depression Americans longevity grew more than any time. One person beat cancer by fasting it’s a positive thing to do it also accerates weight loss.
I did a 3 day, and could've kept going, but people started getting concerned. I was just fine, and I don't have an eating disorder, I just wanted to test my limits. First 24hrs sucked, after that, I kinda just forgot to eat. Day 3 was difficult, but I could've made it. The hardest part is everyone around me eating, and trying to get me to eat.
Very practical applied approach. I’m 48 and started intermittent fasting to avoid the middle age woman figure 😆 I eat within a 5 hour window and it works out great! Highly suggest doing it during SHTF if it came to that! Thanks for the food for thought 😎
Great vid… I get it 100%. Your content is top notch and I do like the straight discussions as well. Any info on binoculars would be interesting although I recognize they may fall outside the scope of your channel. Regardless, thanks for doing what you do!
5 or 6 years ago I did something similar, for the same reason; just to see if I could. I went almost 6 months eating no breakfast, 1 piece of fruit for lunch, and something small like a granola bar for dinner. I did that Monday through thursday then ate nothing on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday I would eat a small normal dinner. Once you get used to it, it's not bad. I decided to quit when my hair started falling out from malnutrition. Lol. It took a few weeks to get back to being able to eat normally though, because I would get "full" very quickly.
Im very much to eating only once, maybe twice a day at times. Ive fasted many times. Longest I've had to go without food so far in my life was about six days. I can deal without food for quite some time. Its good to realize that it takes about thirty days to starve to death, and to jot be a lil whiney b*tch when shtf and you have to ration food.
I did a 13 day and 8 day water fast before. I continued my job of delivering the mail, which included walking 5-7 miles and heavy lifting. I felt like crap till day 5, then I experienced a new energy high. It can be done. Just don't cheat. Then you'll be miserable
MP just remember the food you break the fast with is very important. Look up the 5 day fast for raising testosterone, you just have to break it with very nutritious and hearty food. You'll feel great after. A shorter fast can have the same effect if done right. Regardless, seeing how you respond with no food is important.
How? Easily. It's called becoming a Marauder. Day one, Maraudiring could yield more then 10 years of prepping i you have a plan and know what high value targets to hit.
I fast every week end from Friday to Monday. I could go much longer but dont. After 12 hours your not hungry at all as long as you drink lots of water. In fact by Monday I dont even want to eat. I fast to clean out my arteries and give my digestion a rest.
